  1. yeah, overall (recruit and transfer) they are actually the top team in Big12... #5 transfer team
  2. 2011 the only time (Tech) that another team was ever in the top 20 (#19)? ... nothing new here. Texas & OU leaving certainly wasn't going to be a recruiting boon for them.
  3. That tuition number seems to get used like our property tax rate number. Doesn't tell the whole story (or change).
  4. Dartmouth band I assume is getting in line to be next?
  5. Same was side by side 30"....hated it... Went to 43" Dell...can't go back
  6. I'll look forward to an end of season review on this. Been looking at it for my next one... I've got a Dolphin Premier and it clean great, but I hate... hate the filter cleaning aspect of it. The 600 with the top pull looks great in this regard. My Hayward AquaVac6 cleaner when it worked was awesome and had the easiest filter cleaning push and clean design, could empty and put back in less than 10 seconds, but it didn't last buy like a year (had 2 under warranty, each one died quickly of different ailments)
  7. Last report in 2022 was 0.24% was tied to criminal activity after doubling from prior year, mainly from ransomware/online scams etc. Either way, it's not going away even if we "ban" miners in the US. I don't think it's in our best interest to let other countries control the industry. If Texas wants to improve it's grid, make new miners locate in wind generation areas and profit share with ISO such that a percentage of their revenue goes directly to more renewable infrastructure and transmission build out that benefits everyone.
  8. Those tens of millions of dollars come from the Miners themselves. You don't have those millions without them. I promise you can get the same deal from your provider if you lock in tens of millions of power purchases for the year. As for "hard floor", it's more like a "larger cushion" for the grid. It they didn't exist, that "extra" generation wouldn't be scheduled. It wouldn't be available with say a cheaper coal or nuke plant ramp up. It would require paying a high priced peaker plant to jump online quickly to correct instability issues. With the miners the extra generation is scheduled in with cheapest available. In times of instability their consumption can be readily reduced and is much safer than rolling blackouts. None of this gets at issue of needing infrastructure upgrades, specifically high voltage transmission from wind areas to metros. That is going to take government help as free market economics isn't going to get anyone to step up and pay for it. There is no economic incentive for any parties in the system in adding the needed transmission lines. Could easily be done at the Texas level..but well..yeah. Feds are best bet at this point... but again don't see current state leaders taking kindly to any federal help.
  9. Short answer is because power companies are in the business of selling power and they profit off miners using their power by multiples of what they would might have to pay them to turn it off. Not paying them to turn off doesn't just fuck them, it fucks all of us. They're locked into to fixed rates for power too.
  10. Yes, and get paid to do so, just like other more traditional companies do, but mining is much easier to control. Correct. Miners rely on cheap energy. If you've got excess that would go to waste, they'll take if off your hands. It's the old story like Norway exporting all its excess hydro power in the form of aluminum since you can't store electricity (cheaply yet) so they power aluminum plants with it at near zero cost. Now as to utility of Bitcoin, yeah arguments are there for many that it doesn't produce any value. I do also personally believe it raises overall power costs slightly in the short term though, but provides a service of making the grid more stable while we bring more renewable generation online.
  11. And how much wind turbine curtailment is done each year? Or how much more would it be done without the miners. Miners would love access to more wasted energy if they could get it. As far as grid stability goes, miners are the next best thing to battery storage in being able to shed load or absorb generation instantaneously.
  12. Google Bard launched new image creation ability. It has a long way to go....
  13. Many were critical, but was just a single shareholder, holding less than $200 in stock. 🤣 (9 shares)
  14. Hat tip on the new Autograph.io Surly sponsor being none other than Tom Brady's NFT startup (co-founder).
  15. You tube and/or invite an 8yr old over. Your kid will figure it out, that's the fun of Minecraft. (he might be a couple years early though)
  16. My fourth is finishing college now so I'm on the other side of this and my advice that I would give myself if I had a do over was. Tell you kids - Pick a state school you want to go to that we can all agree we can afford - that's what mom, dad, grandma, etc can contribute and you taking out full financial aid (~21k total for four years). If you want to go out of state you need to find a situation where you will be paying that much or less on room and board and tuition. (travel and other will be above and beyond) If you cannot than it is off the table. Some schools offer tuition breaks, scholarships, whatever. Bottom line - out of state isn't worth it unless your kid is in a situation that enabled them to make it affordable (merit scholar, big scholarships, etc). Out of state is beyond ridiculous. Being in 8th grade, you have plenty of time starting now to let her know what you can/cannot do. You aren't saying "no" to out of state, but she herself is going to have to find a way to make it possible. Without "help" out of state isn't how much more it's how many times more. Being in Texas there are many great schools to choose from.
  17. Right? He's not even Tree Fiddy member, he's just mooching off the rest of us, principles be damned.
  18. If everyone is equal, why do we need any of those programs?
  19. The number would be $20k per person. Family of 4 that would be $80k for last year. Keep in mind that is just your federal amount. Keep paying you state and local too please.
  20. Yeah, just a couple years ago that could have been done in minutes, but now the government is protecting you from yourself. It'll get better again, but realistically I'm expecting that to be a decade or more. Other countries you can do all that from your phone as easy as ordering food.
  21. Anyone have HBO Max ad version? I'm on a trial and for the entire time I've watched it all month the ONLY commercial we get is a Land Rover Defender commercial. Like the same one over and over... never anything else. Easily seen it a hundred times already.
  22. Before you pay off any of the CC debt, call the companies and ask for relief, specifically lowering you interest rate. Let them know your situation and that you plan on paying off X number of cards completely, whichever have the highest rates so if they lower their rate you will keep it open and keep paying on it (and they will keep making their interest).
  23. Work at Cinnabon. Buy a car wash. Buy a commercial laundry service. Buy a chicken restaurant franchise. Something mundane.
