  1. And if a little talking to them didn't work, LBJ might just invite them to tour his home turf of Texas; maybe in a nice open air convertible. That man did not put up with shit.
  2. Not so fast my friend. Based on mostly liner increase in the Greater Austin's population from 500K in 1993 to to 2.2M I pulled a seemingly reasonable 3x frequency increase out of my, um, hat, and put the question to AI. I asked Google's AI (bard.google.com) If an event happens 3 times in 30 years and then 8 times in 10 months, and we have a null hypothesis that "the frequency of the event should be 3 times higher in the 10-month period", and an alternative hypothesis as "the frequency of the event more than three times higher in the 10-month period than in the 30-year period" and if we use a use a chi-squared test, is that statistically significant? Bottom line, the math works out and AI has confirmed Austin has a Serial Killer. Next Question for the AI: If Austin Texas had a serial killer in the Rainey Street district, what should they be called? On second thought screw that AI crap
  3. I'm an old, $10K doesn't move the needle. Make it win-a-Million or lose-a-Million and I'm in. I'd hire a shooting coach for $10K a month and do it full time. With nobody guarding you and unlimited attempts, a streak of ten isn't really that many. I'd expect any reasonably athletic guy who played some basketball to knock it out in 2 or 3 months. On the other hand, doing 10 in a row on-demand like in a 3-pt contest, would probably be beyond most people.
  4. You're not serious right? Elon may have turned into a rich douche bag, but credit where credit is due. Elon started and remains the driving force behind SpaceX. The fact that he's an ass and a troll doesn't change the fact that he understands the technical aspects of rockets and rocket engines far beyond anyone but top engineering talent. His nose has been as deep as it can get in SpaceX since Day 1. I have no problem calling him out of the dumb shit he does, and there is a lot of that, but SpaceX is a grand slam. This is a great book that reveals how far his nose is stuck into SpaceX: https://www.amazon.com/Liftoff-Desperate-Early-Launched-SpaceX/dp/0062979973

    Getting old sucks

Home Depot's got your back: My parents used to have one of those.... but they were ... old people. This is like staring into my future.
  6. Dude, what I learned growing up watching TV is it's not healthy to keep telling yourself it was 'mud' and everything is OK. Sooner of later you're going to realize it wasn't a chicken.
  7. I googled for the list of books they banned, and only found a "including these". Not sure if this is the whole list or just the highlights. Caste: The Origins of our Discontent by Isabel Wilkerson Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of an American Terrorist Group by Susan Campbell Bartoletti Spinning by Tillie Walden In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex and Sexual Health by Robie Harris My Butt is So Noisy!; I Broke My Butt!; and I Need a New Butt! by Dawn McMillan Larry the Farting Leprechaun; Gary the Goose and His Gas is on the Loose; Freddie the Farting Snowman; and Harvey the Heart Has Too Many Farts by Jane Bexley Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen by Jazz Jennings Shine; and Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by Lauren Myracle Gabi, a Girl in Pieces by Isabel Quintero Freakboy by Kristin Elizabeth Clark
  8. Sadly, I can name Home Sweet Home, because a college roommate had MTV playing almost non-stop, that f-ing song was in the highest of the high rotations. If I ever hear that song or see that video ever again, I'm liable to go all Rainey-Street-Ripper.
  9. I said "he has been fading away in influence and stature", and you say I'm not paying attention because he maxed out at 30% support. Brilliant. Before you confidently declare Trump is going to get smoked in the general, take a look at your 401k or IRA. You think Biden is secure?
  10. And before anyone says there is no way that Trump II could happen, let me remind you how funny this seemed back in 2015: If they don't get a conviction, this is gasoline on a shit fire.
  11. The last six years around Trump have been a shit show. Go fuck yourself if you're still supporting him at this point. I'm not supporting him, I wish he would exit the national stage and be gone. And to a large degree he has been fading away in influence and stature. But fuck this DA who filed the charges. He will probably NOT get a conviction out of this; this is not a fucking slam dunk. (Yes, I know who Michael Cohen is). An acquittal or dismissal of charges has the potential to re-energize and re-build Trump's base. I do NOT want Trump to get the GOP nomination and neither do you, because a fucking choice between Trump and Biden may not go the way you want it to.
  12. So why not charge him for "a litany of crimes" from "before, during, and after office."? If there is nothing more serious than what's being talked about, he'll probably beat it.
  13. If the dems had just ignored him, he probably wouldn't even get the Republican nomination. So many people have moved on. Fuck. Hush money to a stripper? That's the primary charge that's being talked about? Not embezzlement of US funds, not treason, not any great crime empire? Business shenanigans related to an affair? They better have more than that when they unseal the charges or this going to backfire. Before you scream that that it can't backfire and he's done, remember back to 2015. You probably through he would never win, and you probably didn't know anyone who voted for him. But he did win. If he beats these charges, this validates any kind bat-shit they're-out-to-get-me story that they want to make up. If they don't get a solid and swift conviction, (and unless the charges have some bombshells, they probably won't get either) this is going to be a fucking shitshow.
  14. Not only do I bring a gun to my office, I even have a wall safe in my office for the gun. Why yes, I do work from home.
  15. I rarely carry, but I have a valid Texas License to Carry. Like other upthread, when I do carry, it's concealed and it stays that way. Open carry is just asking to be hassled by store owners, cops, or worse, by someone who misinterprets your intentions and feels threatened themselves. I really don't want to get shot by some store owner who thought he was being robbed. I don't ever intend to pull it out and wave it around either. I'll leave it to the cops to drawn their guns and start yelling "down on the ground". I don't have any backup. Drawing my gun is a last resort and if it has to come out, it probably comes out hot. When I, (and probably most people), first got a carry permit I really thought about "could I really shoot person". To protect my wife, kids, or my life, yeah, I could. But if I'm being robbed by a junkie at knifepoint, or someone's stealing my car, screw that, the gun stays concealed.
  16. Bond was a badass until Bourne came along. Bourne was a badass until Wick came along. You're bringing a jump-cut to a gun fight.
  17. She got up, but she didn't go back at the dude. That's a hard way to learn a lesson, but it looks like she did learn.
  18. Not the way I was expecting the fire extinguisher to be used...but probably more effective.
  19. Welp, looks like I need to create a sock account on ChatGPT to ask other types of questions.
  20. I've been playing with Chat GPT at work to see how well it writes code. Holy Fuck it's good. If it stays free, it's going to kill a huge number of programmer jobs. I'm 30+ years into my career and do higher level Software Architecture and Rapid Prototyping type stuff. Often I'd have a one or more young to mid-level programmers that I'd pull in to fill out more code. For a ton of stuff, I can describe what's needed without using anything company confidential, so I've been asking Chat GPT to write small blocks of code instead if writing things up and asking a minion. In seconds Chat-GPT gives you want you want. It's two steps better than StackOverflow. If you have a son, daughter, niece, nephew, getting a programmer degree, stress to them they need to lean into this shit and learn to A) ask better questions of AI, and B) get good at integrating the answers into a bigger sections of code.
  21. I was thinking "Wow, Wes Anderson actually did something different for a change. Good for him"

    Getting old sucks

If I get one more notice from AARP to join, I'm going to sue them for harassment and emotional damage. I'm only 56. Also, where did all my muscle mass go? I don't want to be that old guy at the gym who's curling 2-lb dumb bells, but I'm heading that direction.
