  1. After a week of checking all local Pharmacies and never seeing any available appointments, I finally checked the APH site on Monday morning and set an appointment for Tuesday Morning at the Delco Center. While I absolutely think the city of Austin is screwed up in a million ways, I will give them Props for running this smoothly. I was directed to a parking spot, where to get in line, and then the line barely stopped moving...It was Chick-fil-a efficient. I also liked the fact that the CDC vSafe program is A) optional and B) website based and not an App that needs to be installed. I think I saw that only about 17% of people who get the vaccines are doing the vSafe program....low, but still more than enough to 'see' a problem.
  2. Strange. Based on poll results, it would seem Surly isn't big in the UK or in China... Who knew.
  3. The song remains the same. Late last year the BCS Half Marathon was the only Race pressing hard to still be held; when it canceled in Oct or Nov, I just stopped training and gave up....Not until a couple weeks ago did I really think any races would actually be run in person. My motivation is coming back but I'm way overweight..... No way I could do the Austin Half, so the "Too Hot To Handle Half" in Dallas in July is my target..... If anyone know a shortcut to drop about 20 lbs, I'm all ears.
  4. Thank you Shaka Smart.. ...for leaving and letting us move on.
  5. I haven't been following this story that closely. The above usatoday link seems to be about the LSU administration, and not so much about Les Miles or the Athletic department. Have the accusations against Miles been upgrade to the go-to-jail type stuff (rape / sexual assault / baylor) or are they in the should-have-been-fired immediately type stuff (chasing undergrads)? The article from the Orlando Sentinel is kind a vague with the money quote being ‘You know what you did to me.’”
  6. Most of those MAC guys are making $600-800K. Les was making $2.8M 3 years at 2.5M = 7.5 Million dollars. They'd be crazy not to take that. Throw in a "don't molest the co-eds" clause and you should be able to make it a four year deal. And it's not like the expectations are all that high. Don't win many conference games? No big deal, neither did the previous guy or the guy before him...
  7. That's from Knicks vs Piston in '82, right?
  8. Back in the day, Fry's was one of the greatest stores on earth. In the dark days before the world wide web, long before amazon, the go-to place had been RadioShack or odd-balls stores like Weird Stuff Warehouse. Fry's was a game changer. Fry's was to RadioShack like HEB is to <insert_any_grocer> But all good things must end. Fry's stopped being relevant when the were slow to move online...from that point it was only a mater of time. That time is today. RIP
  9. I could survive 2 weeks drinking melted snow, but why would I want to. A hour in a crowded HEB and I'm all set for the week. In the off chance that this weather causes a small supply-chain hic-up, I'm still a happy camper. I'm pretty sure that extra bag of Doritos, Salsa, Soda and TP are all going to get consumed used..
  10. I've lived in my current house in Pflugerville for about 5 years and I never realized how drafty the front and back doors are. This evening I walked around and checked all the windows and doors to make sure everything was closed tightly. Holy crap, the cold air just goes right around the weather stripping on the doors. I ended up putting a strip of masking tape around the doors. I live in Austin so I don't have to deal with this kind of weather. I'll take 105° days any day.
  11. I've seen bigger(and probably better armed) convoys of SUVs leaving most Texas Highschool football games.
  12. Didn't watch the game, just looked at the box scores. I had hoped Sam would impress. Its looking like the NFL isn't going to be in his future. What's up with Mond being mvp? Was there just no one else that stood out? In the a&m games I've seen the last few years he seemed like just a run-of-the-mill game manager.
  13. As immamac says above, the correct answer is: we don't yet know. Phase 3 trials have a large number of people (40,000 in the J+J trial). In the Modera and Pfizer trials, after you got your 2nd shot, you would get periodic phone calls asking if you had symptoms. This isn't going to catch people who got Covid-19, were asymptomatic, and their body fought it off (with the help of the vaccine). In order to see if it the vaccines prevent you from ever catching it and shedding the virus, they would have to do constant monitoring. Eventually someone will probably do that, but it doesn't scale for a phase 3 trial in a pandemic. The downside of not knowing is that even if you are vaccinated, it's still not safe to be around olds who haven't been vaccinated.
  14. Paraphrasing from the video: What impact will this have? Nothing. ...except the part where the guy who made the video dies in jail...
  15. I'd go with four Red bulls, a NOS, and a Monster. I'd either have a stroke before they had a chance to inject me, or that shit would counteract their sedative. Stop my heart? Oh, I don't think so.
  16. Went on a family camping trip 15 years back and took an unopened 750ml bottle of vodka. We had lots of OJ, so I started doing screwdrivers around 3 PM and finished the bottle around 10 PM. I was surprisingly functional that evening, but felt like crap the next day. The older I get, the less I can handle heavy drinking. No way I could do that today.
  17. If out next OC is Danny Langsdorf, who took over for Beck as OC at Nebraska and failed, I'll start the Fire Sark thread. Currently Langsdorf is QB coach at Colorado. He must be a 'quality' coach since he just coached up the 2nd team All-Pac 12 QB. We all know how impressive that guy is.
  18. Can you spread the virus after getting the Covid-19 Vaccine? We don't know because that wasn't what the Phase 3 trails were looking for and nobody has had the time to do a study on that yet. The published data to date for the Moderna Phase 3 Study showing 94.1% effectiveness was only looking for people who developed symptoms. After getting the 2nd dose, someone would call and check on the test subjects every week or so to ask about symptoms. We know from the published results that 11 people who got the vaccine in the trial did get symptoms and test positive for Covid-19, but none were serious. This is far different from the placebo group that had 185 positives and 30 serious cases. From the results of the trial, it can be concluded that the Moderna Vaccine: prevented most people from having Covid-19 symptoms and completely prevented serious cases What is unknown is how many people in the study became asymptotic positives. Maybe none, or maybe a lot of people got really mild (asymptomatic) cases of Covid-19 for a short period. We just don't know, because they study wasn't doing constant viral load testing....that would be really hard on a huge trial. https://www.fredhutch.org/en/news/center-news/2020/12/covid-19-vaccines-transmission.html Since we don't know, the sound advice is to continue to wear a mask, for the benefit of others.
  19. Until I see who is on the coaching staff, it's really hard to guess. This same poll in 2 weeks may get different results. When Strong named Shawn Watson, who failed as an OC at Nebraska, as OC is was a huge read-flag. When Herman named Tim Beck, who replace Watson as OC at Nebraska and also failed, as OC it was also a red flag. Let's see what Sark does in one of his first really big moves.
  20. As someone upthread said, I think you intended to type "..not in uncharted territory..." I'm not sure what "3 or 4 vaccines" you are referring to, but mRNA technology has never been approved for a drug or vaccine before these two Covid-19 ones. Any data that was published would have been for a something that never made it out of trials. Where long term studies done on any of those trial drugs?
  21. After doing stuff all morning, I turn on the IU game and see a scroll on the bottom that we fired Herman. I.Did.Not.Expect.That. It's not clear that we have a plan. Did we leap before we looked who was available?
  22. Getting drunk earlier I guess. It's New Years Eve on a terrible year, I guess that's cool. But your takes may not seem so well thought out when you're sober.
  23. This feels like the Aggie Rollercoaster of Hype. Without a doubt Casey had a great game... ...but he came in in the 2nd half with a lead against a crap team that was overmatched, that didn't scheme against him and with a RB that was averaging 18 yards a pop. Did he play great? Yes. Did he show a lot of potential? Absolutely. Should we be excited? Hell Yeah. Comparing him to VY (or even Spenser Rattler who has a full year under his belt and a QB Whisper for a Coach) seems a bit premature. Let's see if he can have that type of performance against TCU, ISU or OU. We have to also remember that it's going to be the same coaching staff that doesn't seem to develop or use talent very well. Until Herman is gone, I don't believe Casey or anyone else can lead us to the promised land
  24. Before we start planning for the National Championship next year, we have to remember that we're playing a Pac-12 school. We looked like world beaters after the UTEP game as well.
  25. Bijan is averaging 18 yards a carry. GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL.
