  1. For those looking the cheaper route Cuero has their new lineup in stock. Price online is 76.50 which seems insane to me. But ill grab another pair or two as they have added some colors.

Looks like the old colors are all still out of stock but the new square toe and the new colors are all incredibly cheap.
UPDATE: It appears something is still up with the website as you can't actually buy the boots. There is an error when selecting the shipping method.

$76.50 for boots was too good to be true

Site appears to be working now. Add $100 to that price.
  2. Interesting. I'm not a train guy, but what do you think those people who take the train will be doing if they aren't on the train? Also, walk me through what's in this "bus enhancement project". You realize that the street grid is inherently broken and unfixable, right?

Cap Metro could have offered the same proposal for BRT with dedicated lanes and job downtown tunnel for half the cost of the current proposal.

  3. Old thread but this is probably the place for it.  We went with Coyote so I will let you all know in a year or two if I'm an idiot, but the price was right.
My outdoor kitchen is starting to go in on Wednesday and will provide pics when complete.  Went with large austin chopped stone for facade and a dark soapstone for counter.  Putting in a grill and refrigerator and left room in the middle for a sink but not sure if I will ever put that in or not because of how close it is to our indoor kitchen.

Have an outdoor sink. Didn’t build it. If you put one in make sure you think through how to insulate the piles and/or how to cut off the water in the winter. Otherwise yours will be a giant pain in the ass just like mine.

  4. Most carriers are offering upgrade deals for new or existing customers. T-Mobile is varying based on the age of your trade in. I’m sure they are subsidizing; from their standpoint they are locking you in for 30 months since they are giving you a billing credit. That’s why you can get more from them than Apple.

Update on this since I just finished the t-Mobile process. They “trade” value for my Xr was $211 of the $415 total upgrade discount. My daughter’s 7 was only valued at $55 for trade but received a $300 credit. Honestly wouldn’t have pulled the trigger on the Trades just for that amount but received an additional $200/line as a 15 yr+ customer. So my effective price is $384 for my 128 gb 12 pro and $379 for her 128 gb 12. Catch is to get the full amount have to agree to 30 months of bill credits.

  5. I saw this mentioned on slickdeals but I can’t figure out how it works. The Apple website has an area to calculate trade-in value based on your phone model and provider and it says $140 for an iPhone 8 on ATT. How do you get the higher trade-in value?

  6. Had a decent haul this week. Stocking up the essentials and trying something new on a friend’s recommendation.

JW Dant is an under appreciated bottom shelf bottle.

  7. I'd like to see what happens with the new train stop at the convention center (when is that being delivered again?)...and also with the expanded shitshow at Republic Square Park?
It's deeply connected to the homeless issue and is not being addressed.  I've seen some shit at several bus and train stations that would make me think about never taking an expanded line, nor letting my family do so.  I don't mind somebody asking for spare change.  I'm talking about wildly open needle use, squat 'n shits, people fucked up beyond belief on drugs and alcohol, handjobs for cash.  And on top of that, I missed my bus home from South Austin's mom's house.

My firm looked at some new office space that had the benefit of being walking distance from a major transit center. We passed because we didn’t feel it would be safe for our staff to walk past the tent city and related shitstorm between the transit center and the office.

  8. https://www.capmetro.org/ridership-stats/

you can research the ride numbers here. Metro rail usage is almost non existent. Would have been way cheaper to buy more busses and use those millions for road improvements  - not bike lanes.

That’s what Houston did in the 1990s. They started a BRT system that is actually used by the community. Last year they passed a regional bond to expand their BRT. For about the same total dollars they are building a system that will serve a community 10 times the size of ours because they went with BRT not LRT and aren’t building a tunnel as a vanity project.

  9. Prop A is not a bond so there isn't any borrowed money or interest. It's more Pay as you go. The first few years will be spent on design and engineering which will allow the fund to build up money to pay for the actual construction. Then you have the project like the Green Line which aren't even scheduled for work until after light rail opens when the money will be available. The cheaper improvements are scheduled 1st like Red line improvements and the Bus Rapid routes, park and rides etc.

This is a really good plan IF you like mass transit. If you don't then vote against it but anyone who says the plan is not right for X reason is full of shit or lying. The best comparison I have is Seattle's light rail. They also have a tunnel in downtown that helps the system tremendously by avoiding clusters, not taking away lanes for buses, and allowing the trains to be extended in the future which we could not do at street level due to the shorter length of our downtown blocks.

You highlight the Green Line, which is an excellent example of the problem with Prop A. That line serves eastern Travis County. 80%+ of the ridership will be from outside city of Austin. Why are Austin taxpayers paying for these improvements?
  10. I was throwing dirt on Maker’s until I tried Private Select. It really changed my mind about the brand. I don’t like 46 or the original. I’ll be hunting for 101 and the Limited Editions.

Concur. Never a fan of the original but Private Select is delicious.
  11. How can those gomers claim research for a state agency like the forest service? Do they even have any students ? What is next trying to claim pot holes filled by TXDOT?

Actually they do. The research budget for the TX Transportation Institute is 90% or better funded by TxDOT. And if TxDOT ever tries to steer money elsewhere the Aggys in the Legislature step in.
