Wasn't part of the problem with using the portal last year was our appearance in the playoffs made us enter the portal late? Could we have picked up portal help without some of our guys going into the portal to keep the overall scholarship numbers in line? Maybe they knew they had needs, but by the time they got in the portal game, there was no one left other than JAGs pretty much the same quality as what we already had? The idea that they couldn't develop these OL better (Neto, etc) is more a concern for me than who we did or did not pick up. Or is the development available but the talent level we've been recruiting has been suspect?

The TDP has no hand in who runs or who doesn't. There are no endorsements or a slate put together before the primaries. However the Republicans of Texas do manipulate their elections and make endorsements. Where the Democrats intervene comes out of DC, not so much in written or spoken endorsements, but in funds provided to their accounts. I have a hard time thinking that the staid OG DNC led by Schumer and Jeffries have tapped Crockett. I'd more likely imagine they are withholding money in the Texas Senate Race until after the winner of the primary comes forward. Michelle Davis of LoneStarLeft wrote a pretty good piece on several things to consider if Crockett decided to run, and the biggest takeaway is she will bring out the voters who want to vote against her. She is basically another version of AOC and we know how the Trumpkins hate her and would show up in droves to vote against her. Same with Crockett. But on the other hand with Allred laying out now, the race really comes down to Talarico and Crockett. My biggest hope is that Talarico wins a tight primary and the Trump haters decide that their vote won't be needed against Talarico, so they stay home. I would have no problem with either of them winning, but it will come down to who is most electable. And either way we have at least one, maybe two good leaders won't be in office when we need it most. But change is needed, so let's ride. Please just remember that the TDP isn't building benches or choosing candidates other than encouraging good people to run. Unfortunately we can't discourage anyone from running either. That is left up to PACs and other well funded donors. TDP's job is to insure fair elections, to register voters and get them to turn out. Sometimes that GOTV effort is a text, or a phone call, or an event, with or without candidates in attendance/participation.

There's a lot to be said for this. People won't come out since Trump's not on the ticket, but now you have a villain on the ticket with our own Texas born and raised AOC. It doesn't matter what stripe of Dem she is, liberal or moderate or somewhere in the middle, she's a Dem, that's enough reason to get out and vote against her. That could affect the whole ticket up and down. I don't see it as rage, but as controlled anger towards those who change his religion for their benefit into something unrecognizable to a good many Christians. While he's not exactly blue collar, his background is teaching, so that's working man territory too. The actual party in Texas is slowly moving away from the OG towards the progressive. I would probably put our numbers at 30% OG, 15% liberal and 55% progressive. Many like myself see progressive as more like a "how would FDR battle this" movement. So far the word hasn't been redefined like liberal, socialism, etc. Yes, not only Talarico's but also several in the TDP, in particular Scudder the new state chair finishes with it in every stump speech he does. He also ties that to the progressive movement. Here's a pretty good podcast on where most progressive Texans feel they stand on the larger issues. https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/progresstexas/episodes/In-Progress-What-Does-It-Mean-To-Be-A-Progressive-e3bave9/a-acapc1j

Two episodes into The Abandons. It's a good time waster, but other than that, it doesn't have any real chops. Decent acting, but the message is rather trite. Train Dreams was better when it came to getting into your head and making you feel and think. I'll probably finish it, but if something else pops up in the meantime, it won't be hard to persuade me to watch something that looks more promising.

Honestly, what is the difference between Santa and Christ? Both require faith to keep them real in most minds, and the naughty or nice list is basically a scoreboard of how you are doing on the Love Thy Neighbor instruction. Why is Santa child's play while Jesus is so many adults guide to the proper afterlife? Why do we say it's good to tell a kid Santa isn't real, but you get burned at the stake if you try to tell a kid that Jesus is a myth too?

It's basically the same thing they already ruled against when they heard the Louisiana redistricting case.

The question is will Abbott and Co. follow this order, or go ahead and appeal it to the Supreme Court, meaning there is going to be some waiting period that leads to questions about which map to use. Betting they force 2026 upon us claiming they had to do something since as far as they are concerned it's still legal until the SC says it is not. On the other hand, after the way the votes fell in the rest of the country earlier this month, they might want to retreat from that plan that made many of their new districts stretched pretty thin, margin wise.

The Diplomat (Netflix) - Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell

While Russell has a decent body for her age (mainly legs, small boobs) her face has never struck me as overly attractive. It's pretty interesting how every male in the cast wants to bone her, has boned her or is next in line. Seems there would be easier affairs to have with more attractive ladies than the ambassador/Second Lady with all the security and paparazzi buzzing around her 24/7. I also had a problem watching Dennison without expecting him to hobble around on goat hooves like he did in Carnival Row. Bradley Whitford is always good on something with a political center to it. He was great in West Wing and when I see him in show like this, I think it brings some of the enjoyment of West Wing to whatever other show he is in. -

The only thing the affiliation does is entitle you to go to the convention as a delegate or run for/be appointed to a county or precinct chair. If you voted in the Republican primary you can't do those things. If you didn't vote in either primary you can do those things if you sign an oath of loyalty or affiliation to the party. The Republicans are trying to change that to where you actually have to be a card carrying R to vote red. Supposedly they are concerned about people cross voting to elect the worst candidates in primaries. Most people don't. Most of them start out as republican congresscritters. Not sure why the Dems are like that, unless that shit just rubs off somehow. Or more likely they keep listening to their sage political consultants. Along those lines of vunerability, I think the air traffic thing with Thanksgiving coming up would have forced the hands of the Rs moreso than SNAP. I think another week would have broke them. -
