  1. The Hill was a good story, but done in that cheap Hallmark sappish kind of way. But the story was good enough to warrant sitting through the poor production. A story about a kid from Texas who fights off a lot of disabilities to make it to the Majors. Just don't expect Brenham to look like Brenham.
  2. Say what you will about Sarah, but she's been a bulldog after the O&G industry on abandoned wells, saltwater mishandling, pipeline leaks and other negative environmental issues.
  3. Well, we are where we are now with our primaries set. Allred leads in funds collected, but Gutierrez is working the campaign trail hard and gaining recognition and support every day. I have met 6 of the 9 candidates, and Allred isn't one of them. I'll just say he hasn't been as available as most of the others. I really admire those I have met and all would be a step up from Cruz, but to be practical it will come down to a runoff between Allred and Gutierrez. Gutierrez reminds me of Beto with a personality. He is humble and available and speaks with a genuineness that Beto seemed to lack. Allred is running a Hegar type campaign it seems. Maybe it will pick up, but I think he is saving his treasure chest for the runoff, and then the general. I really suggest you get out to see Roland when he gets into your neck of the woods. He's a good speaker. I feel he and Talarico are two of the best rising stars on the Texas Dem bench presently. Watch for the debates. There is one hosted by the PAC134 already online. PAC 134 Texas Dem Senator debate Most senate hopefuls made it, but Allred and Gonzalez both missed. There is one coming up sponsored by the AFL CIO, and it will be streamed on their Facebook page.
  4. Here is the link to his Plan Alamo. Dead solid perfect fascist. He's justifying all this by predicting that the Texas border will be invaded by armed masses of immigrants, organized in some sort of Pancho Villa uprising, I suppose. https://commanderfurman.com/plan-alamo/
  5. And it's doubtful we will in the future, due to all the legislators who have roots in A&M.
  6. Hebrew Hilton, right across from NoMan Hall
  7. Guess if they included the money they had to raise to make Jimbo's payoff down payment, it might be close. That was the veer Bowden taught them.
  8. Looks familiar.
  9. You can't get more rural than this without getting into west Texas. Something along these lines is coming. There are distance learning companies already with the curriculum. They just need a network of "proctors" throughout Texas to make these pods work.
  10. No first those brown students are needed to help the athletics teams get to district or beyond, then they can disappear into the woodwork once their eligibility runs out.
  11. I agree that's a big part of it, my brother is a member of one of these type churches. But I think part of it is the rural churches feeling less important than their urban and suburban counterparts. Lots of little churches in Possum Piss have reverted back to circuit riders of the past, partly because they can't afford a pastor dedicated to solely their church anymore. It's all tied together with the deterioration of the rural communities. The Pentecostals are just a magnet for the MAGA/Misogynistic crowd. Big into patriarchy and keeping the women barefoot in the kitchen. Probably also strong white supremacy stuff taught there too.
  12. Something interesting in Possum Piss is the decline of the denominational churches (Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian) and the rise of Cowboy churches. The Pentecostals (at least in east Texas) are one of the very few denominations growing. How many of you have seen Branded for Jesus Church north of Huntsville on 45? No real theory here, just an observation.
  13. necro bump to report the latest stats: Does NIL calculate into this? https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/texas-reported-athletic-department-revenue-of-271-million-in-2023-a-record-for-ncaa-schools/ar-AA1n8edW?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=9caa743365d7431face7721b704d190c&ei=67#:~:text=Follow-,Texas reported athletic department revenue of %24271 million in 2023%2C a record for NCAA schools,-Story by Steve Texas reported athletic department revenue of $271 million in 2023, a record for NCAA schools The University of Texas athletics program – always among the nation’s most financially powerful – again has gone to another level: It had just over $271 million in operating revenue during its 2023 fiscal year, according to its new annual revenue-and-expenses report to the NCAA. The report, which USA TODAY obtained the report Wednesday through an open-records request in partnership with the Knight-Newhouse Data project at Syracuse University, means that Texas increased its revenue by nearly $32 million over the total it reported for 2022. For now, the new total stands as the largest single-year total since the NCAA began its current financial reporting system in 2005. Ohio State reported $251.6 million in 2022. (Oregon reported $391.8 million in 2020, but that included more than $270 million as a contribution for the renovation of its track and field stadium.) By category, Texas’ largest year-over-year increases were: -- $11 million in contributions, which rose to nearly $86 million. -- $10.2 million in money from sponsorships, licensing, royalties and advertising, which totaled $54.7 million. -- $5.7 million in ticket sales, which moved to $63.3 million. Schools had to provide their 2023 reports to the NCAA by Monday, and, so far, only a few schools have released them. Penn State, LSU and Tennessee all have reported exceeding $200 million for the first time – but those totals trailed Texas’ by about $70 million. Texas will be joining LSU and Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference this summer. Kansas State, which currently is in the Big 12 Conference with Texas, has reported $102.3 million in revenue for 2023.
  14. I think it's funny that national media still uses Jimbo as the face of A&M football.
  15. But control everything. I posted about Yass in the Abbott thread and I've always wondered the marginal pleasure gained from making money after you've made your first billion. But then I look at Soros v. Yass and think financial titans who duke it out like gods on Olympus fighting over helping humankind or using them for entertainment purpose. Much as in the brothers in Trading Places. Soros is demonized, but why isn't Yass? I think of the Pace picante sauce commercials from decades back "New York City?!?!" How dare Yankees pretend to know anything about hot sauce? But Abbott can take $$ from some guy in Penn, because he knows what's best for Texas schoolchildren? But then we live in a time when the Texas Roadhouse originated in Indiana.
  16. The Dems need to call out this Yass fellow like they do Soros. They are both Jewish billionaires who donate heavily to political entities. One on the right, one on the left. Politics do make strange bedfellows, but you have to wonder how many of Abbott's staunch supporters would appreciate his taking funding of this size from some guy in Pennsylvania.
  17. I can't think of the last AD or head coach from A&M being poached for what seems to be a upward move. Other than the tennis coach who UT went after?
  18. I still think that if CDC and Beard would have worked out a compromise that would have given time for things to settle, for Beard and everyone involved to go through some counseling, then Texas could have come out looking alright for having tried, instead of just ducking out entirely. Treat it like a Second Chance U sort of thing. This shit goes on all the time in so many different ways in all levels of all sports. And all is forgiven (or never spoken of), like in the case of Tyreek Hill and Joe Mixon. Texas could have said, we're not going to kick this can into someone else's backyard, we're going to try to help this man improve his life, and we'll stick by him until he proves he is incapable of doing the work.
  19. What a clown show. You have to wonder what promises are made, or pictures painted to these potential hires that turn out to be shit. Wesley McGriff Reverses Course, Leaves Texas A&M Wesley McGriff Reverses Course, Leaves Texas A&M (msn.com)
  20. Only the finest kind of people.
  21. This advantage is one reason why I don't fear losing Sark to Bama. He's knows future UT has more recruiting and portal offerings for kids than Bama. So assuming that football at Bama starts wondering the wilderness like we did for over a decade, will that affect their overall NIL package that feeds the other sports too?
  22. I think that a branch of the Rockefellers tied into piggy long ago with the WinRock Enterprises set up initially by Winthrop Rockefeller, 37th governor of Arkansas. Winrock International - Wikipedia Probably some deep seated animosity there between the upstart Waltons and old UA money? You read what all Winrock is into now days, and it's fairly the opposite of what the Waltons do. About Winrock - Winrock International But then I despise the Waltons, so I could be biased in this assumption.
