  1. Patria is a pretty good documentary on Mexico in the years of the Republican Rebellion under Juarez.
  2. Yeah, the writing could be better. It's pretty formulaic and predictable.
  3. As an honorable mention: Marty Akins wasn't a slouch coming out of HS. But then he played at Gregory Portland, which at the time was like 2 students below the break between 3A and 4A. Most of the schools in that 3A district were much smaller than the G-P behemoth. In short, not sure if his stats were padded by having lesser competition. They seldom went very deep in state playoffs. That could be a south Texas thing, so I figure that really wasn't much his fault. Either way, he was a stellar athlete, not only in rushing and passing, but also kicking. And he lettered in track at UT as well.
  4. I would hope Jimbo, or any coach, would never do that. However, we had a kid at the high school where I teach (he'd been in my 9th grade geography class) who had committed to USCw when Spurrier was there. They called the morning of signing day and yanked his offer. a) so if they are a "good" program, then what is mediocre? b) Truly surprised there isn't a E Turner Gill section in Kyle for the overflow of talent willing to forego scholarship money elsewhere in order to stand in reserve. I honestly think such a section would be full of wannabes who later in life would brag about being an aggy athlete (in waiting). geography is hard on an aggy It's the oversized cartoonish stripes that catch my eye every time.
  5. So my son is headed to Calgary to see his mother for the first time since Covid started. I understand the day before testing requirements for returning, but I can't find any clear answer to the question of what happens to his ticket if he were to test positive. He can cancel at least 2 days before the flight with no penalty, but with the new requirements he could be past that cut off date before he finds out he can't fly. As an exercise in helping him unravel red tape, I let him do the chatting with the American Airline rep online. The answer is he should get a refund, according to his endorsement? There was no straight answer like yes, you get a full or partial refund, or can reschedule that flight. It's so screwy. Anybody have any insight into this? At present, we are on course to just roll the die and see what turns up.
  6. Notice how they left aggy off that list of institutions with high academics? Must have been a mistake, right?
  7. Alright. I'm a dumbass. Thought I saw someone say he could come back because of Covid.
  8. This seems unexpected, considering how hard he went in that last game. Was hoping to see him play a full year with more talent surrounding him.
  9. Stupid question, but do JUCO transfers go through the portal? It's for every level of collegiate level athletes? Helobious' comments about the UIW QB got me to wondering. Also let's say the institution they are transferring out of gets horsey and tells profs to tank the kid's grades, how would that play in whether they are allowed in or not? I assume things like this can be challenged through the NCAA, or they can be enrolled on some sort of probation?
  10. I know this isn't tied to any type of anniversary, but I watched Radium Girls tonight. Worth the watch for the working class angle.
  11. Probably just me, but aggy has regressed from being the most despised to more the local buffoon that is really no threat. On the other hand Baylor fans have assumed the mantle of being most despised and hated in my book. It's not that they win. I can live with that. It's their attitude about it, like God entitled them to win, and rape, apparently. That and the high price tag of going to BU makes them the really chosen people of the world. To me they are just a smaller, viler Notre Dame. Thank you for indulging me.
  12. The one you met at Carl's Jr? Jimbo mentioned to some group of reporters earlier this week that aggy wasn't interested in Ewers, they were solid in their latest recruited golden boy. Which I interpreted as "Ewers won't return my calls."
  13. Looks like more initiatives coming out of the kitchen for more sports as well? Or will this be football related only? I think it would be a great way to get some exposure for some of our other athletes as well, draw some attention to other sports?
  14. I'd like Omiere to come back strong as well.
  15. Time is a flat circle, right?
  16. venn careers.mp4
  17. Got it. You were sarcasming us. Nicely done.
  18. In spite of your post numbers, I have to believe this is your first foray into the basketball forum? Like ever?
  19. Jordan and his folks Chad and Rhonda are very hospitable and friendly. If you can get Jordan to talk about some of the collections he has amassed over the years, particularly the vintage decorations, it's pretty interesting.
  20. Go out past Oak Hill and check out the Maywald display. All their donations go to Make a Wish. They won the Great American Christmas Light Shoot Out year before last. https://maywaldchristmasdisplay.weebly.com/
  21. My son is taking an online math class at Sam and some of the probabilities problems are giving him issues. This is not my forte and it's due tonight. He's done about 16 so far, but still has two left. Any help would be much appreciated. I am going to post screenshots of the problems, so you can see exactly how the problems are worded. The first one on the lottery I asked him if he could work it backwards using the formula he used to get the -$4.99, but the question is what are they after for fair game? break even? Set the value to $0 or $5.00? Here's the second one. Maybe we have looked at it too long. I mean it's possible that no hands in any one deal would have two hearts and two clubs. And actually the question should read "contain" exactly, not "consist". No 7 card hand can consist solely of 4 cards. It can contain specific types of cards and still be 7 cards. Probably reading too much into it. Thanks folks.
  22. I think what she did by playing that voice mail was a good response. However I bet the house that someone will claim that that was scripted and staged, that it wasn't authentic. But each of these little things keeps adding up, and more and more people are getting fed up. I never sent any monetary support to a campaign before the Beto senate run. And I sure never sent any out of state, but I have now and others here are contributing likewise. So people are getting tired of their idiocy and beginning to understand that races all over the country can affect the bottom line, particularly thanks to Joe and Krysten. I don't know the answer other than say that is false, here is why it's false and then start talking about how a legislator has responsibility to their constituents that goes beyond being a blowhard ineffective mouthpiece. Anyone can do that, and if her constituents are happy with the fact that all she does is talk tough but not only isn't delivering, but is actually making her district a pariah for sending someone like her. Of course they wouldn't understand it, and it would just make them double down, pride and all. But he is right as far as not getting in the slop with them, they and their stans are comfortable there. Maybe put together a montage of her using the same jokes several times and bring into doubt that it ever actually happened. And if she just makes this stuff up, what else does she make up for a vote or a laugh? I'm not a big Carville fan either, but he has part of the answer, but not all of it here.
  23. Silly me. I was expecting something like this:
