  1. Well, that should do it. This team isn't getting past the Chiefs this year.
  2. 0/4 on the Greg Davis special
  3. Yikes, such a shame to lose Tank to a dumb play like that. I don't think either receiver realized they were both going for the ball. Get well soon Tank.
  4. Oh no, they paid 6.4 million in taxes last year! How could any billionaire afford such surcharges?!?!
  5. Walker is a good pickup, can't be upset about that. Still need some OFs though. Anyone know how much room they have to spend on more guys?
  6. Even better get rid of aprons, get rid of trade restrictions, make a solid hard cap number. Allow trades that don't match salary at all, like Giannis for Wemby. Let teams determine the value of players rather than their contract terms. The league would be a lot better off, as teams could build or reset faster.
  7. Could the Astros trade Montero, send him with cash to cover his cost, and remove him from their luxury tax calculation? There are plenty of teams that never get close to the tax line that could take him for cheap.
  8. Some interesting info on the Arenado deal that didn't happen. It states the Cardinals would take on 5m per year for 3 years, bringing the cost down to ~15m per year. I would guess the Cardinals would take on more if the right prospect was included in the deal, but it won't matter if he won't waive the NTC for them. If they were pursuing the Arenado deal, then there probably is no hope for Bregman coming back. I don't think they make that trade offer until they know they are out of the Bregman sweepstakes. It would be nice to get at least one of them and slide Paredes over to 1st to shore up the infield, then go get an OF like Santander, but I don't think that's going to happen. This will be an above average team next year, but not a real contender as is. Need a few more bats to really make it happen. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/nolan-arenado-has-reportedly-blocked-trade-to-astros.html
  9. I apparently missed the memo on the new Allstar game format, not that I really care about that game, but I do prefer the traditional East/West game like it was when I was a kid. I predict this mini-tournament is going to be really dumb. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/43046474/kevin-durant-rips-new-nba-all-star-game-format-hate-it
  10. This NBA cup thing really screws up these 2 weeks of play with the games being limited. I picked up a Bucks guy for the championship today, but I see now that game doesn't count for fantasy purposes for some reason. Live and learn. League update: we are nearly at the halfway point through the season now. You play everyone twice before the playoffs, and right now it looks like Derka and I are on a collision course for the championship. If I hadn't fumbled my first week against him, I would probably be in the lead right now. However, the top 4 teams make the playoffs and play each other for 2 weeks, so anything can happen. Almost everyone can still make a top 4 seed with some luck and a bit of work.
  11. Yeah, that's what I was referencing. They have about a +2 net rating as a team, while their starters are at +16.9. Losing by 14 points for about 15 minutes a game is a tough hole to dig out of every night.
  12. Last year a few of Boras' clients waited a long time for big money, it never came, teams moved on, and those guys had to take relatively short term deals instead to "prove it" again. Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery were the two big ones that didn't get what they wanted. Snell got big money from the Dodgers this year after having a good second half of the season, while Jordan may never see a contract anywhere near what he was offered last off-season. Bellinger also did a short deal with opt outs, while he was projected to get a 150-200m+ deal and got 3/80 instead. It's a gamble for Bregman to wait, but maybe he signs a 1 year deal with players options to run it back one more time. I hope he stays, Paredes moves to 1st and they go find a couple OFs to fill out the rest of the roster.
  13. Max contract players + trading away all your future draft picks makes your bench really shitty.
  14. That list is pretty bare, and leaves out some good ones. I agree with the Die Hard and Gremlins arguments, both top tier Christmas films. Trading Places also happens around Christmas time. Eyes Wide Shut is technically a Christmas movie by the same standard, and it has its own way of being appealing. My wife's family really likes White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Holiday Inn too, which includes Fred Astaire. They are corny classics, but deserve a mention. The old 1950s Rudolph and Frosty movies were always classic to me. Miracle on 34th Street is still a classic. Muppets Christmas Carol is awesome. Charlie Brown Christmas sucks, just like everything else Charlie Brown related. Those kids were straight up assholes to each other in every show. As a kid, I really liked the Ernest P Worrell movies, and I think I was the only one in my house who liked Ernest Saves Christmas. Haven't watched it in about 30 years and I'm sure it's awful, but I don't want to burst that bubble.

Can you imagine if that list of side effects were the limit for approving drugs as "safe"? We would never see another medicine advertised on TV again in our lives.
  17. 5 point game with 7 minutes left, and both teams are shooting poorly. Can't be too upset with that, OKC plays really good defense too, and both offenses are sputtering tonight. Seems like a lot of missed free throws for the Rockets though. Hope they can pull it off just for the fun of it, but no shame in losing to the Thunder here. They are really really good.
  18. Just looking through some predictions for contracts on these guys for fun: Walker: some say 3 years for 50-75m, or a 1 year 20-27m deal. Seems like a lot, but I do like the short term option for flexibility. Santander: 5 years 88-150m or something longer that spreads out the cost more. He's 30, so anything beyond 4-5 years is going to be during his decline. Still worth it if they can get him to replace Tucker. I just don't think they have the available cash to sign 2 guys at that salary. Until they move other contracts, they are kinda stuck looking for bargains. That Abreu 3rd year still stings, as that money would likely get you Walker for a 1 year rental. I can see the STL deal being appealing because you move the other money at the same time, and potentially get an OF with a couple years of control. That would plug 2 holes at once, shift cash around nicely, and provide some future flexibility. I'm not sure what prospect would need to go to STL in that deal, but it would be nice to get it all done at once. I hope one of those paths work out at least, and we don't end up with some shit like Grichuk and Gallo.
  19. I agree, they will object, derail it from happening, then leave NATO a short while later.
  20. Yikes, that's 42m over 3 years in salary plus 50m deferred. He's 33, so no guarantee he's actually worth it for the next 3 years. Lance costs 35m the next 2 years, Pressley is 14m, so they would cover about half of Arenados cost by sending them out. I don't see why they want to get him if they just got Paredes to play third for a much cheaper cost over the next 3 years. I would rather see them sign Walker as a free agent with no cost in players and find another OF or two. Unless STL is including one of their Outfielders in the deal, I don't think it's worth the cost.
  21. If you trade for Arenado, how does the 50 million in deferred money work? Is that part of the trade? His contract for the next 3 years is already steep, but that deferred money makes it untouchable.
  22. Sad to see Tuck go, but I understand. Build for the future and hope your talent pipeline continues to pull diamonds out of the rough. The Astros farm system has gotten little respect from the people who evaluate Mlb prospects, despite producing a lot of good pitchers. The NL next year is going to be an interesting MVP race with Ohtani, Soto and Tucker over there.
