  1. Yeah I can understand that, it's a much slower show, no laugh tracks, and lots of conversations to follow, lots of characters rotating in and out. I know when I started watching it in college Season 4 was new on TV (the one about The Producers musical, which is still hilarious). I really enjoyed it, but my roommate thought it was boring. About a decade later he ended up watching CYE again and loved it. One thing I found really amusing about CYE is that every time someone in the show brings up the Seinfeld finale as being bad Larry always defends it and says emphatically "There was nothing wrong with it!!" He gets super annoyed by people talking shit about it or saying they should have done something else. Pretty much any time someone criticizes a Seinfeld character or anything about the show he defends it.
  2. Give it a shot now, it definitely gets better as you age. A lot of the Larry Davidisms are much more enjoyable the more you personally reach the "old-man-yells-at-clouds" era of your life.
  3. I recently finished rewatching Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I have to say, if you are a fan of Seinfeld you really need to watch it. It's such a good follow up to Seinfeld and continues the same kind of characters, odd interactions, social issues analysis and nearly wrapped up storylines that made the original so good. If you don't like the Larry David character, at the very least, spend 3 hours watching season 7 for what is essentially the unofficial Seinfeld reunion show. It's so much fun to watch the actors be themselves, but also have to deal with the shadows of their TV characters chasing them through their careers. Larry David is a comedic genius, and I enjoyed every season of Curb, but being a big Seinfeld fan adds a lot more to it. 11 seasons of greatness is hard to achieve, but CYE does it.
  4. Giving up Vaughn Grissom in the deal is a bit of a gamble, he's a good prospect. The Braves get 17m towards Sales 27.5m salary for next season, so he's fairly cheap for a starter.
  5. Precious and Quickly are both RFAs after this season. I assume both will get qualifying offers. OG is likely a free agent and will decline that 19m player option. I would guess he's looking to get about 30m a year for 4 years. RJ Barrett still has 3 years and 80m left on his deal. Not sure how valuable he is around the league at that price. Seems like a decent trade to me, I'm sure the Knicks didn't want all that money tied up in RJ. I know he's only 23, but he's not really showing signs of living up to his extension yet. Pretty average for a third option, and not great efficiency. Maybe the Raptors can develop him into a better trade asset in 2 years.
  6. The Toronto Raptors are finalizing a trade to send OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks for a package that includes RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and a second-round pick, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday. The Raptors will receive a 2024 second-round selection that the Knicks previously acquired from the Detroit Pistons, sources said. The Knicks are also getting forward Precious Achiuwa as part of the deal, sources said. Anunoby has spent his seven-year career with the Raptors since he was a first-round pick in 2017. He was part of Toronto's title-winning team in 2019 and has upped his defensive prowess, leading the NBA in steals last season while being named to the All-Defensive second team.
  7. Here's a fun read on why that loser doesn't deserve a vote: https://tht.fangraphs.com/tht-live/larry-rocca-s-conflict-of-interest/ The MLB HoF is such a joke now, they really need to add a bunch of younger writers and analysts to the process and let the old ones filter out naturally or due to disgust that steroid users are making it in. The gatekeeping they do is unnecessary and harms the sport. Let the fans and teams celebrate the players that pretty much saved the sport in the 90s after the strike, even if it was a bit of fool's gold in a way.
  8. Just out of curiosity, what age did y'all stop with the Santa stuff? We have a 2 and 4 year old, and they both still believe in Santa big time. The older one really believes because I always put on a Santa suit on Christmas Eve and pretend to be putting presents under the tree, and eating the cookies and milk. My wife goes and wakes him up quietly to watch this little show, which has solidified the legend for him. It's fun, but probably not going to work in a year or two. Wife isn't too keen on the idea of it, and seems to think it will be a problem for him, since kids tend to find out the truth around 6-7 years old.
  9. Now imagine this James Harden showed up to the 76ers preseason camp...
  10. Luxury tax payment calculations for 2023 are out, and we can chalk up one more loss for the Mets this season.
  11. So Framber and ?? to White Sox for Cease and LRJ?
  12. This game against the Pacers is going down to the wire, great back and forth between the teams. Sengun and Eason are doing phenomenal.
  13. I don't see the point of trading Pena right now, he's still pretty young, has club control for years and could be a lot better with some good batting coaching. I would keep him until the trade deadline at least. see if he can get better before bailing. Framber I can live with trading for the right package.
  14. But they have to feature him so they can get him ready for an inevitable trade! Maybe they can send him to Philly, since they love former Rockets. Would love to see him, Oladipo and Amen+picks going to Cleveland for Mitchell. If Brooklyn is really trying to get Mitchell, we need the Rockets get in on that trade to prevent those future picks from losing value. Can't let Brooklyn get better, but I also think Mitchell would be a great fit here to help improve the offense.
  15. I listen to Startalk and Mindscape podcasts for science topics. Interesting folks discussing and explaining complex topics to the masses.
  16. I never said they couldn't afford Ohtani's contract, I said they can't afford to spend as much as big city teams. As in the team payrolls that are 200m+. There's no way small market teams are making enough to cover that much annually. Maybe for a year or two they could take losses and then cut costs to recover, but they can't sustain that.
  17. Fans of small market teams know they can't spend as much as those big city teams, so it creates that perception of inequality. There have been plenty of instances where a great player left a small or mid market team for money that their previous team could never dream of spending. To their credit, the league has tried to move things more towards competitive balance with luxury taxes, but without a floor, it really stretched the gulf between the haves and have-nots. In any case, it allows us to laugh at teams that fail at buying rings like the Mets last year. I'll be rooting against the Dodgers either way, but it will be extra funny if spending billions doesn't get them any rings.
  18. Is this sarcasm? There are still plenty of free agents to be signed, and several will make 9 figures. I would assume those guys aren't going to be signed by the dodgers, but who knows at this point. Snell is a free agent and will get a huge deal, but you can't trade for him. I'm sure the Padres would be happy to accept some free prospects for letting them sign him though. And the rest of the league should be thanking the Mets, Yankees, etc who drove up the Dodgers price. I don't think anyone predicted more than 200m for Yamamoto. 27m a year for 12 years on a 25 year old guy who has never played in America is a hell of a gamble. Dude needs to be top 3 in Cy Young voting several times to make that worth it.
