  1. I doubt he would be a gold glove thirdbaseman, he doesn't have the arm for that. In any case, he's a great utility player, but we have had plenty of those come through the organization over the last decade, and there are always new ones to be called up. I think the argument made upthread was more of a "you have to give something to get something," and Dubon is certainly valuable as a trade piece. His value is considerably less for the Astros when the team is healthy too, which we hope (fingers crossed) none of the starters begin the season on the IL for a considerable amount of time. So if he can be a piece of a trade that nets the team a better player, or adds some bullpen depth, why not? The Astros shouldn't have to rely on someone like him in the playoffs, his role should be the 10th man so to speak, but there are plenty of guys who can do that during the regular season. It doesn't have to be one guy backing up 7 others, that's why you have 26 active roster spots.
  2. I didn't know about this rule, but I think it warrants some discussion:
  3. I know Dubon looks like a dorky 15 year old high school kid, but he's actually 29. Chas is 28, both of them have 3 years of arbitration left. They are both expected to get about 3.2 million in arbitration this offseason, so the question is, which one do you prefer, or do you trade both/neither? I know which one I prefer of the 2...
  4. It's not just the salary, the tax saving is HUNDREDS of millions for the Warriors. I didn't have time to calculate it earlier, but here's some napkin math for next year: Warriors in 2024 have about ~140 million committed without Klay and CP3 on the roster. If they were to re-sign Klay for 25m a year, then they are right up against the tax with 165m committed. Assuming all of Poole's 29.651 million was repeater luxury tax, it would have cost the Warriors 164 MILLION $ in luxury tax in 2024 alone! That's not including 2025/26, which is 2 more years to go and escalating salaries of 31 and 34m. There's also a more significant penalty as a team goes further into the tax, every 5 million costs more, so if they continued to try to compete and sign/trade for contracts, it only exacerbates their luxury taxes. The trade was a ginormous win for the Warriors by dumping a future 3 years 95 million in salary committed to a shitty player. This is what that 2024 salary tax looks like:
  5. The Warriors dumped a 130 million in money committed to a player that's not worth more than an MLE, for a 30m expiring deal with a player that will positively contribute. All for a top 20 protected 1st and a 2nd. A typical salary dump costs a team about a 1st for every 15-30m in salary dumped, and the tax savings from this is enormous for Golden State. There are very few teams that would have been in a position to take on Poole's 30m a year, they should have asked for more picks at the very least.
  6. Dude, nobody wants to see that, we'll take your word for it.
  7. Truly one of the most lopsided trades of all time, and the Warriors never paid a dime of that JP extension. They didn't even send some cash to help cover Pooles ridiculous contract. It's still unbelievable that the Bullets accepted that deal for a couple of bad picks. They could have gotten more for CP3. Traded Chris Paul to Golden State (GSW) from Washington (WAS) for Jordan Poole, 2030 1st round pick [Top-20 protected] , 2027 2nd round pick, Ryan Rollins and Patrick Baldwin Jr.
  8. Yeah, but just imagine this team with Wemby instead of Thompson... The Spurs have a lot of roster work to do this off-season, it will be interesting to see if they can snag any star free agents. They really need another point guard to help facilitate.
  9. Who is Rick James? I think I was down 4-8 going into this last game, and was able to tie it by a hair with a nearly full roster! Nearly stole the win with 3PM, but just fell short. Maxey having the game of his life did help quite a bit. Wish I had drafted him in the 6th instead of the 5th round for keepers... Stupid triple double category is gonna cost me a point every week
  10. Wow, hell of a game today, they really are a good young team. This team has potential to win the division this year and make some noise in the playoffs. Such a quick turnaround for a team that didn't look like it would win more than 5 games going into the season. Awesome 😎
  11. Lol, can't imagine why a Dallas fan would want to lampoon only Harden and overlook Kyrie being a fucking weirdo antivaxxer and antisemite. If literally any other all-star was in Brooklyn instead of Kyrie, Harden doesn't request a trade out of there. Anyways, have fun rooting for that guy Mavs fans, and just hope he doesn't run off Luka before that 375m extension is signed.
  12. That's too much value for something that isn't important. Winning a real championship doesn't even give you a pick, a 2nd rounder seems fair, pick 31 is decent.
  13. Yeah I noticed that, they load up one night with nearly 15 games, then 2 the next. Seems kind of dumb not to balance it out more.
  14. What a douchebag. I'll go block him on Twitter too, if enough people do it, it will downrate his tweets.
  15. Would love to know the demographics of that 17% that would consider voting for her. Who the hell does she appeal to? I figured most of her fans would lean D, but that poll, if accurate and reasonable, shows about a near even split in people who would otherwise vote R/D.
  16. I wonder if that 8m a year Counsell deal is causing issues with the perceived value of the manager position and the negotiation of contracts. That one was a real shock to the league and may have caused agents to push for more money for attractive candidates. Getting at least 2 teams to bid on your guy should net a couple million more, so there could be some jockeying for more money behind the scenes. I believe the remaining open positions are Astros, Padres and Brewers. Not a whole lot of seats left if anyone is trying to create a bidding war. I think the Angels just said "fuck it" and hired the cheapest guy available to lead them as tank commander and save some cash. I can't imagine any other teams interviewed Washington, and I don't see any reports of it happening.
  17. Motiva is selling terminals to Global Partners LP. I have a good friend who supports these assets and he's not too happy about it. Anyone know much about GP? https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20231108711745/en/Global-Partners-LP-to-Acquire-25-Liquid-Energy-Terminals-from-Motiva-Enterprises-LLC
  18. What the fuck? Why? That contract is terrible and the guy gets hurt too much. He hasn't played a full season in 5 years. Unless the Angels eat 90% of his contract.and take Jake Meyers in return, there's no way.
  19. Hire Maldy as an assistant coach and let him retire with some dignity. He's too old and slow to be a catcher in this league even in limited play, and the club would be better off finding a young player or two to fill the backup role. Korey Lee would have been a better backup option than Maldy in 2024.
