Another manager worth checking on would be Kevin Cash of the Rays. He makes 2 million a year with them, which is very cheap for a successful manager. If nothing else, offering him 5 million a year and forcing the Rays to renegotiate his contract means they have less money to spend on their team. I can't believe how cheap some of these managers are in the MLB, when every other major sport seems to start at 5m+ for a head coach. I can see a team like the A's or Royals spending very little, but the Rays have been a contender for several years now and they are about to build a new stadium. We should make them tie up some money if possible, or steal their manager in the process

Seems like a good deal for the 76ers, or at least the best they could do. Offloading an aging PJ Tucker who didn't really play in their first 3 games is a win for them. I don't know what is going on with that OKC pick, but getting any 1sts in return is a surprise. All 4 of the players Philly gets are expiring deals. James Harden trade details 76ers receive: Marcus Morris Nicolas Batum Robert Covington Kenyon Martin Jr. 2026 Clippers first-round pick via Thunder 2028 Clippers first-round pick (unprotected) One first-round pick swap Two future second-round picks Clippers receive: James Harden P.J. Tucker Filip Petrusev Thunder receive: Assets to be named later 76ers grade: B+ The Sixers were in a tough spot with Harden, whose market had almost completely dried up. There was little interest outside of the Clippers. While they didn't get the player who they were targeting in Terance Mann, this does help them moving forward. This is an addition-by-subtraction move for the Sixers first and foremost. They are no longer at risk of Harden posing a distraction, which he has done in the past when trade demands drag on. And Tyrese Maxey has exploded in Harden's absence, averaging 30.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists in the Sixers' first three games. Moving Harden allows Maxey to continue to flourish in his new role and the team can continue playing more quickly in a more egalitarian style under Nick Nurse. MORE: Week 1 overreactions: Denver's dominance, Tyrese Maxey's leap and more The Sixers are also getting some decent role players back who will help them this year and then go off their books to open up cap space down the line. Nicolas Batum, Marcus Morris and Robert Covington are all older players who can spread the floor with shooting and have veteran playoff experience. Covington may be the best of the three, and Morey seems to have an affinity for him — this is the third time that Morey has acquired Covington over the course of his 11-year career. KJ Martin is the most interesting of the players acquired by the Sixers. He'll be a restricted free agent next summer, and he showed some real promise while with the Rockets as an athletic wing with some two-way potential. He can fly in for some weakside blocks. Like his father Kenyon Martin, he's a great play finisher. And while he's not a great shooter, hitting 33.8 percent of his 3s for his career, he has shot a better percentage earlier in his career. This is a nice amount of draft capital, too. Given the age of their star players, those 2026 and 2028 Clippers picks have a chance to be very good down the line. For the same reason, that pick swap has real value as well. It's tough to see a top-30 player go out the door without receiving one back. But the assets that the team acquired, along with that draft capital and potential cap space next summer, allow them to make another move down the line. This seems more like a "to be continued" trade than anything else. Clippers grade: B Harden's fit on this team is going to be a little bit weird. It immediately raises the question of what will happen with Russell Westbrook, who took a huge pay cut to come back to the team and played well for them last season. Harden and Westbrook already have history playing together, so we know a little bit about what that might look like. Both Harden and Westbrook need the ball in their hands, and this takes away the nice fit that led to Westbrook's career resurrection after a disastrous stint with the Lakers. It might make sense to move him to the bench in order to let him continue to be the lead ball handler in those units. This could end up working nicely, though. Harden is still a fantastic passer — he led the league in assists last season. The Clippers were playing a rough style of basketball, depending far too heavily on isolations from Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. While both are extremely talented scorers, they were less than the sum of their parts. Harden has shown that he is willing to take a backseat to better players, as he did with Joel Embiid in Philadelphia. He can play the facilitator role for this team and get everyone the ball in their favorite spots. And he has better shooting around him than he did with the Sixers, which should make him an even more dangerous passer. P.J. Tucker should also help despite declining considerably over the years. His defense isn't what it once was, but he's still above average in that department. He's a good offensive rebounder and 3-point shooter, hitting 40.5 percent over the past two seasons. But he can be too reticent to let them fly, leading to teams not guarding him. This trade has a decent chance of blowing up in the Clippers' face given that a bunch of egos could end up fighting each other for shots. But this team wasn't going anywhere anyway. This gives them more championship equity than they had in the past. Thunder grade: Incomplete We don't know exactly how the Thunder have been roped into this trade yet. What we do know is that the Clippers' 2026 first-round pick, which the Thunder acquired as part of the Paul George trade in 2019, is now being routed to the Sixers. The cost for that pick is going to be high. The Thunder are getting something good back. We will have to wait and see what that is.

I find it interesting that Cleveland is interviewing Craig Counsell, I didn't know he would be an option, but I think he would be an excellent hire for the Astros. He's a smart guy, runs the team with a more modern analytics type approach, and has had success with one of the cheapest clubs in the MLB. He could probably do a lot more with a team willing to spend. He also hit that game 7 walkoff single as a rookie in 1997 against Cleveland, so fuck him for that... but he would make a good option over a lot of the other names thrown out. Vogt has been interviewed twice by Cleveland, but hasn't been offered the job, so it appears he's on ice while they continue interviews. Counsell's former boss David Stearns left Milwaukee for the Mets this offseason, so there is speculation he may wind up there, but he hasn't interviewed with the Mets yet (despite them getting clearance to do so). Stearns was also considered for the Astro's POBO position, which hopefully tells us a bit about what direction the plan to go with management in the near future. I haven't seen any confirmed interviews for Joe Espada yet. I know several teams have been suggested as being interested in him, but no confirmations yet. Anyone see any news on him?

In case you missed it from the Spurs game, the Sengun dunk over Zach Collins was pretty cool! -

4 years 86m for this guy lol... -
Those teams would be a shootout every game, hard to say. Feels like it would be an all-star game of 161-159 at the end of 48 minutes.

What a shame, I guess this means the LAX 2194 reboot will never happen.

Oklahoma is outside of Texas.

Cleaning house, I like it. Only good things can come from this, right?

It helps that Jarret Allen hasn't played a game yet, and the Cavs don't have a real center behind him. This was an issue last year when he missed like 30 games and they had no interior defense without him. He has a huge impact on the team and creates a glaring hole when he's out. Other sad/funny thing from last night was Okoro got elbowed in the head away from the ball and hit the floor in the paint. Chet drives from the outside to go try a short shot from 5 feet and lands on him and the ref calls a foul on Okoro for being in the shooters landing area...

It's still a young team, lots of time to develop. Nobody should be expecting the playoffs at this point in the rebuild, it's a happy accident if it happens. They took a similarly young and upcoming team to OT and lost. Meh, it happens. At some point though, this team will need to grapple with tanking for a top 4 pick and going for the play-in, just like better teams in Dallas and Portland did last year. Keeping that first and picking this year could be a tremendous boost in the future. -
Team 1, no question for me. Team 1 defense should be a lot better than Team 2, and they both have insane scoring options. SGA and Hali would have a field day passing the ball though, would be fun to watch.

Is there any team that allows their GM the solre responsibility of hiring a new manager? I would guess not. I don't think it's unusual to have the owner involved, but most teams also have a POBO to assist too. They need one of those, assuming it's not going to be Bagwell, and get some more smart baseball people in those upper management roles to help guide the club. Given the comments Crane has made about the 2017 scandal, I don't think we will ever see Hinch or Lunhow connected to this team again. Same for Cora and Beltran, you don't want to bring that back around unless you are going full evil empire. Crane isn't going to standby and let the club hire guys he doesn't like, even if they may be the best option, that's part of being an owner. For all the shit Dusty got as a manager here, he did fulfill his purpose of keeping the window open and changing the face of leadership in the org. He was a clean guy, well liked, friendly face and he did great in that role. His tactical decisions left a lot to be desired, but overall he did serve the club well given the situation he inherited. But the team is past the fallout now, they don't need the kind old folksy manager any more, go get a stone cold killer that can make hard decisions and get back to the World Series next year. Verlander and Altuve need a third ring!

24-25 Fantasy League (seeking additional members)
Dutchrudder replied to Baboontyme's topic in Basketball
I got no keepers, picked 10th, and I thought being first on the waiver wire would net me someone good after the first few games, but apparently the players aren't locked and put on waivers during their games... so I missed a few good ones. Not used to fantasy NBA, it's a bit of a steep curve. On the bright side, I saw some of the guys the rest of you picked up in this league and got them in my other league, Cam Thomas, Max Strus and Harrison Barnes were all free agents and I snapped them up! First place in that league now -
