  1. Anyone else lose the google voice search bar to google assistant? this shit is not ok and there are a few articles that are months and years old talking about google making the searches go through assistant, but nothing recent i can find. it just happend to mine within the last few hours. i use the voice search all the time and hate the assistant.
  2. That's one of the bad things with cirrhosis. There often aren't symtoms until it's well advanced. There's not much you can do at the decompensated stage except wait and hope for a donor. I don't know if they put you higher on the list if it's going to be fatal before 6 months of sobriety or if that is a steadfast rule set in stone. But you're doing all you can with not being in it alone and not feeling like you did something wrong. I'm sure the thoughts have been there. Hang in there, Troph.
  3. Atypical season 3 is on. I liked the first 2.
  4. Haha. That fucking chain to keep them out.
  5. i'll take that at 5' 10", if I could maintain it with the occasional cheesecake on top of a pizza. Fried.
  6. You found a rock in your backyard that you didn't know what it was, so you hopped down to the local college, grabbed a professor and had him take a looksie?
  7. Tried out trekking poles for the first time yesterday on a short 6 miles at lake Georgetown. They made a huge difference once I got the rythm and hang of them. I was a little skeptical of using them because I like to kind of bounce around and take a few jogging hops to get up and around obstacles. It kind of turns it into more of a sport for me I guess. I thought I'd be encumbered by poles, but I wasn't at all. Saved me from going down a couple times, too. That didn't sound right
  8. Weighed in at 188 today which is my lowest in 18 months. My highest ever has only been around 220, so it's not a huge thing, but it feels good still. I'm on my 3rd go around with keto. My first one was good. Felt great and dropped from 215 to 190. The second time I didn't lose much and I didn't feel good like the first time. Was stuck between 195-200 and couldn't budge it. This time I feel great again and am dropping a couple pounds a week. The only difference in the second time was artificial sweetners, mainly diet soda and sugar free gum. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but there's nothing else I can think of that was different. The more you know.....
  9. Same. Thought it was great. Good seeing Wesley back. Snoop was a bad idea.
  10. goddamn if that picture didn't just reach out and choke me the fuck up
  11. It might not be the kind of denial you think and it's hard to explain it. At least for me, I knew exactly what the problem was and that I couldn't just slow it down, but I would have to quit altogether or not at all. But when you're that dependent, your brain really plays tricks on you and you give up fighting it. YOu know you're lying to yourself. I've sat there and had arguments out loud with myself. You care and you don't care quite enough. Maybe you'll care later. That's it, just think about later. That sounds good. It's a very, very confusing and dark place to be.
  12. So there is an actual weekly column in the NY Times, that people share their personal love stories and the paper publishes 1 per week and this show has picked 8 of those and turned them each into 30 minute shows? Is that what's going on with Modern Love? Has it been a column for years and they picked 8 stories out of hundreds or thousands of these already published stories?
  13. Man that's a motherfucker, Hulla. I really wonder how drugs, outside of alcohol didn't grab a hold of me. I've always had an addictive personality. Alcohol was right from the start. Cigarettes, the same. I'm that way with caffeine too. Once I start a soda or start on coffee, I want more and more. Obviously not as hard to put down my 10th cup of coffee than it was my 10th drink, but who gives a fuck about caffeine when it's in place of a 12 pack and bottle. With the exception of heroin, meth, crack, I've probably tried most of them. I loved them all. I'd never turn down a big beautiful line when I was out drinking with the crew, and I would do as much as was in front of me, but the next night out drinking I didn't care if it was around or not. Same with pills. If I got some vicodin or something for an injury, It was a great feeling, but I was somehow able to avoid the worst part of that road. I'm grateful for that. Booze is difficult enough by itself.
  14. Officer Ginger and Sex Cop now in the Surly lexicon.
  15. What do y'all for food storage when you're out backpacking in non bear areas? I figured in the tent would be fine, but then I read a bunch of people that had mice and shit chew through their shelter even when they were in it and that would suck. But is a hundred dollars for something like a ursack and odor proof liner really necessary? I'd much rather spend the money on that than hang it every night, though. Do I have other options?
  16. Yeah right. Sorry for your loss. 14 years is a great run.
  17. Want random other shit? Watch Tickle on Hulu.
  18. I was going back and forth on those 2. Do you use it as your main backpacking shelter?
  19. Is this a metaphor or are you saying your shoes actually melted inside your house? Did you have a fire in the closet? Are you really the Devil?
  20. I'm starting to get some gear to start backpack camping and I'm now shopping for a sleeping pad. I'm not going to be needing ultralight I don't think, but I'm still trying to keep things light and packable. I don't see myself doing more than 10-15 miles a day, most cases, so that's why I say I don't think I need to go ultralight. Also talking about several days of hiking, not weeks. At the same time, I'd also like gear that would be light enough to get me through 20 mile days if I want to. But my tent is already 60 oz. total, so I'm already heavy to start. Maybe too heavy, I dunno. I went a little heavier on the tent (2P Nemo Dagger) because I like the option of being able to set it up as a base camp and day hiking the area and coming back to it at night, but also being able to take it with me if I don't have a base camp. Basically I have no idea what I'm doing at this point or where I'm going, so just bear with me. I guess inflatable would be the best choice for that type? I'm not sold on that, just seems it would be best for what I'll be doing. I've been reading up on them, but my question is, does one exist for camping from 20 degrees to 80 degrees, or am I looking at 2 different pads? Is a 2 R value going to freeze me on a 20 degree night, and a 6R value melt me on a 70 degree night? Something in between for that large of a temperature range? I think I have everything else right now to get started. I have an older 20 degree Mountain Hardware down sleeping bag, that packs down pretty well and I think is around 40 oz. I know a lot of backpackers prefer the quilts, but I think that bag will suffice for now until I get a little more of a feel for things. I'll scour the Big Bend thread because after a few nights around the Lake Georgetown trail, because it's close, that's probably where I'll head. Or somewhere over in West Texas, doesn't have to be Big Bend I suppose. I'll have a bunch more questions on that later.
  21. I've decided that I'm just not built to get below about 190 with some pudge no matter how hard I try, and just being careful will keep me around 195. I think I'm destined to just be slightly diet lazy and slighty fat. I really do feel a ton better cutting carbs, though. I was the first person to say just eat less of whatever and exercise a little more if you want to lose weight and quit looking for a magic solution. And low carb, low fat, low whatever was stupid and mainly marketing shit. But the difference of how I feel when I really cut down on carbs is significant, so I am a believer that it does something good. Plus I have liver issues and cutting carbs is supposed to be good for that, so I have another incentive for that type of diet. My problem is, when I cheat, I go off the fucking rails and order pizza 5 days in a row and grab a snickers bar everytime I walk by one. I'm still trying to figure out how to just have 1 or 2 shitty (great) cheat meals or days and then get back on track quickly.
  22. Oh I gotcha. I've never measured that way.
