  1. Haha. Yeah. It'll be my second season sober for it. Last season was only a couple months after I got sober. I have always only watched games alone though, so I wasn't around booze and it wasn't hard not to drink. Well, wasn't extra hard just because college ball was here.
  2. I have a question. I just moved back and they hadn't done whatever it is they did to Auditorium Shores yet when I left. Is there some reason they let all the shrubbery by the water along that stretch grow up to 15 feet so the view of the water and downtown are blocked from there? It struck me as odd. Also, what is it exactly they are trying to accomplish with that whole part?
  3. Are you saying I can pay for and pass the classroom part tests online on my own, then take that to any place that does "check out dives" to get certified whenever and whereever I choose? I would get the basic open water certification doing that and then at a different time I could do the other levels if I wanted? Would that require different online certification, as well as different check out dives? Is the basic and advanced an option to do at one time if I wanted? Because the basic open water cert is a prerequisite to for the advanced, correct? If I did the online part and then waited to do the check out dives where I turned it into a vacation trip, wouldn't that cut into my diving time on my trip a lot by having to do the check out dives there instead of just doing it around here? That's a lot of questions, sorry.
  4. Anyone been to Ooga Booga Waffles? It looks kinda amazing. Good thing I'm watching carbs. https://www.oogaboogawaffles.com/
  5. I'm gonna bump this because I need to find a primary in North Austin. Really doesn't have to be in North Austin, that's just where I am. I'm a recovering alcoholic, so I can't have some judgy prick. That won't work with me. I actually prefer female doctors because they seem less judgy to me, but I don't care that much. Anyway, maybe a bump will have some recs. Didn't even get one the first time around. Also need a GI doctor if anyone has one of those they like.
  6. Yeah I should've qualified, before calling her a bitch and cunt on here, that it was not a request and the flight attendant was in no way pleasant or nice in any way about asking me to move. Not even a "please" anywhere in there. Cunt.
  7. I have a question that's kinda related and doesn't warrant its own thread. But it was AA, so....I was in an aisle bulkhead seat and about an hour before landing, 2 hours after being in the air, flight attendant bitch comes up and tells me I need to switch seats with some lady in a middle seat in the back because she was having panic/anxiety issues. I wasn't ok with it, but I did it because I didn't know what else to do or want to cause a scene. I also didn't have a connection I was in danger of missing. But looking back, I think I should have told her to fuck right off. What say you? Was it within my right to tell flight cunt to fuck right off? Does that make me an absolute prick? I really don't care about being a prick. I try not to be, but commercial air travel is my living hell to begin with. I'd rather be on a Greyhound. I really just want to know if I could have refused to do it.
  8. Scuba is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. What are my options here? Do I just have to start with the beginner open water cert. or whatever they call it? What does that get me? Can I go anywhere and dive or do a lot of places require the advanced cert. too? The PADI and local sites don't tell me much about that. Just that there are different levels of certs. Anyone have experience getting certified in Austin? I'm north/central but that doesn't really matter to me. Tom's on Burnet is right up the road and has a bunch of good reviews. Any tips on anything else to do with it that I'm not thinking about is appreciated.
  9. Not cheap but good. Also these cheese tortilla things are good for tacos and what not. Just a few seconds in the microwave though. Which cheese tortillas? Been wondering about those
  10. Just an FYI for those watching carbs and don't know about Whisps cheese crisps, they are a great snack. The parmesan and asiago and pepper jack are my favorites. All are good. https://www.whisps.com/
  11. Had the same experience with the brisket today. The spare ribs were good. The pickles were delicious.
  12. We did Santa Rosa Beach last year and we all liked it. I was under the impression Rosemary Beach would not be as crowded, that's why I was leaning toward it. If that's not the case, SRB was really nice. The only drawback, as I mentioned, is the place where we stayed had very steep stairs to the beach. Surely we can find a place that's not as bad around there though. I'd think at least.
  13. I was keto for 5 months and lost 20, almost all of that in the first 2 months. I went off the rails for 4 weeks and put on maybe 7 or 8 pounds. No biggie. I was basically eating everything I wanted, including a lot of sweets. Been back on keto for a full week and haven't dropped a pound. Same every morning. I've been exercising the same and been below 20 grams of carbs everyday. No sugar. So what gives? Does my body just need some more time to kick back into fat burning mode?
  14. What are some of the spots I can fish within an hour or two of Austin? No boat, just shore fishing for bass and such. I like rivers and secluded. Is that possible on public land in the hill country? I haven't really looked at the googles yet.
  15. Also, if you are thinking about going cold turkey, don't just dismiss thestud's story as his friend simply having PTSD from being a soldier. I came off cold turkey and had very bad hallucinations and I've never been in the military or really any situation to cause me to mentally react the way I did to quiting without medical help. Not saying it will happen to you, but that's also what I thought about myself. I had quit maybe 10 times by myself and had never had a reaction like that, so I didn't think about being monitored when I stopped that time. I was just taking a break, too. Not even trying to quit for good. I also couldn't figure out what the fuck happened to me. The alcohol withdrawl wasn't even on my radar. It took me a few months after I had quit to piece together a lot of events over that previous year and a lot of reading to make me realize that those hallucinations were 100 percent from that. And it was some scary shit. I only remember bits and pieces of it, but I was ordering Uber's to go to parties (I don't go to parties) that didn't exist, with friends of friends who didn't exist. Crawling around the sidewalks of my nieghborhood looking for the Uber driver's keys that he had lost. Yelling at my neighbors who were asking me why I was crawling around the neighborhood yelling at nobody at 3 in the morning. Thinking my Uber driver and his family and their dog were all in my backyard looking for the keys and yelling at them to leave. Thinking there were raccoons inside my house. Just bizzare shit. I actually had ordered Uber and Lyft because there were charges, but that's all I know. I found out later that those sorts of DT's can be brought on by liver disease, which I didn't know I had. But now I do. So it was too late for me in that regard. My liver's cirrhotic. There's no going back from that. My life has been significantly shortened and that's something I have to think about everyday. That's something I had to tell my mother and my father and my sister and my close friends. You, and anyone stuggling with this, think about what that conversation is going to be like with your family if it comes to that. And the conversations you have with yourself everyday when you're wondering how the fuck you could let it go that far. I hope I'm not being preachy, just trying to give you my personal reality that might make you think about it from my perspective, so hopefully it doesn't become yours.
  16. Does The Newsroom get better as it goes on? I had heard good things when it was on but forgot about it. Trying to get through the first couple episodes hasn't been easy.
  17. Skeptical but I have high hopes that Eddie is gonna make some great stuff for the next decade or so then ride into the sunset.
  18. Keep on keepin' on, CDM. I'm just ahead of you at 460 days and still wonder why I wasted so much of my life living drunk. Doesn't do any good to look back, but it's hard to help it, too. I don't know if the honeymoon phase ends, or if everyday is a reminder of how life can and should be, but I love being sober.
  19. I did too, but that season 3 threw me for a loop when they started saying fuck and had gay man sex that was kind of graphic. I hadn't realized ABC cancelled it and Netflix took it over for a season.
  20. https://megastunguns.com/ These batons are fun if you have a lot of critters on your property. You can sit on the porch and scare the crap out of them with the sound. They say it has some fequency humans can't hear that fucks with animals. I dunno, but it's fun. Supposed to knock the shit out of people, too. Haven't tried that yet, personally. I have this one. Don't know how to embed. Maybe this works.
  21. Oddly curious as to what denominations they money was in.
  22. Patriot for sure. I could watch 10 seasons of that I bet. Anybody watched Widow? Didn't get great reviews, but I don't need great to enjoy a show like that, so I figure it's worth a shot.
  23. I've been tasked to find something around Rosemary beach for March. My folks want something small for the whole month and then an additional 3 or 4 bedroom for a week of that for my sister's family and probably me, that are close to each other. It doesn't have to be Rosemary beach, but I've been there briefly and think that would fit the best. I haven't looked at prices, but money needs to be a consideration, and I don't know if that rules out some of the areas around there. Doesn't have to be 1000 a week, but can't be 5000 a week, either. Also needs to be a pretty short walk to the beach. We went to Seaside last March and I liked it, but it was a little crowded for what they would like. They won't want to be out away from everything, though. Also, I don't know if it is common on that 30A stretch, but the stairs were brutally steep to the beach from our condo. My folks aren't able to do that these days without a lot of effort. Do I just need to scour Homeaway, VRBO, etc.? Is one area significantly different in price than others right there? Also saw Grayton beach mentioned above. That's a place I've heard good things about, but I didn't go there, that I recall.
  24. Just watched 1 and 2 and liked it a lot. Thanks for the rec. Why is season 3 the only season on there that isn't free? Haven't looked to see if PBS has on demand or streaming where I could watch it. Guess I could just pay the 15 to watch it on Prime.
