Yeah, buddy called me from there yesterday. It is going to be bad. North Coast of the DR is also going to flood.
But damn, Jamaica? Cat 4-5? And moving so slow could park.
And now Colombia. Sanction vs. the President, his family and members of the government. And a pretty large cut in assistance. Most of alternative development (but that was USAID) and yep, anti-narcotics.
'We Do Not Kneel': Colombian President Defiant In Response To US Sanctions
They are/were are #1 ally in the region.
"We do not kneel. We will not take a step back," Colombian President Gustavo Petro tells his supporters at a rally on Bolivar Square in Bogota, as he and his family are placed on a US sanctions list. The US Treasury has blacklisted Gustavo Petro, first lady Veronica Alcocer, his eldest son Nicolas, and Interior Minister Armando Benedetti, banning them from travel to the United States and freezing any US assets they hold. The rupture caps months of personal friction between US President Donald Trump and Petro over US deportations and strikes on suspected drug boats off the coast of South America.

Shit, my trashcan is still on the street. Let me know if you find it please.
Today was trash day and I did not pull it in.
Nice light show, lots of sirens (usual for San Marcos on a Friday) but damn they are all over the place. Heard a few tree limbs go down.
Yes and no. There is some of that. But there is also the payout and ability to get paid a lot than working in a cannery or gold mine.
Plata y plomo usually applies to businesses and police/military.
Most volunteer. I am not in agreement with the attacks. But lets be clear. A lot of those who do this, including American light aircraft pilots in the 1980's and 1990's did is for cash.
An example. In the Chapare or Upper Huallaga the people who work at the pozos, where pasta basica is made, do it for jobs. They know their feet are going to rot up to their knees, but they do it. No one forces them. These are areas of incredible poverty and almost no infrastructure. So the kids take the jobs and walk on horrid chemicals (yeah, that is what is also going into your nose) until they can no longer do it.
My mom bought me a sealed Atari 5200 in NYC when they came out. From a store. Got home and it had rocks in it. We were flying in the AM so yeah, not much you can do. Buyer beware.
It will be a nasty as war. Even if you take out Maduro and the core of the military, now you get guerillas.
That is why I think our goal is going to be simple. Remove the government, take Maracaibo.
Ummmm.
Pentagon Orders Aircraft Carrier to the Caribbean
WASHINGTON—The Pentagon said it is sending the Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier to the Caribbean in a major escalation of the Trump administration’s military campaign to target drug smugglers and threaten governments in Latin America.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier, which is currently deployed in the Mediterranean, to the Caribbean, bringing dozens more fighter and surveillance aircraft, along with other Navy warships that accompany a carrier, officials said.
