  1. I can’t use these and am selling at face value. $3,510.
  2. Ran my first 1/2 in Houston on Sunday. 7:17 pace with 1:35:22 finish time. Not bad for a 44 year old. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I also just wanted to circle back on the eve of completing 8 months without alcohol. The positive changes in my life are palpable, remarkable and numerous. My relationships with my wife and with each of my kids are amazing. I thought I was a good dad and husband before I quit drinking due to my effort and by how much I truly loved my kids and wife. I am so much more centered in every interaction and I can feel the emotional trust they are giving me. My apologies if I am not describing it well. With my work, it’s as if I ripped a governor from myself. I have always been pretty successful but addled with anxiety about work. I am just running laps around my former self in approach, drive, work product, interpersonal relationships at work and results. I know there will be challenges and I am only (almost) 8 months in, but I dare anyone to bet against me.
  4. Man this part describes me so well it’s almost like I wrote it myself.
  5. Don’t want to start any rumors I was just spitballing with the worst possible person I could imagine on the board.
  6. I used to live in that part of the district (we are now in cedar creek/hill country). Put this shit on blast if you do find out who it is. These people should be doxxed , shamed and harassed. His employer should know about it as should all neighbors. Fuck these assholes.
  7. Yes they are using the term “parental rights” in their anti mask crusade and anti CRT paranoia
  8. The Eanes Kids First/anti masker that was routed in last years’ school board election posted this to her Instagram account at 6:57 pm on a Saturday night in response to Eanes’ announcement. She must have sobered up this morning because it was deleted this morning
  9. I should add, I am very much aware that this is, at least in my case for the time being, a minute by minute battle. I certainly was tempted to blow it off and drink while relaxing at a beautiful resort in paradise. Vacation resorts cater to the drinker, and it certainly is everywhere. I have a few mental and physical guardrails that work very well for me. My therapist tells me I am good at “playing the tape forward”. If I am tempted to grab a drink or 10 after work or while at the beach (or wherever I am), I will play the tape forward. I recognize that I might feel temporarily good from drinking, but I can visualize all the bad that comes with it very specifically in order to get past it. I consider my sobriety a gift to myself and I don’t want to go back and that outweighs any short term relief that comes with alcohol. As for physical guardrails, I lift weights for an hour every morning at 7:00 and run 4 miles at a 7 minute per mile clip during “happy hour” every evening. As I sit on the plane heading back from the Big Island, I just can’t believe I am 6 months sober and just did 2 weeks of vacation without booze. Well done Abogado Peligroso!
  10. Sorry to post and run. Until July of last year, I couldn’t have pictured myself going a day without drinking. By my 40s, I was drinking 2 bottles of wine a day at least. My anxiety was off the charts but stopping wasn’t even a possibility. One Sunday last July I had gotten pretty drunk and slipped when I was going upstairs to feed the cat before bed. I bumped my head on the stairs and cut my forehead pretty badly. My wife (a normie) had gone to bed a couple of hours before, and was already pretty mad at me for drinking so much that evening. When she woke up the next morning to find me covered in blood she told me (not the first time) that I needed to make changes or she was through. At that time, I decided to take a year break from drinking. It was going very well but was never a permanent thing in my mind. I made it 4 months but started drinking again on election night. By December I was drinking every day again. There wasn’t really an epiphany for me. I just realized I was powerless to alcohol and needed to stop forever and that I couldn’t do it on my own. I am not a religious person, But with the help of a great therapist, I have made some amazing changes. I just finished a 2 week vacation in Hawaii that would have typically been a boozy mess. Instead it was my first sober vacation. Sunsets have never been prettier
  11. I have never posted on this thread but lurked while I was still drinking. Today is my 44th birthday and I have been alcohol free since January 31, 2021. I am an alcoholic and it was the best decision I ever made. This is the best thread on surly. Life is great!
  12. Heath Novosad and Doug Daniels at this law firm: https://dtlawyers.com/attorneys/ are Mike Lindell’s attorneys on his suit that is destined to return Trump to office by August. This is stunning to me, these guys were long time partners at one of the top big Texas firms.
  13. This guy has a long story and it isn’t pretty.
  14. This doesn’t happen. If they pay percentage rent on gross receipts on a monthly basis then they will have a big bump in their percentage rent in a busy month.
  15. There may be a thread on this but I am too lazy to search. Once you have cut the cable/satellite cord, how do you watch football?
  16. Roger Mackenzie in Outlander. My wife makes me watch it.
  17. Thanks, we actually have lunch reservations at Flora Farms. I appreciate the advice on dinner. We are thinking of dinner at Mona Lisa one night and lunch at the office as well.
  18. I was at the grand velas riviera maya for Christmas in playa. No seaweed at all.
  19. Bumping this as I am taking the wife this July. Staying 4 nights at The Cape and 4 nights at the Grand Velas. We probably need 5 off resort restaurant recommendations. We have never done Cabo before so I have no idea what we are doing otherwise. Any can’t misses?
