The kids wanted to keep playing because they were having fun so I agreed to do all stars. This is juniors (14u) and it's pretty much the red headed step child up here. At this age they are either in travel ball or legion ball for the summer but whatever.
Well, southern half of the state had zero teams sign up. Northern half only had us and a team across town. Fuck it. Let's go. 3 game series for a state title and a trip to Bend for regionals.
We don't have enough kids. Only 9 from our team committed. So we pull up 2 12u's and get approval from the western region to go with 11. Then we get dates and a kid has to bow out because they have a family reunion or some shit. Ok. 10 will be hard but whatever. Get approval to go with 10.
Yesterday one of my better players and best utility guy breaks his arm fucking around on his scooter.
Got approval tonight to go with 9. I think it's mostly because they don't want to just forfeit a team to a state title but boy howdy. This is going to be interesting! But I'm ride or die with these little shits. Been the most rewarding 3 months that I can remember.
Shit I'm sure everyone in this thread knows, but the mechanical shark was such a piece of shit in the salt water that Spielberg could hardly use it. Had to use footage of real sharks, and mostly no shark. Just barrels, music, etc. And the movie is so much better for it.
Ben Gardner scene was shot in a swimming pool after the fact that they dumped milk into to make it murky.
Shark was named Bruce after Spielberg's attorney.
God damnit!
This. Par is meaningless. Make every hole a par 3 and winning score is +50. Make every hole a par 5 and winning score is -50. You shoot what you shoot. Lowest score wins. Regardless of whether it is a black or red number.
I think the one length irons don't help, either. Everything just goes so high. There is no flighting of the ball or anything. Which is really odd because he's a good chipper with lots of imagination around the greens.
At Augusta Rory put on a clinic in shot making against him.
I'm about 250 miles from Seattle so all the grocery stores carry oysters year round. But there is this fish truck that goes over to the docks on Monday and sets up in the Lowes parking lot on Tuesday and bring back some of the best fish you can eat.
I love raw. And I love them "in season" but there is nothing better than a raw oyster with a squeeze of lemon and a drop of cocktail sauce on a warm summer day with a cold beer. Pretty much proof God loves us and wants us to be happy. Sorry Benjamin.
New bag. I've either done ping or Titleist for 30 years but just wanted something different. Jones is having 30% off for memorial day so for 2 bills it was pretty easy to justify.
Jones trouper 3.0
Don't love the external leg mechanism but it works well, even if the legs feel a little skinny.
Still getting used to pocket layout. Love the two valuables pouches up top. Not sure what I think of the big cooler pocket up front.
I've already yanked the 2nd strap. I like to think I'll walk some day but it's basically just to the range or the cart. And maybe 9 with my kid in the evening and it actually carries really well with a single strap.
Material feels top notch and best zippers I've had on a bag for as long as I can remember.
Really dig the minimal logos.
Only had it for one round but so far I would recommend.
No relation to RC 😅
This is the 14u team. Kind of the red headed step child of little league. But my kid, along with several others had such a horrible experience last year in 12u all stars that he was just done. Said no to fall ball, said no to travel ball. Only way I could get him playing again was to tell him I'd coach. And it's been awesome seeing the fire back in his eyes.
He's little (#00 in the pic), but he's a beast behind the dish. Caught all 115 pitches in the second game of our double header on Saturday and I couldn't have been prouder.
I know I don't have to tell anyone in this thread, but take the best sports moment you've ever witnessed in person and it can't hold a candle to watching your kid do cool things on a field or pitch or diamond or court.
Crazy year. I don't know how some of you do it coaching. I was so content just umping and taking care of the fields. But this coaching shit is like crack. Swept a double header on Saturday against the best team in the league and had a 6 run 6th last night to win by 1. I have a pretty eclectic mix of kids ranging from literally their first time playing baseball to travel kids and a no doubt varsity player some day.
Now I have to choose a team for all stars and it is killing me because I would ride or die with every single one of these kids. Even the ones that suck. But we have a 15 man roster and that's just too many to take to the post season.
