  1. Klock Electric is my go to.
  2. I really liked this. It’s not built for a modern audience with it being a slow burn but tension is through the roof at all times.
  3. No idea but a few of the Indian entries in our chili cook off were off the chain.
  4. A minimum wage above poverty level for a family of 4 should also include a minimum number of hours. Or, maybe set the hourly rate based on 30 hours per week so those part time workers can survive on their own. There are 6.4MM working poor (workers who still qualify for benefits). The average benefit is around $500/month. Take those workers off the government teat by paying a living wage and the gubment saves $3.2B annually while increasing revenue via income taxes. The savings along is probably north of $4B if you include processing and operations costs.
  5. At my current employer, I wouldn't be shocked if we have 100 H1B visas out of 500 employees in Austin. It's probably higher. At my business line's holiday lunch there were about 50 people there and only 4 of us that are for sure US citizens.
  6. 4 of my 5 direct reports are on H1B Visas. Not saying I would be fucked but I would be fucked.
  7. There was a place in Austin that had a Mexican CFS in the early 90s. Maybe I’ll remember where later.
  8. I have tickets for Thursday. Eggers may be the only new director out there worth a shit.
  9. For the first time ever yesterday, I finally noticed the line is actually “the shitter was full”. I’ve never heard anyone quote it like that. Mandela Effect.
  10. For the capital one add in, after you install it, you do nothing. If you are on Amazon or another retailer and add something to your cart, it’ll pop up and tell you if it’s cheaper (including shipping) or if there is cash back to buy through their app instead.
  11. The best one of these is the Capital One shopping app. I don’t understand the deals it gives. By using the browser extension to buy something, it’s usually 10+% cash back. i used it last week to get 30% cash back from one online retailer. They’re not marking up the prices so I guess their data shows most people don’t pay off their credit cards so even at 30% cash back, they still make money.
  12. Why do you need a marketing guy? I thought Fleshlights sold themselves.
  13. Not really surprising. Texas friendly is a facade. We are assholes.
  14. We’ve had the better QB on the field in like only 3 games this year.
  15. Well, at least we can rely on our second half offense.
  16. We went to a Mines luncheon for prospective students a while back. I love watching, from a distance, how my kids interact with peers. Everyone says she has a magnetic personality but to her parents, she just mumbles and rolls her eyes. She was just talking and all the other girls at her table were just mesmerized. They just wanted to know more about her. I told her she could start a cult at Mines and all those nerds would jump off a cliff if asked.
  17. I plan to go just ti have an excuse to go to The Alchemist brewery and have a Heady Topper straight from the teat.
  18. Colorado is #1 but she’s open to WA, OR, and VT. She’s been accepted to WSU, OSU, and now UVM.
  19. I think they offer like $9,000 as the max. She doesn't want to go there but we applied to every school in Colorado with engineering. It was actually the one school the Mac counselor thought she would be an iffy admit. I thought that was weird. I just looked at my notes from the CU scholarship call and it's $15,000 for the Presidential Award and $6,250 for Chancellor Award. The average total scholarship about is $3,800.
  20. Junior Brown has received all but one decision and is batting 1.000. She's been accepted to every school she applied to and has received merit scholarships at all of them. This week she got accepted to School of Mines ($14K/year merit) and Vermont ($19K/year merit). Only CU-Boulder is outstanding but they don't send out decisions until mid-January.
  21. I hadn't thought of that. Looks like UHC allows you to submit the claims yourself. Now I am just waiting on my doctor to provide the health summary report which has all the diagnosis and service codes I need to enter on the claim.
  22. Back in July, my doctor submitted a claim to United Healthcare for $1,700. It was denied because they said I had other primary insurance. I did not have any other insurance. I called UHC and had that issue fixed on their end and waited for them to reprocess the claim as they said they would. They didn't. For 5 months, I have called UHC to reprocess the claim and now says they have no record of denying the claim (it no longer shows up in my online account) and Ascension says they cannot resubmit for reasons. Well, Ascension finally submitted it to collections. Ascension now says they really for real can't resubmit it because it has gone to collections. Is there any way to resolve this clusterfuck?
  23. I was eating in New Braunfels today and in a booth next us was a 70-something dude in his MAGA hat. He made eye contact and said “Go Trump!” I replied “Hell Yes! I can’t wait for social security and Medicare to be eliminated next month. It’s gonna save a shitload of taxes!” He looked like he had no idea what I was talking about.
