  1. Here we go. The oldest is applying to colleges. Being a female, she needs to get out of Gilead so all Texas schools are off the table. A few things I've learned in this process which is way different than 30 years ago... 1. Go talk to your high school college counselor your freshman year. Most kids wait until they're a senior. The college counselor has relationships with many college admissions offices. They can help build a relationship with one if your kid is borderline for acceptance. We went through her list of a dozen schools and the counselor was quick to say which she was going to get into, which were iffy, and which gave money and how much. Since we tailored her list to ABET accredited engineering schools that offered the 4+1 master's program and picked schools that we felt were not a stretch, her list was pretty safe. The one school we thought would be a stretch was one the counselor thought she'd be an easy admit and one we thought was a pretty safe pick was one she thought would be iffy. I can't recommend enough going and talking to their college counselor. 2. Schools admit based on your weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. I found that counterintuitive since you can have a GPA higher than 4.0. Many schools also give merit aid on a sliding scale based on the weighted GPA. McCallum does not even put the unweighted GPA anywhere on the transcript. The counselor said that any school that cares about that will calculate their own GPA for the classes they care about and not many outside of the top 50 ranked schools will do that. 3. The Common App is simple and a beast at the same time. No other way to describe it. Let the college counselor review it before you submit to schools. 4. If you have Hispanic heritage, make sure your kid is classified as such. I'm around 20% Hispanic. Last year, I checked with the school and verified that my kid could be legitimately classified as Hispanic and was given the green light. It just took one email to change it with AISD. Last week, she got notified she was a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar. That automatically gets her the Presidential Merit Scholarship at her top pick. With her weighted GPA, she also automatically gets the top level non-resident merit scholarship. Since those two scholarships can stack, she'll be at in-state tuition before she even applies for any other scholarships. I'm sure I'll learn some more as the process moves along. The counselor is reviewing her common app today, so we will submit it this week and wait for acceptance, which should come in December.
  2. I've been pouring bleach down the drain pipe for 20+ years. I like to live dangerously.
  3. You know what will make it a fuck ton easier and make her look like she's giving a master class on executive management? Giving her the Senate and the House. Wreck fucking shop.
  4. I’ll take it at 62 and invest all of it monthly in VGT.
  5. They’re lucky those pasture parked cars aren’t filled with rodents and wasp nests.
  6. This was solid. Definitely a strong #3 in the series. I loved the world building of the WY mining colony.
  7. If they release an official Stanley, it's all over.
  8. There’s no direction on how Christianity should be taught. There’s currently nothing to stop a teacher from tearing down that bullshit in front of the class.
  9. Saw this cover years ago and forgot about it. It popped up today. It's solid.
  10. Once the vote is certified (assuming it gets that far), maybe Biden should step down so Kamala is already President before the inauguration. Basically cockblock any fuckery between certification and the inauguration.
  11. If you allow bare handed spanking of little boys, you could get a 99/1 split from those Baptist preachers.
  12. I guess we all have freedom to bring guns into the state capitol now since it's government property?
  13. I have tickets for Thursday night. Hopefully, it's a top 3 entry.
  14. I just know that every time I get asked about my citizenship at the doctor, I'm just going to say I'm illegal.
  15. The only time I used Uber at Red Rocks, the driver happened to be a former employee of the venue. He dropped me off at the handicap dropoff which is at the top of the venue. There's zero wait up there and you're on level with the merch stands and food vendors. It was much faster and easier than waiting in the long line and walking uphill for a mile at the regular entrance. I didn't think of it until right now but I wonder if you can also request an Uber for pickup in that same location. The regular Uber pickup took over an hour. If I ever used Uber there again, I would request the Uber during the last song. All that said, I would just drive. It's easy and if you're relatively quick walking to the parking lot, there's minimal wait to exit.
  16. Puddles Pity Party with Primus covering Dio. In the comments, Puddles says he didn't have time to prep so he's reading the lyrics off his phone and he kills it.
  17. Red Letter Media just released a review of it. Apparently this was finished 3+ years ago and it just sat on the shelf.
  18. I'm going to guess Luthen has an epic death in season two. He has to die for continuity reasons and Gilroy has to exceed The Monologue.
  19. Full English at Hawksmoor...
  20. Go back to Hawksmoor for their Full English breakfast. It's for two and turns every component up to 11.
  21. My habanero plant is going crazy and it looks like I will get to harvest 50+ habaneros in 2-3 weeks. I was thinking of doing a smoked habanero hot sauce similar to Marie Sharp's Smokin' Marie. Don't know my ratios yet but I was thinking...vinegar, onion, carrot, garlic, salt. I'll smoke the habaneros low with a post oak smoke. Do I need to ferment the peppers first? Other than table salsa, the only other hot sauce I make is just a chile pequin vinegar shaker salsa with just those two ingredients. School me in the way to make this successful.
