  2. There was a viral post of pictures of OK classrooms going around a week ago. If you had to guess a country based on the pics, you'd probably guess Haiti. 90% of the chairs were broken. There weren't enough chairs and a couple of kids had to sit on the floor unless they brought their own chair from home.

My BGE has been out of commission for a while because the gasket burned off during some high-heat cooking.  Seems like a bitch to replace and I've been too lazy.  Any of you have done that?

It's easy as shit. Scrap it off and clean the rim (ask your mom about the best technique).  Install this: https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Gasket-Adhesive-Large-Kevlar/dp/B004MNW1TE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523280449&sr=8-3&keywords=high+heat+gasket+big+green+egg

It takes like 15 minutes of work. I'm going on 5 years with no issues with the replacement gasket. That includes getting it well above 800 degrees.

  4. Stayed at the Royal Haciendas in Playa last year. It is absolutely a picture perfect resort. However, the food was underwhelming. There was rarely Mexican food available. Italian, Chinese, and Tony Roma style bbq were there. It was a pasty Midwesterner’s dream I’m sure.

  5. Nomura is all gone. Need to pick up some crowlers at lunch and need a backup choice.  How’s Hazed and Confused? I’m leaning that way since I’ve been drinking mainly NE IPAs lately.

  6. I like it. It’s solid. Salsa and chips are good. Tortillas are great (for Austin). I think it’s a better overall restaurant than Y Mas but if I want enchiladas, it’s Y Mas all the way.

Alright so it looks like there is quit a few that likes the Marie Sharp's. On their website they show 13 different flavors. What's the best one, the Smokin’ Marie (Special Edition)? The Smoked Habanero (Special Edition) sounds awesome. I may have to get a bottle of the Chimay and try it out as well.

Smokin’ Marie >>>> Special Edition Habanero. It’s hotter and smokier.  Seriously. Order the 3 pack from Amazon Prime. You will take one taste, and order another three bottles immediately. I have 4 in my pantry right now.

Hear all the Crestview and Allandale and leaning towards this area. Any thoughts on the above as I may be going to airport a lot and the thought of buying where the neighborhood is still changing interests me from an investment standpoint. Could create a side project and buy another house for rental if I went this direction due to cost.

I live in Allandale and fly 20-30 times a year.  It’s 15-20 minutes to the airport via Airport Blvd at anytime other than the evening when you’d be driving with  commuters.

I gotta say I love living here. Easy access to downtown and plenty of bars/restaurants within a mile of home. Neighbors are fantastic. The community in the hood and schools is phenomenal. Two acquaintances both moved from Allandale to NW Hills and were disappointed that there wasn’t the neighborhood comraderie like in Allandale. It was more suburban, leave me alone in my house.

Haze County is hit or miss.

Haze County was phenomenal at the taproom. I think I drunk posted about at the time on the old thread. Bought it in a can and it was terrible. It didn’t even look like the same beer. On tap it was a gorgeous hazy golden elixir and poured from the can it looked like diabetic piss with blood mixed in.

If you've made/bought a rack extender for your egg, use it with the stone.  You want the pizza as high as possible.  I like my BGE around 400-450 for pizza.  If I cook higher than that, then the bottom burns before the top is finished.

I've also found putting the pizza stone on top of the platesetter helps keep the stone temp down a bit.  Flame directly on the pizza stone was too much.

  11. A lot is wrong with Oklahoma right now. It wasn't this bad when I was a kid and my hometown was actually a great place to grow up. Or maybe I was just naive.

You grew up. I thought my hometown in south Texas was fantastic. Then I went to college and realized it was an utter shithole.

I am also not sure why they basically had to have a monarchy be their system of government and trial by combat being the way leadership was selected.  It seemed very odd for an advanced civilization to have such a shitty form of government.

It could’ve been clearer but it was just a tradition they continued to do but one that was understood to just be ceremonial even though it may have still been technically the law. No one was really supposed to challenge the heir...until someone did.  His sister alluded to it being pointless by asking why they couldn’t skip it and move on with the coronation.

  13. Green Flash West Coast IPA was kind of the early standard bearer for that style. In the end, it ended up being a footnote after everyone else got into IPAs. I've had a few of their beers but never thought anything was exceptional or worth even revisiting.

    3. The repercussions for losing cases or letting people walk are much more severe than putting the wrong guy in jail. A prosecutor will catch way more heat from their bosses or from political opponents if they lose cases. So might as well put someone in jail for the crime, and if they get out in 10 years because they are innocent who cares, it's never going to blow back on the prosecutors.

Our system seems to be set up for retribution instead of justice.  I don't know how we get to the point where both sides seek justice or maybe there shouldn't be sides. I don't know shit.
