The selling points would be the bag of cash that I would continue to send he and his family.

You asked what the arguments are.  I gave you some.  Not really interested in debating them individually with you... just pointing out that there are plenty of things someone who wanted to sell the program could say.  Some whiny fan on the internet is seeing things only through an emotional lens is going to poke holes regardless.  It’s on this site every day. While it’s somewhat understandable, constantly spewing negativity like all is lost isn’t helping.

so... you’re saying all is lost??

Well, you seem sad, so just to provide you with some arguments that someone who doesn’t give up so easily might use:

    1. It makes no sense to disregard the non-football selling points, those are part of the decision.  This list would be way longer...
    2. This staff is entering the 4th year, stats and draft history beyond that is irrelevant.  No person has even had the opportunity to be recruited by Herman’s staff, developed for 4 years, and drafted.  Mack Browns last years left the program with insufficient talent and then we had two coaching changes in 4 years and who knows how many coordinator changes.  Chuck Strong was the worst coach in school history.  None of those factors tell us anything about how this staff can develop players.
    3. Yancy McKnight is showing physical development results, which are measurable.
    4. Texas will always be a big name program, which provides ample opportunities to showcase your talent.
    5. The road to a national title is theoretically easier from the Big 12.
    6. The program is stocked with highly rated recruiting classes, so there is talent around you.  You won’t have to do it all yourself and iron sharpens iron.
    7. However, some positions are thin, there are opportunities for playing time.
    8. Texas has the resources to hire the best coaches and resources to promote your development.
    9. you can be part of the legacy team that helps the program turn the corner
    10. state pride and help us show that Texas HS football has the best players
    11. In 2018, we won the Sugar Bowl.  This year we’ve been plagued by injuries.  The program is generally on an upward trend.
    12. We feel our coaching can be improved, so we’re making changes at coordinators and some position coaches to go hire the best.
    13. sure some programs are already functioning at a higher level, but they can only play so many people at once.
    14. Smaller schools don’t maximize your exposure

6 or 7 of those are very solid points. Hopefully a 17-18 year old would be dumb enough to believe the rest.

Which of those points aren’t valid? The only part I’d disagree with is in #2, talking about “who knows how many coordinator/position coach changes.” The truth is kind of the opposite on that. The problem is that there weren’t enough changes, but that leads into the related point about us (hopefully) now going to get the best ones.

Your not building a rocket engine. There isn't a schematic. If we get better coordinators and they're allowed to do their jobs, and we get deep enough that the injuries aren't as lethal to a season, we're a 10+ win program. I'll agree that the HC needs to mature a little. Seasons like this one should be learning experiences for him. If you can't celebrate a great kid who is also a great athlete, picking our university over many others, then I'm probably wasting my time.

I was referring to multiple changes in offensive coordinators in the years during and around Strong where players had to learn a totally new system each year, which over time would have a negative impact on draft picks from Texas.  Obviously, it would have been better to have a great system and stick to it and, since we had a bad system, it needed to change.  However, there is a cost to that change, in that most players had to learn a new system and come didn't fit the new system each time a change was made and either transferred or faded into the background.  One net result of many years of consecutive system changes is that you can expect that the number of draft picks during that time would be lower.

I am not arguing whether or not the changes should have been made - I am just pointing out that constant system change (especially due to poor performance) was a contributor to a lower number of draft picks.  Additionally, just because the program went through turmoil from 2010 - 2016, doesn't mean in itself that the program will continue to endure turmoil.  If we do continue to do so, it will be because of the performance of the current coaching staff and players.

Rojo, Bijan, Whittington (fingers crossed), and Ingram, we're in damn good shape. This just made the OC's job much easier. Smith, Eagles, Washington, and even Kennedy on the outside, it would take a total retard not named Herman/Beck to fuck that up.

I've seen this mentioned also, and his only real competition would be Smith, so it's a definite possibility, I'd imagine. He's a Swiss army knife, so you can't go wrong.
