  1. Doesn't Colt McCoy still hold the school record for interceptions, when he was a sophomore? Then he was a two-time Heisman finalist. What you're saying about the comparison between Quinn and Penix tonight isn't wrong. But it is comparing a finished product with a halfway-finished product.
  2. I randomly picked another USC Heisman winning QB- Matt Leinhart. He doesn’t have any stats from his freshman year because he didn’t play. Hmmmm. It’s almost like True Frosh stud QB’s aren’t really a thing.
  3. He got the monkey off his back tonight. I think he deserved the criticism, but he stepped his game up and had an All-World performance in the toughest of situations. If he keeps this up and our receivers start catching everything, he's in the running for the Heisman.
  4. people keep referencing this, but it’s a disingenuous comparison. colt’s sophomore year was an outlier (he was coming off a neck injury and he lost his nfl o-line from his freshman year, plus his team was arguably worse than the year prior, as opposed to his team being far better as is the case with QE) and more importantly, Colt was placed *second* in the rocky mountain news headman poll when he got hurt as a freshman. colt was arguably (definitely?) more polished as a redshirt frosh than QE is right now, he just never had QE’s hype or physical skills. footwork, timing, accuracy, pocket presence, mastery of the offense, and so on and so forth, they all go in Colt’s favor. so whereas Colt took a step *down* in season two at Texas for various reasons, QE has taken a giant leap forward this year, and yet we keep comparing their two seasons as if it indicates that they’re on the same track, when they’re really not. colt as a freshman: looked to be a heisman finalist before going down as a sophomore: outlier year coming off injury and playing behind an inferior OL as a junior: all american heisman finalist as a senior: all american heisman finalist one QB played at a heisman level as freshman and outside of his sophomore year maintained that level of play. the other QB has never looked like a heisman contender and still has lots of work to go before he is Colt’s equal in pretty much everything that isn’t arm talent. i think we should tap the brakes on this comp. all it’s really showing is that the worst version of colt looked pretty similar on paper to the best version of QE.
  5. if he’s a heisman candidate at the beginning of next year it’s because he’s the QB at Texas, because he’s hyped up his whole life, and because his coach and his teammates make his stats look a lot better than his actual performance. does he actually deserve to be a heisman candidate? in a word, no. where does he rank among his own team’s best players? maybe top 10? maybe outside the top 10? point is, any heisman talk is fan and media BS. quinn ewers has not been leading his team to victory week and week out, he’s mostly been an inconsistent piece of a puzzle that has some truly all american/award worth badasses and a QB genius HC and play caller who has tailored an offense to QE’s strengths and weaknesses. i can name a dozen games off the top of my head where VY or Colt led us to victory and were the difference in winning and losing. that’s not what Quinn does for this team. never has been.
  6. Awhile back (maybe preseason) I saw on another website that of Big 12 QBs last year Texas averaged 2.72 seconds to throw. Lowest in the conference. Is that a positive or a negative? This year QE averages 2.47. Card 2.79. And since you are thirsty for knowledge Heisman winner Bryce is at 3.00 this year.
  7. Wait wait wait. So your contention is Quinn is mediocre, Arch might already be better so they should have an open competition that Quinn might lose, and also Quinn will definitely be a top 10 QB nationally next year and might contend for the Heisman? How the fuck does that make any sense?!?!?!?
  8. I’d like to go all texags permaban style on any and all assholes that called for Ewers to be benched and or Murphy to get reps. Haha. Jk, but seriously, fuck you guys. I hope this is just the beginning for Ewers and we ride him to a playoff with a heisman trophy. That’s a lot of kool aid but a man can dream.
  9. Yep. His last 3 quarters against Iowa state were pretty good too. Those 4 quarters in a row were Heisman finalists and 1/1 in 25 nfl draft territory. I would suspect as an experienced upper class man he will look like that way more often than not.
  10. Ewers had an all-world rating coming into college, which was 3 years ago. This WR class and offensive starters was considered the best UT had in decades. Ewers was rated by all the press in pre- and early season as a Heisman shortlist candidate. People need to begrudgingly acknowledge that by all those standards he's well behind.
  11. year 1 learning at the greatest qb factory in america. year 2 starter for a supposed “qb whisperer” year 3 with supposedly the best wr corp since Roy-Sloan-BJ….he should be neck to neck with Caleb Williams in the heisman discussion, not having internet folks scrutinizing his footwork and wondering if he’s afraid of contact.
  12. he’s a talented but inconsistent QB who has pretty good stats thanks in large part to his outstanding supporting cast of players and coaches. he’s probably not one of the 10 best players on his own team, his accuracy, footwork, and pocket presence have all been issues for two seasons now, and yet this thread is full of people talking about the heisman and calling him a Longhorn legend. whenever people push back on these takes people like you bombasticize their responses and allude to them being stupid haters who just want to be miserable. im sorry, but it is not overly critical to push back on the idea that QE is some legendary, future heisman contending, “very good” QB. it’s just a differing opinion.
  13. 2021 Stetson Bennett finished 176 rating, 14-1 record (won ncg)…wasnt even in top 10 of heisman votes. 2020 Spencer Rattler…Justin Fields…not finalists You gotta put up big ass numbers (TDs), show flashy wheels, or go undefeated, if youre competing against dudes with playstation stats
  14. You are going to come on here and admit you were wrong and I’m right when he’s too 5 heisman and too 5 in the draft next year right? Right? seriously man, if you can’t see that as super likely trajectory right now it’s because you’ve dug in, made up your mind and aren’t ready to change it.
  15. Also, while its fun to make fun of the “mental midget” from Allen….he was the most decorated high school player of all time, won the heisman in his first year as a starter, took NFL rookie of the year the following year, and then stacked 2 consecutive Pro Bowls afterwards — 1 year in which he accounted for 37 touchdowns.
  16. You literally just said you were referring to "one guy". Is THAT your definition of referring to "one guy"? It's your fucking quote! "this thread is full of people talking about the heisman and calling him a Longhorn legend". Your desire to start shit exceeds mine by an order of magnitude. I wish the best for you, but man, you make it really hard sometimes.
  17. he’s going to return and he’s going to be better than he was this season. the only question is will he be a very good QB (top 10 nationally) or an elite, heisman candidate QB. i have stated that i think that Arch will be better faster than QE, but as you’ve said, only a fool wouldn’t be extremely happy with the prospect of QE returning for another season as the starter.
  18. Wut? If he comes back for his senior season we beat Ohio state again, we mud hole Oklahoma, we dog walk Alabama for back to back titles and he most certainly wins the heisman. He goes 1,1 if he comes back for another year. Bad take and you should feel bad. Haha jk but seriously.
  19. It's just so hard to win it twice. 3 of the top 5 Heisman candidates are in the Pac 12. The Pac 12 is so deep at the top end I don't see how any of Oregon, USC, or Washington finish undefeated. If Texas somehow finishes the season without losing, and Quinn puts up the stats he is on pace to put up, there is no way Quinn loses.
  20. Going down just the past 5 Heisman winners: Bryce Young- didn’t Play as a true frosh Joe Burrow- didn’t play anything but backup his first 3 years. In his 4th year, after a transfer- he had a 133 QB rating. (Evers is 131 btw) kyler Murray- as a true frosh had a 109 passer rating sun 60 completion percentage 5 TD’s 7 INT’s baker mayfield- 128 passer rating higher completion percentage than Quinn every other stat is worse Lamar Jackson- 127 passer rating So- Ewers has better numbers than 4 of the last 5 Heisman winning QB’s while Bama’s guy shot all over him. He had a true RS season and was plugged into the greatest juggernaut college football has ever seen. If you want to look at all those numbers along with Sam’s,Colts, and VY’s and say it’s prima facia evidence Quinn can’t be the guy maybe you should take a step back and fuck your own face for being a mouth breathing moron. None of this is me arguing Quinn will be great- that depends upon his desire and willingness to get better- but his numbers compare favorably with Heisman trophy winning guys in their freshman year and his ability to make impressive throws should be beyond dispute
  21. Lighten up francis gif, all I was saying was greg davis offenses put up a metric fuck ton of points and stats. I would take it again in a heartbeat. We aren't this juggernaut historically that just wins conference championships, heismans, thorpe awards, or national championships. I was simply stating that what Sark is doing currently is fine with me, ugly or not lol.
  22. popular/reputable outlets have had him in their shortlist: sbnation, sports illustrated, and nfl.com vegas oddsmaker placed him anywhere from 3-5 early in the season: betmgm, fansduel, caesars in this thread, there have been people non-sarcastically flagging him for heisman people here and elsewhere have predicted it, but he's steadily fallen off from those predictions as the season progressed.
  23. Quinn is 6-2 as a starter this year, throw out Bama for him or Card. Caleb Williams last year....giving him the Texas game. 6-2 as a starter with I think what we would all agree was a more complete offense (and especially OLine) around hiim. That guy is winning the Heisman more than likely this year. It's not all been lollipops and sunshine, but it's not some debacle of horrific results for a freshman.
  24. come on, man... QBs don't develop as fast as WRs, RBs, or DTs. Compare QB, CB, LB, and OL on a development timeline and you'll see almost all of our guys are on time. He looks like a 2nd year QB starter that has injured both shoulders. who is predicting him as a heisman? why are you angry that we finally have a good QB that isn't playing FB at the same time?
  25. I generally agree with most of your post. But I wonder about Quinn declaring for the NFL next season. IMO, he would likely need a Heisman-like season to make going to the NFL worth it. Basically he needs to be a projected 1st round pick, otherwise it probably isn't worth it (from a financial standpoint). I could see a possible scenario where coming back to play in the 2024 season benefits Ewers.
