  1. I think many of what the “insiders” were telling us was that QE never intended to stay past the 2023 season. He was going pro. Until injuries, inconsistent play and other QBs moving up on the draft board in front of him. He went from being touted as the best or one of the top 3 QBs in college and surely a first round QB to both of those not being the case. Hence why his camp was floating he might come back. Sark and the staff were aware of the QE not coming back for 2024 stuff for a while. Hell QE all but telegraphed it by the moves he has made since high school. He and his family were probably gobsmacked by the reality that he’s probably 5th QB taken in the draft and first round maybe not a guarantee. And shit I’d take that all day. Because you re likely to go to a better team with better owner, management and head coach. But if you just want the first round notoriety and the big time initial contract then by all means next year he is a shoe in. But I also think he wants a championship and real shot at the Heisman. Neither of those things are guaranteed. I just read a ton of articles and most have QE as late first round or second round pick. I tend to see those as accurate depending on the person writing. So most all of us and the staff thought this was QE’s last year. That Arch and possibly Maalik would compete in the spring. Or that Maalik would portal as Arch would be the front runner. No idea. But most people thought QE would be declaring for the draft right now. That’s the truth.
  2. I think there’s a bit of misunderstanding about sark’s offense. If you look back at history of Sark as an OC and HC he always makes the rb’s look really good but not all the qb’s he’s had put up impressive numbers. He’s had a 1k yard rusher every year he’s been a head coach. Jake locker, Keith Price, Casey Thompson and Hudson card did not set the world on fire. Bishop sankey, Chris Polk, javorius Allen, and now Jonathan brooks put up great numbers because sark’s offense attacks the run. That history still has people running that 3-3-5 against Quinn, even with all the guys on here saying he’s inaccurate, he can’t read defenses, his pocket presence is awful, etc. If defenses decided to give Quinn the looks that Maalik got he would put up “video game” numbers and win a heisman. Shit if we had a wr like Burton, Luther from Missouri, that kid from Florida state, Harrison jr or nabers then Quinn would have better numbers. Mitchell is good but he’s soft, worthy is not a 50/50 guy, and Whittington isn’t blowing the top off a defense. All our so called threats are dangerous as long as our qb gets the ball in a good spot, if not then they kind of disappear. Those other guys I watch go make play for their qb routinely. McCord is a shitty qb but Harrison bails his ass out A LOT. I have no idea who the Missouri qb is lol.
  3. another thing that people don’t want to admit is that quinn has a ton of teammates who have developed and gotten better at a much faster rate than he has. sark and co. have done a tremendous job of developing talent. if you come here, you get better, year over year. just like earlier when i pointed out that QE is arguably not one of the 10 best players on this team (his ceiling is probably no.9), but he’s also not one of the more quickly developing players either. look at how many guys from sark’s first team have developed into monsters who will be named to all conference and all america teams. we bring in 4 and 5* talent and we develop them into beasts. and then you have Quinn, the highest rated of them all, with the QB whisperer as his coach, and while he is no doubt improving, he still is an inconsistent player who makes the same mistakes/has the same issues as he’s always had, namely with footwork, pocket presence, and accuracy. i can’t count the number of teammates QE has who’ve lapped him in terms of growth. all of this is to say that we have one player on this team who in reality is not one of the team’s top players in terms of on field play as well as development and growth, and yet this thread and this fam base want to call him a legend, talk about the heisman, predict future nfl success, and claim that he’s just as good all those other QBs out there who are out performing both statistically and on tape. this QB hero worship at Texas is a tradition that for whatever reason our fan base loves to practice. i’m glad we have QE; he’s a good qb; but y’all make him out to be football jesus, and that’s wild.
  4. 1. Quinn makes NFL throws with regularity, 15 yard outs and comebacks. Most college teams don’t run plays like that because QBs can’t make those throws consistently at this level at Quinn just dimes em. Quinn also shows an uncanny ability to drop perfect passes between the layers of a zone defense, which is a highly coveted skill for a QB in the NFL. 2. You’re making too much of the talent around Quinn. Worthy is an electric player, but he has inconsistent hands and can’t track a deep ball to save his life. Mitchell has a great catch radius and makes good adjustments to the ball, but he isn’t a physical player and he tends to disappear for large sections of games due to loafing. Sanders is just an incredible TE, but he’s been injured a lot this year. This offense is talented, but it’s not like they’re carrying Quinn. 3. Quinn has improved dramatically from last year to this year by any metric and saying otherwise is absurdly stupid. 4. One freshman QB has won a Heisman and a natty. One. Most freshman and sophomore QBs don’t play very well at all. Wanna know what Joe Burrow’s redshirt sophomore stats were? 7-11 for 61 yards and no TDs. RS junior year? 219-379, 16 TDs, 5 picks, 133.2 rating. That’s a guy two years older than Quinn throwing to future first round picks at WR. Quinn is better than Joe Burrow was at that stage while being younger. 5. Quinn’s not perfect, but he’s a lot better than you’re giving him credit for. You deserve the raft of shit you’re getting for your awful take.
  5. Arch Manning’s “people” which include two SB winning QBs and a grandfather who just happens to run a prestigious QB camp told him to play his senior year of HS. Told him to play all four years of college before going pro. Wanted him to sit and learn his freshman year of college and to stay and graduate and also to play his whole time here. To learn under Sark. Quinn’s people (or QE makes all his own decisions) told him against Ohio State’s advice to not play his senior year of high school, and to allegedly leave early for the NFL. If we were talking about any other position but QB, either approach could be the right one. Now with NIL kids don’t have to leave early to get paid. QE is making money. We know he’s talented but now he’s been injured three times since his junior year of HS where he has missed and possibly will miss a few games. At the start of the season he was a top 3 QB. Now many of the mock drafts I see online have him not only after Maye and Caleb. They also have him after Penix and McCarthy. If he misses significant time (we all hope not) and we don’t make the CCG and CFP this year, there will be more hype for the QBs that are in it and eyeballs on them. He’s already out of the running for a Heisman as is Caleb who probably regrets he stayed his final year but he’ll be compensated as a number 1 pick. TLDR: I think Arch’s people are giving him better advice than Quinn’s people and Arch’s people actually know what the fuck they are talking about and have the receipts to back it up.
  6. Chris Simms was the #1 player in the country coming out of high school. He was very similar to Arch Manning in a lot of ways given his family pedigree and skills. If Mack had done with Simms what we are doing with Arch, everything would have been so much better. Imagine the following: 1998 - Major Applewhite starts while Ricky wins Heisman 1999 - Major Applewhite starts and earns Big 12 Offensive PoY. Chris Simms redshirts 2000 - Major Applewhite starts. Simms gets mop up duty instead of splitting 1/3 the stats. Same 9-3 record but both QBs keep confidence. 2001 - Major Applewhite starts. We still barely lose to OU, but this time we beat Colorado and play Miami for the title. Simms gets a lot of run since we had nine blowouts. Major Applewhite graduates with two Big-12 titles and a National Title appearance. 2002 - Chris Simms starts as a RS-JR - Maybe a more confident Simms improves on our 11-2 record, we beat Tech and play for another title? 2003 - Chris Simms starts as a RS-SR - There is no Vince Young vs. Chance Mock debate. Instead Vince backs up Simms and gets plenty of mop-up time. At this point Simms was a great QB. No way we lose to Arkansas. Instead of 10-3, we go 11-2 or 12-1 and likely win another BCS bowl. 2004 - Vince Young starts Those teams were absolutely loaded and the QB mismanagement cost us at least one trip to the MNC game, maybe two.
  7. I am glad we have Quinn, but I also remember Heisman rumbles early in the season. He looks great at times, and as has been mentioned many times, has learned to throw the ball away. The sort of things players learn after a year and a half as a starter. But if I am being honest, flashes of brilliance are not why you take an early pick on a QB in the NFL. Look at Quinn's TCU games the last two years. Would you draft him off of those specific performances? Last year obviously a big No, this year? A great half, followed by a 3 point 49 yard field goal? I would also worry about Quinn's size and durability if I am an NFL manager. The one thing I was sort of surprised about is that unlike so many of our QB's Quinn has not gotten bigger and packed on the muscle that will help his durability. He reminds me a lot of Shane Buechele except a little smaller (and playing behind a decent OL). So there is certainly a path for Quinn to the NFL. I will give Quinn a little breather room coming off and injury, for his performance against TCU. But the bottom line is, putting up 3 points in a half as an elite top flight QB, is not exactly confidence building, especially from and NFL perspective. Now if Quinn comes out and lights the world on fire the next two weeks and kicks ass in the bowl (praying for Playoff here) game, then he can raise his stock. But right now I look at him as a very talented not too durable. It also might also be useful to remember that Quinn was expected to push CJ Stroud out as the starter at Ohio State. All that being said I think somebody in the NFL will draft him this year. I am still uncertain that he truly bleeds burnt orange, which is the main reason a player would return. I think he has matured and realized what a great opportunity he has here at Texas. But is that a respect for the program and a desire to better his future? Or has he fallen in love with the place? I hope it's the latter as much as the former, but I don't think anyone knows the real answer here. I just want us to have a QB that can lead us not only in the first half, but in the second half as well to step on the neck of the opponent. Quinn has an opportunity to show us this killer instinct this weekend.
  8. I personally hope like hell Quinn comes back, as it would be best for his long term career. I would love to see him adding a little weight (muscle) to his frame. He needed to lose weight for quickness and endurance last off season, and I think another season at UT would help his long term prospects. That being said, the kids got a great arm and would be a great backup in the NFL. But if he wants a fast track to actually being a starter? Another year in burnt orange is a no brainer to me. NIL helps a lot in all likelihood, in allowing some flexibility on this decision. I think add 10 pounds of muscle, stay healthy, and play to his potential, and I don't see how he's not on the Heisman short list? What experience brings is consistency, and while Quinn has gone through 3 spring trainings (1 at OSU) and is finishing off his second year as a starter consistency is pretty much the only criticism. I do think that NIL brings out more boobirds, which were already there to begin with. But in both the Alabama and Tech game we saw what the top end of Ewers potential is. And lucky for us it's really fucking high. I must admit, I had hoped for more consistent consistency. I also realize injury has hobbled him. But I am also concerned he may have played dinged and gotten himself into worse trouble? That's what I thought at the time. But I can't crap on a kid wanting to finish out a game, it's what all competitors want to do. My dream is that Quinn is healthy, plays another lights out game this weekend crushing Okie State, and we actually get a shot at playing two more games (prayers, fingers crossed, deals with the devil entertained). The only way that happens is if Quinn puts on a show!!! I know he can do it, and if we can keep our defense fresh I think we can get some style points in the Championship game (prayers, fingers crossed, deals with the devil entertained). If my prayers are answered it will be Ewers largely writing the sermon. You have to think last week's game has given Ewers additional confidence, and likely made the whole team even more confident. IMHO Ewers having a fantastic game is probably the most important style point, we can have beyond a lopsided score to get into the big dance. Everything seems to be coming together at the right time as far as opportunity. Now it's just time to go out there and fucking take it! Hook'em The only downside to my dream scenario is we likely lose Quinn. But that is a price I am willing to pay. ((prayers, fingers crossed, deals with the devil entertained)
