  1. This would put Trump and his minions on the actual moral and correct side of the law if they were to engage in a Civil War after this happened. Lincoln also did the equivalent of putting the Fox News organization in jail, or at least shutting down their operations during the war. Lincoln absolutely violated the constitution in a number of fundamental and abhorrent ways. We can’t devolve to a scenario where we are doing things just as constitutionally inappropriate as he did, or Trump does now, because, “our team.”. “Because it helps my side” is not a reason to do unconstitutional things. I am not a serious student of Lincoln, but I have never run across anything that led me to believe that Lincoln’s several unconstitutional executive orders during the Civil War was key to our winning that war. It certainly drove some Lincoln supporters into Lincoln opponents because of him doing that I don’t think those are options we need to consider. Every one of us sitting here bitching about this needs to track down 10 non-registered people and get them to vote - and have each of them track down people and get them to register to vote. And then we all vote the fuck stick away from politics for the rest of his life, and his followers will give up and go away without him as a figurehead. If not, in another 10 or 15 years, most of them will be dead.
  2. There was a simple solution to this issue and Derka chose to set fire to everything instead. That puts the mods in a no win situation at that point, so here we are with another in the long list of Derka threads. This is iteration # who knows at this point of this same/similar thread. Every so often things with Derka come to a head and we get this and he takes some time off and usually comes back better. It’s a problem and puts the site owners in a weird predicament that I would not want to deal with either. I like Derka as a poster, but I don’t engage with him any more. If you don’t agree with him then it quickly goes off the rails and turns into an everyone is against me discussion and everyone else is an idiot. It’s pretty easy to just skip on by. For those on team Derka, maybe spend a little less time arguing with Imma and a little more time explaining to Derka how sometimes you just have to do what you’re told by those in charge to get by. Saying all of that, the discussion in this thread and the number of people that always end up posting in it prove how much value Derka brings/has brought to the community. There are very few other posters that are going to get this many pages of discussion on their exit and it will be a net loss if he is gone. Derka needs to work his shit out with imma, take a break, and then he should be allowed back. Maybe ban him for a month every 6 months or so to give him a chance to reset.
  3. I'll go all the way to the other side. We MUST defeat Trump in November and THEN lock him up. If the latter happens first, it will give his team everything they need to win the election. Martyrdom is fucking powerful. That's why it's so incredibly important that the courts dot every i and cross every t.
  4. If we all agreed about everything message boards would be a dull and empty place. And to be clear, I don't think it's reasonable to consider whether Terry should be fired right now. I think a legitimate discussion - as far as message boards go, that is - can be made whether he will be fired in the future or keep his job until he retires, but heck, there aren't many coaches at Texas who get to do that. Even some of the very best ones. You not only have to win at a high level to keep your job. You have to keep winning at a high level. David Pierce has been practically under the gun since that debacle of a hiring process where we got 4 or 5 coaches significant raises at their current job. Probably the worst coaching search I've ever seen conducted at Texas in my lifetime for a sport that should be a slam dunk. That's just not the CDC way. He identifies his target and then gets them. He had his hands tied with Rodney Terry in what I find completely understandable ways. I understand that baseball has a richer tradition at Texas, and frankly there's no reason not to have the best coaches in the country want to take this job, but the truth is college basketball is more prestigious and higher profile. There's no reason why Texas can't be elite in every sport it fields, which is not something that any other school can say. It just takes the right coach. And we've shown if we don't have the right coach we'll keep firing people until we find them.
  5. Muss also has a coaching style that does not sit well with Arkansas fans......he is the type that will fuck off the regular seasons with the idea in mind of "finding the rotation that works by the end of the regular season".....and then get into the conference tournament and (hopefully) the NCAAs with a team that has some rested players, a line up that he finally has decided to go with and then they try and make a run.......I think Texas fans might recognize the same things with Pierce in Baseball that shit is not how you fill a 19,000 seat arena and not how you build wild fan support and have things like "Barnhill South"......you can get away with that when you are making the elite 8 or even the sweet 16 and bringing back a lot of the core group......but just like with Texas Baseball there is a demand to win week in and week out and of course to make the post season and advance......and just like with Texas Baseball if you miss the post season or you do not advance well into the tournament a lot of questions arise about why there is not better player depth, more focusnessness on winning all season long, and how long can we sustain this
  6. What the hell is going on in here? How are we somehow arguing about two awesome catches in one of the biggest wins of the last 20 years?
  7. Again, I started this thread, but RT has earned the right to be Texas' coach at this point. Four tournament wins in two years is above the norm for Texas. Likewise, he's going to have to lose the job, which he has not done at this point. We can speculate on his credentials all we want, but he's going to have to underachieve enough to get fired. Again, this has not happened. @shadow_operative, we understand (and agree) that he would not have been hired under a normal coaching search, but that's a moot point. RT has his work cut out for him in 2024-2025. Let's see what happens. The true build starts now.
  8. the RT martyrdom posts are impossible to take seriously because we endured six years of shaka here, and people here *hated* his tactics, his style, his fake persona, his lack of tourney wins, etc, and people passionately wanted him fired for years. the things that people said and felt about shaka were a million times worse than anything that anyone has said or feels about RT. nobody is rooting for Texas to lose. nobody has even been particularly harsh on RT. every single argument that’s been made against him being our coach has been based on his career resume. the horns down shit was embarrassing as well. but as far as coaches in RT’s position (plenty of the fan base not having faith that he’s the answer) go i can say for a fact that he’s been treated more fairly and less harshly than any other coach in UT message board history. the idea that anyone is rooting against Texas so that we’ll dump RT is totally baseless. it’s a joke.
  9. 'splain. I don't want war - ever. I'm a pacifist at heart. And spare me the "the US isn't innocent" bullshit, but Russia openly attacked and plans to completely consume an ally and now member of NATO. we are compelled to do something and I am in favor of doing everything short of sending our men and women over there. So fuck yeah, throw money at the problem because if there is any nation in the world that can afford it, it's us. but quit with the piecemeal shit - send everything Ukraine needs to win and send it now. we could literally see Putin's regime toppled in our lifetimes if we armed Ukraine (and maybe a few other territories wanting independence) properly. Give them our toys and let them go to town. I simply don't see how any of that is bad for us. Quite the opposite from everything I can tell.
  10. If someone had told me in August we'd take eight points off of City and Liverpool, I'd have said no way. But here we are. Liverpool are the favorites at this point; we have to win out (hard away matches left mixed with a few banana peel home matches) and hope they slip once. Drop any points and then they have to slip twice (unlikely). I still have a fear that we're going to badly regret dropping five points to Fullham (we're top right now on GD if we don't concede to 10-man Fullham.) But still. The 4th quarter has started. Everyone is holding four fingers aloft. We've given ourselves a chance. Lets. Fucking. Go.
  11. I agree and am not trying to shift blame. Just from a voter statistical analysis standpoint...we know and can predict how those other two slices will behave now and forever. It's not rocket surgery. It's existed for centuries. I want to know why otherwise normal and somewhat educated people go for him. When a shitbag like Trump can win over people like that, that's how evil empires are built. He'll be gone soon enough, but somebody much, much smarter is going to steal his playbook and do this way, way better. Nobody can take a day off.
  12. Literally nobody was thrilled with the hire of RT. Literally nobody is currently thrilled with him. Literally everybody knows that we can do better. The only argument is whether there is any chance we fire him anytime soon. I personally don’t think there is. He would have to win only like 10 games next year to be fired - and he isn’t going to. We are going to sign a very good haul in the portal to go with our excellent HS class and win 20+ games again. And honestly my take is the most doom and gloom take you can have. Thinking we are going to suck isn’t doom and gloom. It is actually an optimistic take because there is hope we can hire an elite coach. My “good but not great” take is the worst case scenario because we may not move on for 6-8 years.
  13. greg mcdermott: •is 60 years old •has spent his entire life in the midwest •has been a college HC for 30 years, 23 of them in D-1 •has made the tourney 12 times •went 59-68 (18-46) at iowa state •has two career conference titles (one MVC title, one big east co-title) •has a .630 career win % •has a 10-12 tourney record •made his first ever S16 in 2021 •isn’t leaving creighton •is not who we should be going after
  14. I just want us to win and have the best team on the field. I’m not trying to win the internets here. I will give credit where credit is due. Ronel’s no-hitter last night is a feather in Dana’s cap. I just hope we get the reinforcements to our pitching staff that Dana is banking on in terms of a return to form for Javier and Framber, a return from injury for Garcia and McCullers, and the bullpen gelling with the spare parts in middle relief that’s been assembled. A lot has to go right for that to happen. I hope that it does.
  15. I think the big issue with these top transfers and what we have returning is convincing them to play a smaller role. Somebody like Spear is not going to get 30 minutes a game at Texas with all the talent we have. Do you want to sacrifice in order to win?
  16. If the good guys win and MAGA is defeated, and our national politics return to some semblance of normalcy (a huge if), it's going to be absolutely insane to look back on Trump years from now. If we lose shit will just get worse, though perhaps never quite as bizarre as the Trump era. Either way, there are going to be a shitload of Trump movies and shows coming out for years.
  17. We have a billion options at the 3-5. So many options that we will likely lose a player or 2. The key is PG and SG. Harmon (coming back from a major injury), Lee (#8 recruit but a FR), Preston (top 50 recruit but a FR), Maul (only a FR but didn't really flash this year), and Codio (hasn't played at all). Lee is going to be really good but they need to find another legit guard to pair with Harmon. This team can win it all next year with another good guard.
  18. Hey @BigOrange1, do we know what the payouts are going to be? I'm gonna go ahead and start spending my winnings now since we know Purdue will beat UConn in the final.
  19. I think we will be a completely different team next year once Harmon is back, add #8 recruit in Lee at guard, and likely a transfer. We had to essentially abandon Vic's style of play this year (i.e. full court press) because we didn't have the athleticism at guard. I think it's what makes this season kind of incredible. Vic had to completely change his system without Rori and then somehow found a way to win with a PF at PG. I bet we are going to be much more of a full court press team next year if we can stay healthy.
  20. I see you haven't watched South Carolina. They win games by going really big and destroying teams on the offensive boards/points in the paint. This team is a mirror image of South Carolina when we have Harmon to fill the Paopao role from South Carolina.
  21. I mean - it's a very relevant topic considering we're joining the conference next season. I never said that or thought that. I just think Texas is going to need to do a bit more than go 2/3 against the B12 this season to make any noise at all in the postseason. The conference is pretty clearly down. "Ranked" OU just got swept by fucking Lamar. I think we should all be able to agree that Texas needs to be better and more consistent from here on out than we have been. In the series win against Tech we gave up 7 runs every game. In this series we weren't competitive in one of the games. We lost a game at home to a shitass Baylor team. I'm glad they're scrapping and staying alive and taking advantage of a bad conference - but they're going to need to do more to have any hope of making a run this season. Also, hook em. Definitely enjoyed that one today. Especially going yard back to back on the 2nd coming of Mariano.
  22. Fuck those mouthbreather homer announcers who lose a series and keep mentioning their "blowout win" when we blew their shitty asses out for more runs yesterday! Go to Hell Forever, fuckstick-state!
  23. Huge win for the team. These last 2 games were gut check games and they rose to the occasion. Credit to them. We have two very easy opponents in the next two series. If we can go 5-1 against BYU and Houston then maybe this season isnt dead yet.
  24. PHOENIX — This winter, Kari Lake was facing a daunting reality: The voters who rejected her in her 2022 run for governor could now jeopardize her entire political future. If Lake — “Trump in heels,” as she has referred to herself — didn’t begin to quickly change the minds of those she had shunned or ridiculed, she could lose, again, in her 2024 Senate bid. “I have never thought of myself as divisive. But it’s not enough for ME to believe that. I need to prove it,” Lake wrote in a social media post in December, acknowledging the need to step away from her tendencies to make incendiary comments and broaden her appeal. Do you have a news tip? Let us know But with just over seven months until the election, several key Arizona Republicans tell NBC News that they believe Lake’s campaign is facing an increasingly uphill battle. “What I hear is, everybody has just resigned themselves that we’re going to be stuck with a Ruben Gallego — that’s what I hear from all the major players, the big-money people,” Shiree Verdone, a longtime GOP fundraiser in Arizona, said, referring to Lake’s Democratic Senate opponent. “I haven’t heard anyone say, ‘Kari Lake is going to win.’” Lake continues to deny that Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, tweeting this month about President Joe Biden: “81 million votes, my a--.” She continues to call her 2022 election loss “a sham,” promotes right-wing provocateurs like Laura Loomer, and hosts fundraising events with controversial political figures like Roger Stone at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. Since launching her Senate bid, Lake has set up meetings to mend relationships with other Republicans she cast aside during her run for governor, like Kathy Petsas, a former local party chair in Lake’s home legislative district. Lake’s campaign tweeted at her in 2022: “Kathy, You’re exactly the type of demographic that we feel no need to appeal to.” “I don’t know one person that she’s gotten on her side of the people who she offended,” Petsas said, suggesting Lake’s overtures have fallen flat. “There’s nobody from my circle that she’s gained, and she’s even alienated some previous supporters, too, who I know.”
  25. IT notes. Texas Football practices on Friday so Steve Sarkisian could allow his program to have the holiday weekend off. That through our schedule off just a hair while we were awaiting information stemming from practice No. 6. Overall practice was good with a lot more "live" periods than they were running in the first five practices. That meant there was plenty of tackling. Tackling is always weird because you want to keep guys up as much as you can. "They hadn't really tackled since January." Tackling was rusty with lots of missed tackles, though that will be ironed out with some focus on fundamentals. They worked on red zone with Sark going against PK on the headsets. Offense one on both ends, one with the 1s and 2s and the other with the 3s and 4s. (Not sure who the coaches were on the 3s and 4s side of the field) Overall it was an active, good energy, just have to tighten up tackling but that happens everywhere. Back to fundamentals. This is almost entirely sourced even the non-quoted parts. Quarterback Confidence. The amount of reps that Quinn Ewers has gotten and his overall experience has led to confidence in himself and in the offense. He knows what to do and what everyone else is supposed to do. He's not "thinking," playing is becoming second nature. Competitive room. Quinn can't afford to have bad days because Arch is right behind him. Running Back A lot of energy with Choice, a lot of speed and talent. There's not a 'set guy' like Bijan. Competitive between CR4 and Blue but even the young freshman are good and more ready to play. Freshman aren't busting or missing assignments. Tight End The room lacks great depth but the first four are pretty good (Gunnar Helm, Juan Davis, Amari Niblack, Jordan Washington). "Washington isn't there yet but he will be, probably as soon as fall camp." Spencer Shannon and Will Randle are coming along. Offensive Line "That room has a lot of experience. It's a mature group. They're doing a great job communicating." Neto Umeozulu hasn't surpassed Hayden Conner. They've had Conner working at center. The coaches really like their guards, including Neto and Cole Hutson. Cam Williams is moving well, you can really see it on screen passes. He's quicker than he was a year ago. Wide Receiver Depth and talent is what stands out here. Ryan Wingo had a big run on a reverse today, making some guys miss then diving for the pylon. The offense erupted in celebration after. Wingo is ahead of the curve athletically AND mentally. Johntay Cook had a really good day. Isaiah Bond had a 30-yard catch-and-run TD. DeAndre Moore: "His routes are crisp" literal quote, ha ha. He's winning his one on ones and catching the ball well. Matthew Golden is really quick and elusive but also has straight-line speed. Good in space. Has some savviness to him. "He can play all three positions." Ryan Niblett still working on his route running but great straight-line speed. He's coming along but he's in a talented and deep room. Aaron Butler had a good practice. Kid is naturally talented. He's flashing but still has a long way to go from a knowledge standpoint. Edge Similar to receiver, very deep, a lot of talent. You have two guys (Barryn Sorrell, Ethan Burke) who know the defense very well and two guys who are damn good pass rushers (Trey Moore and Colins Simmons) and then people behind them who are hungry to get on the field. It's a really stacked group. "Trey Moore is a natural football player with high football IQ. Everything comes quick to him, just truly understands the game. Practices hard and is a hard hitter." Defensive Tackle Coaches need to find more depth but encouragingly they're doing pretty well against run game. "Need about 5-6 to be ready so more guys have to step up. Conditioning needs to improve. They have the talent they just need to keep coming along." Alex January is learning but the first Spring is often difficulty, especially for the bigger players. "He's learning; he'll be good." "Tia Savea is a hard worker, understands the defense. He has the want-to, always looking to improve." Word is Jaray Bledsoe is improving, coming along with maturity, needs to keep coming along. He's not there yet but getting better. Linebacker Really good depth and good 3-man rotation. "I'd put Texas' three linebackers up against anyone's." That's from the same source who told us last August he thought UT had the best D-line in the country. Lots of experience, in a good spot right now with the core group of the defense. Liona Lefau is doing well, looks good physically, knows the defense well. Probably better football speed than 40 speed. Better football athlete than combine athlete. "Tyanthony Smith is going to be really good. Hungry, runs to the ball, likes contact, will do what it takes to get on the field. Has gained weight but needs to gain more. He's going to be a beast." CB / Star Jaylon Guilbeau and Austin Jordan look really good. Not sure where Jahdae Barron is going to play. Three really good stars. "Terry Joseph is going to have some hard decisions to make in August." Corners have a tough assignment covering Isaiah Bond every day but they're doing well. The corners have a better understanding of the defense, not finding themselves "watching" the quarterback as much. Young CB's are coming along. Learning new stuff every day. The younger guys have the athleticism for the position. Safety The first three strings have a lot of depth. Mukuba is looking really good, he'll play anywhere, S, Star, special teams. Yes, he's out there running around on ST's. Jelani McDonald is coming along, still transitioning from Star to Safety but making strides. He'll be good with Spring ball and Austin practice before he plays under the lights. The game has slowed down for Williams. He's understanding what the offense is trying to do. He's more comfortable beyond being in man coverage. Filsaime and JJ-R are hungry, striking hard, making plays on balls. Hungry group, competitive, good leadership in the room with Michael Taaffe and Mukuba.
