  1. Hey brother. I know we already talked in the DMs, but for future reference, I also recommend the Akumal/Puerto Aventuras area to do the cenotes for a few days. What we often do is stay in Akumal first for a few days, then pack up and go to Isla for another few days. Great stuff. (eta: having finished reading the thread I see now that you have something similar in mind. cool) We don't even bother with PdC (our old fave) or Tulum any more. PdC is crazy now, and Tulum is nothing like the Tulum of even just 5 years ago. Akumal and the PA area still have a pretty chill vibe, at least for the time being. Agree it'll be hot, but I find it's typically quite a bit cooler on average than it is here in Austin, even in the summer months. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the mid 70s all summer. Of course the humidity sucks though, so on the heat misery index I'd put it slightly less than Austin, but the "I'm in Isla and not Austin, and can jump in the agua whenever I want" factor puts Isla over for the easy win.
  2. That was my take, and while I don’t love that negotiating strategy it’s effective (until it isn’t!) many many times. If that’s what happens he gets another win, the country wins and we can look to actively horsefucking China, which is owed a huge fucking beating for all the ways they lie, cheat, steal and oh by the way caused the entire covid worldwide pandemic those bunch of commie assholes. as to why I believed this might not be a ploy, Trump is a 1980’s style Democrat of the Dick Gephart stripe that’s loved Tarrifs (at least in theory) for his whole life, so I was a bit concerned the whole thing was going to be not a ploy but actual belief.
  3. We import so much shit from China, from consumer electronics, beauty products, clothes, furniture, etc. The reason why we import so much shit from China is because it is cheaper than where we can get it anywhere else. US Consumers are the largest benefactor, by far. Shit is going to get even more expensive. China is gambling that they can endure their hit to their economy longer than US consumers can endure a hit to their wallet. The next election will tell the story of who wins. If there is a wholesale change to Republican seats, China wins because the people voted to exit the tariff dick measuring contest. If there isn't a massive shit in seats, then Trump won and China has to acquiese. That's my take anyway.
  4. Liucci was born a redass aggie. He lives in College Station. He's never known anything but aggieness, from school to sports to living, it's all the same. Obviously this clearly qualifies him as an expert who can speak to the world about who they are and what they represent and blah blah blah. Yet somehow, this clown also speaks authoritatively about winning coaches, winning players, winning strategies, winning cultures, on and on. He's allowed to do so by the aggie faithful, but that's okay since they're all lemmings and need one of their own to tell them what they want to hear in an unexamined way. On the other hand, how is this guy allowed to speak to the rest of the public and to other media regarding anything on winning? He has no idea, no history, and no background to point him having been close to anything or anyone who knows a damned thing about winning. That infamous tweet was taken seriously by people and retweeted at the time. As if Liucci had any tools for knowing whether Fisher, Williams or Schlossnagle were actually going to be able to win anything at the time. Even now, he has the temerity to respond to the mockery by claiming that he was right at the time. That fucking rube is actually an expert on losing. When he starts predicting, we should start betting on the opposite.
  5. Yeah - I'm 34% cash now. should be 40% by close Friday with no change. I told my wife this strategy was risky, but I also said this could be a life changing opportunity to make money. I must also point out I was $20K down on the sae holdings a month ago. SO yes super risky. I will likely look at doing what I was going to do yesterday and what has been my normal stock strategy, sell calls for half the shares after a steep run up. Probably will sell some 105/110/100 calls to cover up half the remaining shares. I tired to yesterday when UVIX was touching $100, but pull back dashed my plan in the last 4 minutes of the day. And yes these positions are fucking risky. But this is the risky account. Hell it's hard to sell shit that keeps putting up 4 and 5 digit wins. My hedge both on the way up and way down has been covered calls. That's how I grew the account to begin with trading a very volatile PLTR mostly. So risk is what it is. Yesterday was $24K down to $20K up. If for even a second I thought that Trump would be the one to reach out to China I would be a LOT more worried. But I think right now we are likely to see an ego standoff between Trump and Xi.... over who makes the fucking phone call... And do you see the architect of this amazing change for the world economy making that call? DO you? I put up a post a few pages back, that said it was going to take perhaps as much as a 10,000 points down for Trump to change course. Sadly I still believe this. The fake rally showed me there is still way too much hope. And I am big on betting against folks that believe stuff that is not true and invest emotionally because of that. I am going short only because Trump has been predictably stupid. Just trying to cash in betting against a really badly managed company right now.
  6. This team is not built to win, if we are honest with each other and stop sunshine pumping and wishful thinking, it’s not even built to compete. It sucks seeing Bregman & Tucker with great early starts. 2025 Stros are starting to look like a bunch of guys just cashing checks. I put that on the manager. Just a terrible product on the field. I despise bad baseball, poor play and horrible decision making. Heads up…Crane is going to go ultra cheap on the next manager prepare yourselves!!!! oh and btw those city connects are cursed and they look Like something a teenager would wear working at the mall in the 80’s selling orange whips!
  7. Is your position that no matter what the dems did they could not win the election because of stupid voters? This is where I disagree. There is and will always be uneducated, stupid and biased voters. A smart leader is able to overcome it. Muslim voters felt like they were not being heard, and they wanted to punish the incumbent. That's usually the natural outcome when a demography feels like they are not being heard. The problem going forward is going to be how dems can relate to people who feel like they are not being heard. Do you accept it as inevitable and blame the "stupid' or do you craft a strategy to overcome it? We lost a few important supporters like Musk and Ackman with a huge following during the last election. These people are not stupid. They just formed an alliance that they thought would benefit them more. Ackman was pleading Biden to drop out for months and then he switched sides. To ignore the mistakes as someone else's problem is the recipe for failure again.
  8. Part of the problem here is that you are so convinced that you are correct that you leave no room for dissent without feeling attacked. Your posts are very offensive/defensive minded. But let me address a few other things: I think you have fallen into the trap of what Tahoe and Anastasis and others of their ilk would lay out. "You forced me to vote for the worst person, because....." and then they would rattle off something to try to appear reasoned while ignoring the real truth, they were never going to vote non-R because that is their identity. You place more faith and belief in swing-voters than I do. I tend to believe whoever gets on TV and has the most fear-based commercials is going to win, content or facts need not apply. This is why we see so many people in shock about losing their status, their security, their assets because they never were interested in looking at the whole candidate and instead just latched on to what they thought was cool/trendy and what their favorite influencers/podcasters claimed. I tend to think the swing-voters are just trying to get attention. For example, we have communities like Muslim-Americans who voted for Trump because they thought he would be their guy. They convinced themselves he would be their guy. All evidence was to the contrary, but still they voted for him. The message was out there, but they lied to themselves. They protest voted against the Democratic Party demanding that they needed to be heard. And they stuck their stupid right into the lion's jaws. No amount of facts were going to get through to irrational people who voted irrationally because they convinced themselves of the 'signs' were there that he would do their bidding. If you want to say the left has a problem with messaging, it does. It is an inherent flaw with reasoned, qualified, logical positions. They don't fit on a bumper sticker and they don't rhyme. It is why former Republican strategist Michael Steele even repeated "facts have a liberal bias." The other problem is when you have ethical standards you tend to live by them. You don't create TV ads with some lying scumbag in a military hat telling people that public schools are performing sex-change operations on children without consent. Lying about school vouchers scams as freedom. All funded by the people who want their hands on the government's cash earmarked for education.

    2025 NCAA Baseball

Pertinent chat notes. Not much Texas info. Note they think 13 SEC wins qualifies for the postseason. I know we pounded Missouri pretty pretty hard this weekend, but doesn't Texas deserve to be #1. They have better series wins and I for one don't want the #1 Albatross hanging around our collective necks We debated Texas vs. Arkansas for the top spot quite a bit, and our staff was split pretty evenly -- but also, all of us saw a case for the other team as well. UT has those two super-loud series wins at home (2/3 vs LSU, sweeping Georgia), but Arkansas also has two quality series wins against ranked teams on the ROAD (at Ole Miss, sweeping Vandy), and doing that on the road is also pretty loud. I think their resumés are actually very close, and we already had the Hogs ranked higher so it made sense to me just to slide them up a spot. But if we had gone with Texas based on the LSU and Georgia series wins, I would have had no issue with that either. Not saying we're back, but boy was that a gust of fresh air on Saturday. Will 13 SEC wins cut it this year to make the playoffs, or will the selection committee be more harsh with the bigger conferences this year? What is your gut feeling for minimum wins for the at-large SEC teams? If A&M gets to 13 league wins, it will definitely make the field, IMO, because the Aggies would have had to beat some mammoth RPI teams to get to that point. Your RPI would probably be closer to 20 than it would be 50 at that stage of the game. Saturday's performances were mighty impressive, namely with Sorrell raking and Bear Harrison coming into his own. But let's see the Aggies put together two-straight solid weeks, and then we can have a discussion about turning the corner. A step forward? Sure. that's it for now. Seeing a lot of West Coast kids commiting/playing on SEC schools, has this always been the case and I am now noticing? Or is NIL grabbing the best of the West and bringing them out to the SEC for $, better atmospheres, better facilities, etc... Tim -- It's definitely more prominent than it once was. I do think realignment will help the West Coast schools keep some of those kids at home, but the fact of the matter is outside of Oregon State, the atmospheres and facilities in conferences like the SEC, ACC and Big 12 are better. That is going to lead to more and more kids from out that direction heading East to play college baseball. LSU's Pitching staff and just their overall outlook as a team right now. (0 ER over the weekend is insane btw) Kendall touched on this above, but I'll go a step further: I am really in on this LSU team. I love the length and variety in their lineup, and obviously you have to be excited about the sheer talent in their rotation, but also in the bullpen. I know there have been occasional bumps along the way with that pitching staff, but I think those are expected growing pains with young arms, and jeez they're still sitting there at 30-3! Was there any discussions around UTSA for a top 25 spot? Pat Hallmark's squad is looking really good and has a RPI inside the top 30. Hunter -- The Roadrunners still have some work to do. I actually really like UTSA's offense overall, but getting run-ruled twice against DBU a couple of weeks ago kind of soured us a bit on UTSA from a Top 25 standpoint. That series sweep over FAU does look a little louder now after seeing the Mac's team did against ECU last weekend. How about the job Jim Schlossnagle has done at Texas! That guy can coach and has won everywhere! Schloss really has done a great job with this team. It's not easy to get a team to immediately buy into your way of doing things and culture, but it seems like the Longhorns' players were eager to see some improved structure. In addition to Jim, I feel like pitching coach Max Weiner once again is doing a phenomenal job with a pitching staff. He's the pitching whisperer, for sure. Really impressed with those guys across the board. They didn't skip a beat without AR and MB this past weekend. Do you think A&M can build off this past weekend, or do you feel like it was a one-day doubleheader aberration? Chris -- we shall see. I don't take much from the weekend other than A&M is still fighting and hasn't thrown in the towel. The one thing I did really like about A&M is that Bear Harrison is getting into a groove offensively and Caden Sorrell did Caden Sorrell things. If those two are going to hit like that, that lineup has very few holes now. Even Ben Royo is making some offensive strides. Is Oklahoma a regional host? Or are they finally getting exposed for a weak schedule? OU is not out of the hosting mix, but it really needs to win that series against Vandy. Sitting at 5-7 in the league, if you win that series, you gotta feel like you'll do well against Missouri the following weekend. So, this series for me is a swing series for the Sooners. RPI is still in a good spot at 18 -- but league record, as of today, is an issue. Does Michael Earley lose his job if the Aggies somehow make it into the postseason? If the Aggies make the NCAA tournament, I would be willing to bet money he's back. That would mean the Aggies likely won series against two of Arkansas, Texas, LSU and Georgia. That would be a pretty strong way to finish the regular season and make the NCAA tourney. I'm still not a believer until I see much more from the Aggies outside of one day.
  10. They said kind of an interesting thing on the podcast this morning. That they are a bit unsure of Texas because things have been going a bit too perfectly so far, while acknowledging that is a ridiculous thing to say. Especially with our injuries. But I kind of get it. Can we really just go along beating everybody by 5-3 or 7-4 scores all year? We are not really separating ourselves or being dominant, just winning. We'll see. But there are fewer and fewer great teams left to play before the post season. Only pig is in the top 10 left on our schedule, granted it is on the road and they are #1. Though Auburn might be there by the time we play them I guess.
  11. I'm a big fan of PB and her style of play and I think she's just fun to watch. When her game is on, it's so much fun to watch her play. I think her career deserved a national championship, so I was rooting for them if we weren't going to win it
  12. I did not go into this season thinking it would be one of our best starts in decades, no. A surprise to be sure. Especially since we aren't exactly blowing everybody out. Just playing solid baseball and winning.
  13. Arkansas is #2 in nearly every poll, Georgia was #3, Florida State was #4 and Texas at #5. We know what happened to Georgia, FSU got run ruled by Wake Forest today at home 12-0. Arkansas gets to beat up on Missouri two more times tomorrow. They will be no worse than tied for first place in the SEC with a 11-1 record. Their overall record will go to 30-3 compared to 26-4 overall if Texas wins tomorrow. I think Arkansas will move to #1, not that it matters much.
  14. They are going to have to rename the cup after we win it every year.
  15. we are going to win this game.. we just have too
  16. Our offense isn't pretty but we make up for it by playing tough defense. It's going to be tough to win it all if we don't play better on offense though.
  17. If they get to Lutz I think he'll take the job. We're paying him $2.4M and as much as I'd like to give him some time to succeed I wouldn't match a $3M or higher offer from aggy even if he gave us a chance to match because he did struggle this year. I couldn't find what his buyout is but we paid WKU $2 million for him, surely our buyout for him is at least that, and I'd take the money and let him go. It's also just a better job at this point. For all of their failures aggy unquestionably has more money and resources. Apparently you only have to win like 5 conference games to make the tourney from SEC. He's from Texas and has no real connection to Oklahoma. If he's the guy though aggy is likely gonna be pissed, means they struck out on everyone with established P5 success and hot up and comers. I'm torn how i'd feel if they hired Moser. It would be funny for ou to lose a coach to aggy but Moser isn't exactly lighting things up and mediocre ou is always entertaining.
  18. The problem we run into here is that those you have listed, including Beto, are all white men. And there are a lot of voters in the Democratic bloc that do not trust white men and will vote for anyone else first. We have a lot of voters who don't do any research on candidates and when they go to vote they will choose by name. Are they a woman? What race are they? That's how they decide. We need to somehow change that and get people to vote for the most electable candidate in November regardless of age, race, gender, etc. It doesn't even have to be the most qualified candidate, but the one who stands the most chance of winning against the R. I mean that's how Trump won. He's not the most qualified, he was the most electable. It's not the ideal way, obviously. The risk you run when you take that path is you end up with someone like Trump whose incompetence keeps getting exposed. Will it harm the Republican party? Probably not. Will it harm the country? Absolutely. So the trick is finding someone both electable and capable. I tell people who start to spit on older white politicians that that is the demo for the people who built and use the system to their advantage. It's easire to break a good ol boys club up from inside if you infiltrate it as a good ol boy. Our opposition by their very nature do not see anyone else as their equals, other than other white males (and somehow Cruz has worked around this). So with that in mind, all the other electeds are fighting just to gain respect, much less get their voices heard on specific issues. And that good ol' boy persona rates pretty high in Texas.
  19. 20. Pricing going up is the goal (and shows we are winning). Is anyone here a quant? Because I would like some reassurance from a quant.
  21. I'm not going to be too upset if we jump Portland (which I don't think we will). It would mean we got close to .500 on the season and at some point you need to start winning basketball games. I think this has been a nice stretch for Mitch, too - to maybe get a better handle on some shit in low-leverage games and not have as many moving parts with Wemby and Fox out. I have my doubts that he's the guy long term but if they hire him going into next season I guess we'll see what the fuck happens. I'd like if they threw CP another year or two as long as he's cool with coming off the bench going forward.
  22. They're beautiful tariffs. Many people are saying they're the best ever. They've never seen anything like it. Other people, they have small tariffs, but we have big beautiful tariffs. We are going to win big with beautiful tariffs like this
  23. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! How low can we go? SO MUCH WINNING! I don't know about you, but I'm tired of it.
  24. My best guess is that eventually Congress gives an antitrust exemption to either the NCAA or whoever is running the top level college administration at that time. At some point it's going to be whoever gives the Big 10/SEC or an eventual merger between the two the most power. Then people will have to win cases without using the antitrust act, which is still possible, but that's the linchpin for all the lost cases that's destroyed the NCAA's ability to run college sports. But until then there are no guard rails, and there's too many actors with too much to gain for some kind of cabal to be able to stifle wage increases the way we see in other industries. NIL is also not governed by profit/loss concerns, but by the value placed on the emotional investment in seeing your alma mater win. That value is different depending on the individual, and how much of their net worth they're willing to spend. I don't think we've come even close to reaching a ceiling. I don't think we will until the system suffers some kind of collapse, although I'm uncertain what a collapse would look like. I just know we're not there yet. But we will be at some point. I don't think Congress is going to pass legislation until then. But maybe I'm wrong.
