Colorado Vacation Destinations - Not Quite So Crowded, But Still Cool

As long as you don't act like an entitled prick, I've got no issue with you. If you're the type to start telling locals how they should kiss your ass because without your money we wouldn't be able to live here, maybe visit Utah next time. -
Only good wishes for BV and his recovery…but it’s not like his absence is going to cost us many goals. I’m curious to see more from Taylor, he’s looked good in limited time, and we desperately need a spark up there.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen

We need to step away from the jump to conclusions mat. There is no way to accurately speculate what the future is going to bring other than it's going to be very different than what it is now. Acting is if this is the final form of college sports - and college football specifically - and even more specifically, college football recruiting - is silly. Eventually there will be some kind of federal legislation, because that's the only avenue that can bring some resemblance of stability. Until then the whole ecosystem is going to be whipsawed from one direction into another based on the most recent court cases/settlements, new state laws passed to give the local programs a competitive advantage, and how different programs find ways around various restrictions. But acting like what has been going on the last few weeks is a harbinger of what the future will look like is silly. At the end of the day any sales pitch needs the opportunity to get your foot in the door. Relationships still matter. They always will. Success on the gridiron will make a difference. But when we're talking about millions of dollars being thrown around for individual players, of course that's going to often trump how many playoff appearances, NFL draft picks, or individual accolades are being earned. But it doesn't mean they don't matter at all. -

My kid also looked at Fort Lewis. He had an invite to walk onto the cross country team but he went a different direction. I loved it there and tried my best to get him there but he wanted the bigger school/watch your team play on Saturdays experience. Fort Lewis made me want to go Rodney Dangerfield and enroll. -
Yeah…love the “recent discoveries” angle. Him fucking an aide was a centerpiece of his impeachment and related lawsuit, from YEARS ago. It’s all about political expediency. But, you know, the party of Christian family values. There is no less Christian, less pro-family group on earth than the GQP, yet here we are.

Thanks. That’s what I assumed going into today, but everyone wants to hype up a “win” against Texas, so we get fake drama. -
This shit is fuckin rough. Going into a top 10 atmosphere on the road is damn near guaranteed a loss. The qbs dot you up with no remorse. One on one tackling is non existent. I’m sure it’s just gonna take some getting used to but this game feels way clunkier and slow than last year. If the computer determines you will lose the game you will know fairly early on. Florida’s first drive they tipped a ball over DB to pick up a first down on 3rd and 15. Then my next drive on offense I dove for the pylon and of course fumbled. Touchback. This shit is super frustrating so far

I can only speak to my 8 summers as a camper and one summer as a counselor at Waldemar. It’s just very laid back. Small town feel. The magic of that place could be felt—now I can only imagine the mentality. A warning system that seemed even less effective than strings tied to cans in a treehouse. You got the sense or at least I did as a camper “floods happen but it ain’t no big thing.” I never got the sense as a camper that the river would turn on you or that we wouldn’t be safe. It’s that feeling that the camp directors were in charge of all that and no worries. I am honestly shocked a disaster like this had not happened before now. It will never be the same. There will be lots of changes whether people wanted them or want them now or not. It was just a sleepy beautiful slow moving place. Now it is being drug forcefully 99 years into the future. Knowing a few locals and again I can only speak to my direct knowledge I can say they likely felt this sort of phone tree like warning system was adequate and feared any other type of change. Now change will be forced on them. The whole thing is past heartbreaking. Felt heartsick since we all learned the news of multiple people missing. These are not people who thrive on change. Just do what they do. It will never be the same and just as they wanted to live near the magical river with its mists rising off of it…they didn’t respect the power of it. And so I get the frustration people from the outside looking in have on the locals. They were living at their own pace with very few changes for a long time—thinking nothing bad will happen here. Wrong. this could have been an event where if the people had been amenable to change and to a common sense and necessary warning system we would be talking about how sad the devastation and destruction is and there would not have been significant loss of life. Instead it’s about the profound unnecessary loss of life and the destruction.

Sounds like my daughter's camp experience. She was a camper for a couple years, then a counselor-in-training for two more, and then a counselor after her senior year and now this year after her freshman year of college. I never thought to ask her what kind of training she had to go through in order to be come a counselor. I assumed at the very least some basic CPR and water safety, but mostly she just worked her ass off learning how to operate and organize the camp. I seriously doubt she had any training that would remotely prepare her to get herself and the young girls in her cabin swiftly to safety after waking up in the middle of the night to water rising in her cabin only to get swept away by raging waters filled with trees, cars, and other heavy debris moving at lightening speed. It's a nightmare scenario, but parents of camp kids watched that happen last week, and I don't think any of us feel like our kids would be trained for that, and we can only hope their mentally and physically strong and quick enough to deal with that.

This is very much the case. After the Eaton Fire, we were all eager to roll up our sleeves and start helping physically in any way we could. The reality was the scope and scale of the destruction was WAY beyond the abilities of just well intentioned neighbors. Ultimately the best way we found to help was financially through Go Fund Me's for families who had lost everything (and we know many dozens/hundreds in this situation). But to that end, be VERY certain the GFM's are legit. Even if they are for people you know. The scumbags are already out setting up bogus ones, filing BS FEMA claims just using public property data and social media, you name it. Trust but verify. I can't stress that enough. But yes, the scale may be way more than the surly flood brigade can impact. But maybe not. Wishing you all the very best.

It's not a coincidence that there is slavery in South Sudan. We really won't be able to get those prisoners back if the courts try to make us.
-
There’s no emergency like a “we need to do everything we can to overly skew this state’s Republican delegation” emergency. Fuck them kids.

We all know this isn't a new development. It's just gotten a helluva lot more expensive now that it's over-the-table. Classic FAFO

Yes, let's attempt to go back to the time when the NCAA pooled all TV rights. An antitrust ruling broke up the NCAA's monopoly back in the day. 0u was at the forefront of that lawsuit way back in 1984.

That's unimaginable. Can't even believe that happened and yet, here we are. Unreal.

Re: that CBS video, I'd love to watch it. You got a link? Re: the Counselors, my kid, the middle class son of a teacher and a firefighter, was a camp counselor at Camp Longhorn when he was 16 -18. Part of the appeal was getting to be at a camp we couldn't afford to send him to at the time. He had never been to any camp other than Baylor's fucked up, shitty hoops camp, so he had no experience and his training was on the job. He worked his ass off, learned a lot, and had a blast, but at least at first, he had no training at all other than the sexual conduct training, some videos, and then a meeting for a few hours just before 'active duty'. He was working under a more experienced, older camp counselor who he reported to.

+1 TBH don't go help people to deal with the loss or your own emotions about it, you should only go if you know what you are getting into and you are equipped to help. Its not going to be glorious, its going to be fucking terrible and the thanks you will get won't really be worth it if that's why you are going.
-
Excuse me, sir. Texans love football and you sound like a loser. Quit making this political. We don’t need warning systems when we have the power of prayer.

yeah, I'm afraid there are going to be so many people that are never found, until the next big flood washes away the sand and stone to reveal what is left

I'm embarrassed to say we've never eaten at Garlic Mikes although we usually stay right near there. Nothing against it and I understand it's still great, but we are usually grubby and while it's not fine dining, we're usually in the mood for something other than sit-down Italian. We make the rounds at: High Alpine: gotten super expensive but great pizza and outstanding brews, the Kolsch is probably the best I've had outside of Koln. The Dive: Next to and owned by the Marios folks. Super cool open air seating in the summer, the duck poutine is whaaarrrrgarrbl. Power Stop: greasy ass burgers and breakfast burritos in a kick ass gas station Backcountry Cafe: great breakfast, San Juan Benedict with chorizo and green chile FTW W Cafe: another great breakfast spot Sherpa Cafe: Also in Salida and CB, Nepalese immigrants who make great stuff Secret Stash: Legendary pizza in CB "Himalayan Food": Hidden at the back of the Eldo in CB, amazing stuff, also immigrants who barely speak English. Dammit, why am I sitting here in the heat and humidity? So many poor life choices... -

To be fair, given her age and time in industry, Swisher pointed out this was mostly to get the 3 letters by her name, by any means necessary, she wasn't getting them at NBC, so get them at X. What does she do now? Retire? Just chill? She has a net worth of $40M. She can basically just take the rest of her life off and relax. Why even go back? But yeah, as much as she's debased herself, no one else is going to take her in. Then again, maybe she is right there for an ad exec.
