We have a ton of awesome restaurants in Houston. Starting this thread not to talk about the places you’ll go to on a lazy Friday/Saturday for TexMex or whatever. I want to hear about some of the places y’all like to go and really enjoy the food/service/wine, date nights, whatever. Some examples: Hugo’s: probably my favorite restaurant in this city. Just always have a really fun time there and love the food. Honestly any of that group’s restaurants could be listed here. Helen’s in Rice Village: Love Greek food and wine, very cool spot (especially once covid shit is over/pre-covid) Field & Tides: reminds me of my family’s restaurant that I grew up in. Neat spot, and I’ve loved every meal I’ve ever had there. Just some examples. whatchall got?

…and we need to address it post haste: An active-duty U.S. Marine came under federal investigation for allegedly plotting with at least two others to assassinate minorities, drug users, and employees of the Democratic National Committee with explosives, rocket launchers, and automatic rifles. That’s according to a newly unsealed FBI search warrant affidavit obtained by The Daily Beast, which indicates USMC Private First Class Travis Owens and his partners in the unrealized murder plot were influenced by Timothy McVeigh, the former U.S. Army soldier behind the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that left 168 people dead and injured nearly 700. The document also states that one of the suspects had links to the Atomwaffen Division, a violent neo-Nazi group linked to at least five murders. A handful of active service members and veterans have been identified as being members of Atomwaffen, which calls for the armed overthrow of the U.S. government. The investigation began in late August 2019, when a tipster contacted the FBI about disturbingly violent conversations they had observed in a private Facebook Messenger chat group named “Right Wing Death Squad.” According to the FBI, three men were behind the troubling chats: James Wisdom of Arkansas; mechanic Jason D’Juan Garfield—also of Arkansas—who went by the noms de guerre “Moon Man” and “Jugger Bugger;” and Owens, a Marine Corps E-1 from Arkansas stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. “Rhetoric in the private chat messages was consistent with racially motivated extremism ideology, to include aspirational violence against religious and racial minorities,” states the affidavit, which was signed by Special Agent Ryan Crump of the FBI Little Rock Joint Terrorism Task Force. https://www.thedailybeast.com/active-duty-marine-travis-owens-plotted-to-bomb-dnc-murder-black-people-feds-say

PSA, Parks and Rec fans - Peacock has added "producer's cut" versions of a bunch of episodes, sprinkled throughout the seasons. Today I was watching Flu Season 2 and wondering how in the world I'd missed certain things, and then realized what was up. It's a good time for a rewatch!

I sure hope I’m in Miami on vacation and they are so happy the U is making a bowl. Im saddened by the pity I’m recieving. Would rather shit talking.

Position coaches, like Sam Pittman or Dabo (went from WR coach / recruiting coordinator to interim to HC) Survivors from previous failed regime (Dabo, Stoops) Coordinators (Stoops, Riley, Snyder) HS legends (Malzahn) Lower division legends (Leipold, Klieman) G5 winners (Urban at Utah; Rhule) Guys who haven't won big enough at a P5 (Saban at MSU; all of the above) NFL failures (Carroll) I am not itching to fire Sark or any of the staff at this point, but just pointing out that every kind of resume has its pitfalls and rewards. Somebody in our slapdick organization has to be able to realize when the guy is the guy. And then they need to GTFO his way. Going back to Dana X. Bible, we've exactly one seamless transfer of power. He handed off to the guy he beat out for the job ten years previously -- Blair Cherry -- who did something you just don't see anymore: he bided his time for a decade. Cherry's four-year run was as great as Bible's peak, but our fans and boosters wore him out with unrealistic expectations -- an NC every year, even though we'd never won a single one yet. 9-1 seasons and undefeated conference championships capped off by major bowl wins were not enough. (Yes, he lost to Bud Wilkinson's OU that year, 14-13). He was an insomniac, ulcerated wreck at the end of four years, but it looked like he managed to leave the program in good hands, just as Bible had done in leaving it to him. Cherry's successor went 23-8 with two top ten finishes and a Cotton Bowl win in his first three years....and then drove the program off a cliff. Yes, this was Ed Price, truly the worst coach in Texas history, who took a dynasty and in six years turned it into a 1-9 team. So the whole promoting from within thing is also dangerous. We tried that at the end of Royal's tenure too. By most accounts, Akers was not Royal's guy. That was his DC Mike Campbell, but some of our boosters meddled and Akers won out. Who knows if Campbell would have been any better in the long run -- probably not, 'cause we needed young, post-integration blood on the sidelines then -- but maybe, who knows. And Akers did represent continuity, but not as much. At any rate, he, and the complete catastrophe that was the McWilliams Restoration, represented the end of the Royal era, and decades later, Mack did not get to execute his succession plan, which time has proven would have been a disaster, anyway.... Fuck this season. This is an off-season thread.

This is argued about in multiple threads so let’s lay it all out in one main thread. I have and always will be someone that believes your team reflects it’s leadership. I know we need new talent on the 40 but the ones we have are not 1 and 2 star guys, that’s Baylor who just beat us and they have a coach that is helping that lower end talent develop and play about their “star” rankings. Beyond just star ranking how about our poor second half performances and the apparent no adjustments at all? One game? Ok maybe it’s just the ou meltdown but no it’s been 4 straight games of wtf second half meltdowns. How anyone thinks that’s just the players is beyond me. but let’s hear the arguments from both sides, and just saying “we need 5 star studs” isn’t a argument and it’s lazy tbh. Great coaches have the ability to at the least have his team improving week to week and maybe it won’t mean we win games but it does mean if we are getting better we will probably win some games as I think we should have done.

I earlier said I’d light myself on fire like those pictures of the monks and sit Indian style outside DKR if we play a 1 score game with Kansas. Gas is getting expensive. I’m not skinny. Anyone got $15 they can lend me to see the pyrotechnics? What a depressing game tonight. the sun will come up tomorrow. If We can rally down the stretch and beat moonshine aggy, rock chalk and wheat aggy @closetojumpingcan do a fist pump somewhere down in Galveston as “7 Win Steve” will ride again. hey, a girl can hope, right?

This race is tighter than a duck's ass. POTUS, Obama, and others campaign for McAuliffe. Younkin's a trumpkin, but where's trump?

And that he runs really well in space? Yea yea yea Whittington had a nice game against ULaLa, but at that game my son and I both commented that Bijan (and to a lesser extent RoJo) seemed to be our best WRs. I know Rojo took the checkdown for a score tonight but other than that did we even ever throw the ball to Bijan? Taking that RB receiving threat we seemed to have in the plan last week completely out of the game seemed like one of many many poor choices.

This essay could've gone in multiple threads, but it deserved its own. Have included the link but the entire thing (part one anyway) is behind the spoiler. Long but thoughtful, very thoughtful read.

One of my all time favorites. Anyone else a fan? In 1982 when I was 14 and flipping burgers at Sonic on Shady Grove Road in Irving and very certain that Iron Maiden and Judas Priest we’re the end all be all of music, we would routinely give our manager shit for being a Bob Seger fan. When you dipshits grow up, he said, you’ll understand. Well, Kenny, you were right. I’ll start with this:

It's year 4 in the Tom Herman era and I think it's pretty clear that if Texas doesn't make the CCG this season, Herman is shown the door. It's also a safe bet that if we win the Big 12, Herman is retained. But What happens if Texas makes the CCG and loses? My nightmare is we make the CCG and lose and Herman is retained because it's 2020 and everything sucks.

The fuck is this about?

every year about this time, a pair of mallards splash down in my pool. It's been going on for 4 or 5 years now; I assume it's the same pair but I'm not sure. How long do ducks live anyway? I chase them off, and they come back. The showed up late yesterday, and I chased them off. I'm enjoying a beautiful afternoon on the patio, and "splash", they are back. I chased them off again, but I expect them to be back tonight or tomorrow. We've had a fair bit of rain lately, and there are plenty of ponds and lakes in SoCal, and the local river, the San Luis Rey, has plenty of water now. But those mofos really love to shit in my pool.

At least we still own the Giants since 2016

And we wonder why we can't get back to prominence. We've never been squeaky clean ever when we've been at the top. If you want to win you've got to play the game and hire cold hitting pipe hitters. Fuck you dorks that want to be Michigan - go cheer for them.

Just a city-killer; no big deal. https://instantweather.ca/2019/07/28/XyPiJ3--city-killer-asteroid-with-the-power-of-a-nuclear-bomb-came-uncomfortably-close-to-earth-this-week-and-nobody-saw-it-coming/?fbclid=IwAR2_KUp1Wmm8jrx5DmYfbZ2f9pRXL2iNcGd0H_0aEYT4Xn0Iyso4U8g5mB8 And now scientists have revealed that they have discovered an asteroid named Asteroid 2019 OK earlier this week and only figured out the magnitude of it just hours before it came within 73,000 kilometres of the earth as reported by NASA. For comparison, the moon is over 5 times that distance at approximately 380,000 kilometres away so that’s relatively close even though it seems like a large number. According to The Washington Post, it was already expected that a few asteroids would pass by earth this week and pose no threat. So, for most scientists, it didn’t raise any alarm bells when reports began flowing in about an asteroid that brushed by the earth on Thursday (July 25). After information about the size of the rock was released, it was then realized that this asteroid wasn’t among the ones they were tracking and it had remained undetected until it had passed by. "2019 OK (so far)," indeed.
