Shiiiiiiieeeet, Erewhon would clean up in Austin between all the pretentious tech bros and gals, then throw in all the influencers. Either downtown or West Lake would be a money printer. I didn't have any of my usual Herdez roasted salsa verde but had a jar of this in the pantry that I got a while back in a meal deal. This is definitely going to be my new go-to.

Epstein files update (there are no Epstein files)

Nobody is going to point out that his name is an anagram? -
LOL. Steph Curry was a legacy NBA player whose slight build lead to bigtime questions about durability and physical toughness; but was well thought of as an offensive threat by anyone paying attention. He answered the concerns in the most dramatic and convincing of fashions. The NBA officials and players didn't go out of their way to shun and beat the living fuck out of him either. The league damned sure didn't let the Pistons and Knicks, among others; beat the living fuck out of him. Jordan is a far better example of someone who got fucking physically obliterated early on. Even then, he wasn't treated like Clark has been in the WNBA. Hell Jordan even made the '84 Olympic team.

I'd take Freese over Steffen. I just can't trust Steffen. This is what we need from a CB. This kid is slowly winning me over and slowly becoming less of a liability at his position. That he is homegrown makes it better, imo. We should always have at least one AMERICAN American CB. Shit like that matters. Your grammar here is consistently trash. It was trash throughout the comment that I just quoted. I like you as a poster but miss us with calling out Chris Richards' "grammar". We fucking need that kid to step up next year. He needs all the support, karma, juju - whatever the hell we can give him.

Sinners - Coogler, Goransson, and Michael B Jordan

Shit. I don't know. This may be his masterpiece. I hit send before the end of credits scene. Steinfeld with the lollipop does something to a man (and it isn't just that). Maybe a 9? I think I'm going to watch it again right now. I rarely do this - I remember doing it with Drive. -

Thoughts after my 2nd watch: The first part - 40 mins or so - before they get to the night at the juke joint is probably my favorite part of the film. It's masterful filmmaking with the world-building and character introductions and cinematography and dialogue. Frankly I think the setting is just prettier and it makes for more aesthetically pleasing shots. It's still very good and very fun after that. I also think it lags a bit in the middle - the pacing isn't particularly good for awhile. The last 30 minutes are pretty powerhouse. It's overall extremely brilliant but a little messy. This is the best thing Coogler has done by far but I think he has something better in him. I also don't understand the political bitching about the film - I probably need a couple more watches to sus out what exactly the societal commentary is but I know for a fact that it's more complex than "white people are the devil". e.g. the white - lead - vampire is Irish and talks about his own persecutions and struggles. They also include a couple of phenomenal songs sung by him and his crew. There is also a lot of black people fucking other black people over throughout. It isn't "black vs. white" and even if it was who gives a shit - it's a great film. 8/10. Very fun and unique. This will be in my rotation for a long, long time and the type of film that I insist that people that haven't seen it watch. We need more movies like this. -
They try so hard to overplay their hand, and they still win. Stunning.

Thanks for the responses. @Homesickhorn your post implies that you are in the Kerrville area. If so you can start feeling out how to compile a list of places that need help, some descriptions of what they need done, and when they are ready for people to start showing up. Obviously work crew is also needed. @SurlyGator thank you, let me think about the funding for a day or two. We'll need to buy cleaning supplies, gas, and maybe fans to donate. I don't want to take money until we're ready and be accountable for what we're going to do with it. (No bus ride from Bob here)

We are fucking leading MLB in team ERA. And in runs against. And in WHIP. Maybe I'm not picking up on the sarcasm and this comment is a joke. Oh - also - we're the best fielding team in baseball.

A lineup of Tramon Mark, Chendall Weaver, Cam Heide, Dailyn Swain and Lassina Traore would not be what I would consider slow. Weaver will likely be the most athletic guy on the court. I wonder how much better Xavier would have been last year if Traore wouldn’t have gotten hurt. I think he is going to be awesome for us.

I don’t think he’s wrong though. Unless I misread it. Of course, I’m pretty positive he paid Hunter to come to Jacksonville State. But we would never be able to prove it.

This sounds like some dumb hindsight shit. "We coulda went down there and warned them if it wasn't for our Chief!" Why didn't they go warn the people in Travis/Williamson/Burnet county then? Sounds like they have previous beef with him and are trying to use this event to drum up support for his removal. They would have done the same thing had he sent the teams. They would be bitching about being shorthanded the next day.

As an old, fat, out of shape guy that lives multiple states away, I say good on each and every one of you that partake in this endeavor. Give the rest of us an avenue to support financially. Gas money, supply funds, we can support Seal Team Surly from afar.

I haven't paid attention to AFD inside stuff since I left 4 years ago, and I have purposefully stayed out of the loop. I retired at least in part to get away from that. But yeah, I think they already had some problem with the way he was doing things. They even alluded to previous problems in their vote announcement, whatever they may be. What are those problems? No idea. Are there valid issues? Maybe, but I dunno what they are. I'm not here defending Chief Baker or saying he's a saint. I'm also not looking to throw him under the bus or have him be used as a scapegoat by the lunatics out there like Charlie fucking Kirk. We just don't know much, and the complaint seems very strange to me given what has to be balanced in decisions to send specialized equipment and personnel (that you don't have much of to begin with) 100 miles away when you're probably going to need it in short order - to tell people to leave. The only ones I know of who we know tried to get messages to the locals were the NWS, and for whatever reason the locals apparently weren't seeing them. If it's on anyone to try to get Kerrville/Kerr County's shit together 2 days before the storm, it's the State, who Abbott says was already out there. Not Austin. But even if we were to send people out there to get the word out (rather than just trying to communicate with them from here to take the storm seriously and go alert the public on their own), that still could be done with any number of people that aren't specialized personnel who would likely be needed here along with their apparatus, and it likely wouldn't be just AFD people making the trip. I can't make it make sense to send people out there for the purpose of warning the locals, be they officials or the public. IMHO this is probably over something else that was denied. Maybe they have a point. I dunno. I don't like not jumping into the fray to help, 'cause that's what we do. But I also understand that throughout my career the chiefs often had to make tough, sometimes unpopular decisions, that we didn't always understand or have enough info to make an informed judgement over. I need a lot more info before I can pin this on the chief as some sort of terrible disservice.

Pecos people making Monahans jokes, similar to Alabama people making fun of Mississippi. Is it really that different? At least we have the sandlhills!

Haha fuck him then but his 5th point is spot on. Last time I encountered an aggy lawyer he was wearing that stupid high school ring with an high and tight poorly done hair cut and I lost all respect for him and wiped the floor with him at a hearing. That was before they bought Wesleyan so it was a sad aggy undergrad. At SMU Law my favorite memory was when Prof. Dorsaneo had the Joe Jamail deposition from the Pennzoil case playing as we walked in, good shit lol.

I’m in as well. This town is still in the shock phase of things. Kerrville itself is business as usual, until you approach the river, which is all the time. I feel like the shock is going to wear off soon, and I’m afraid of how (and for how long) that’s going to last. Supplies are abundant; clothing, dry goods, water, etc are all here, and still coming in. Those things are also being donated locally to the point where one entity will tell you to take your load to another because they’re saturated. Let me know what I can do, and I’ll do it.

The commander fella was really sincere about thanking me. The younger dudes (SIL included) were more slap on the back, "man that's good stuff!" thankful but that guy squared me up, stared straight into my eyes, and gave one of those very serious, "Thank you. No, look at me. Thank you" kind of deals. It was unsettling, but not in a bad way if that makes any sense. Of all of them he showed the weight of what they'd been through the most. The comic relief, though, was one of the guys there complaining about how when this was all over he'd have to go back to Pecos, TX. Having lived out that way for a season of my life I completely understood and co-signed his bitching.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen

But not everyone, unfortunately. Although we don't know the North Shore kid is even involved. -
Every school in our county has an emergency response plan that covers pretty much any potential situation from fire, planes crashing into bldgs, WMDs, active shooters and even nuclear accidents. Each school has the same outline for their plan. Once the outline is laid out, then each plan is customized for each school system. For example: layouts of buildings, who is responding from where, how long it will take, etc. This way if their is ever a need for the plan, each responding group will know exactly where to look for pertinent info on just about anything. Saves time and confusion. I can imagine going to a school for a fire and the section for where to shut off electrical power is buried in some obscure bldg description section. So yes, each camp should have a plan that is customized to them, but also follows a standard layout and format, much like an MSDS sheet. Texas is so large that it is quite possible a big catastrophe can strike and the rest of the state can muster what it needs to deal with the response. To what effectiveness I can't guess. But smaller states can get hit and the whole state is now limping along and needs neighbors to come help in times of needs. That state's emergency reserves could have been wiped out or made inaccessible, while their neighbors can get to their own supply, leaving the challenge of transporting it to the areas of need as the biggest impediment. Every town has a fire/EMS department, even the really small ones. And they can handle the day to day, but they can't handle the big ones alone. That is where the idea of other states stepping up through FEMA makes sense. How many Texas firefighters went to California the last go around of wildfires? Hell, we even had Mexico come in and help us in Kerrville and they aren't even a state. WIthout FEMA the smaller and less populated states are at real risk, especially with extreme weather becoming the norm instead of the outlier.

I mean, look at the OP, the guy is a little nuts. Funny as it may be, there's really no need to go there in that particular way. So yeah, he's nuts. Also effective, apparently.
