Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen

Full update from Florida On3 mod Yes I know the buzz thats been out there points to 4-star Kendall Guervil ending up at Texas when he commits on July 2. However, I heard today that he and UF remain in contact, and there is still a feeling on UF's end that they are still battling for him. Most of the info we've heard since he set his commitment date points to Texas. He's named them his No. 1 for a few months, and it's felt like him setting a commitment date while on his Texas OV is telling. Wouldn't say I've heard any sort of confidence or optimism yet on UF's end. Hell, Texas still is confident I'm told. Just passing along that I was told UF doesn't feel like they are out of it as they try to fight for him these last few days before his commitment date. I'm assuming NIL is what the key piece will have to be for this to turn another way. Will update if we hear anything more on this. -
I played for Glenn "Pop" Warner at Cornell in 1906. Obviously we ran the single wing. The forward pass was also legalized that year, but we stuck steadfastly to good 'ol Student Body Right. Unfortunately, the flying wedge had been outlawed on kickoffs back in 1894 and was no longer available to us. John Heisman's first trophy wasn't awarded until 1935; shame I couldn't have stuck around long enough for that. Timing is everything, I guess. Damn, I love these strolls down memory lane.

I watched the first two seasons with everyone else, but skipped the third last summer when I was in the process of moving. After seeing all the comments in this thread about how bad season 3 was, I never watched it. Do I need to watch season 3 to enjoy season 4, or can I just go find a recap of that season and proceed with 4?

IT Florida has had a rough time with DL recruiting in 2026 and there’s some talk they’re upping the NIL offer for Sunshine State four-star Kendall Guervil. We still believe Texas looks good here, but UF is desperate and could make this interesting ahead of his announcement this week. -
This is where one of my cousins with whom I often differ politically stands, though he claims to be "libertarian." He used to live in NYC, but now lives in rural PA. He's freaking out about Mamdani, and going to the fallback of "Dems are too extreme, they're going to make it seem like all Dems are like Mamdami/AOC/the Squad. Here's what I told him: "Maybe the NY Republicans should try to figure out how they let it get this bad? How their party became so out of touch with the voters as to make the state effectively a one party state that then runs amuck with policies that push voters further to the left. Maybe they need some introspection and to figure out where they have gone wrong to allow this democratic socialist to get elected." Which was fun to say. At the same time, he's not wrong - the Republicans are very good at taking an anecdote and extrapolating it (extremely, I may add) to the entirety of all Dems everywhere. It's what's got them hunting us in MN.

That is going to be awesome. I played for Emory Bellard at Westfield High School from 1989 - 1990. Obviously we ran the wishbone back in the day, so I am looking forward to this.

Why do we force kids to attend unfunded public schools where they are likely to get shot and they cannot bring their own firearms to defend themselves? Kids should have the option to work so they can make money for themselves and start investing.

We got Joao Pedro?

They've been big game hunting for years now, but this cycle does seem to be a notch higher with the amount of high-profile OOS guys. Last year, we had 7 top 100 players from Texas (Williams, Lockett, Phillips, Jackson, Terry, Barnes and Townsend). This cycle that number could be as few as 3-4. We were never getting Lee, Roseborough, Ojo, and Turntine, but that is who Gerry continually brought up as top targets when peppered with questions about OL recruiting all spring, so some got it stuck in their mind that those must be the most likely guys to end up in the class. Then, when a few go elsewhere, they wonder what happened. I also think some of what has happened has just been some shitty timing with a bunch of guys who probably weren't ending up here lining up their announcements all in a row. -
fair has nothing to do with it. the expectation is that the Stars will go further than we went last year with better players than the year before (Nill is working on that part). we actually went backwards this season. we only won our division (instead of conference, and almost President's), we had fewer regular season points (106 vs 113) and won one fewer playoff game. so I'd say at least 2023-2024 results or better is the expectation.
-
Well, not making the WCF would be backwards. Winning it would be forward. So I would think that expectations would revolve around making that series

I'd venture to say five days in Paris is plenty and, if she's already been there a few times, I can totally see how your wife wouldn't want to do five days. Paris is beautiful architecturally but it can be one hell of a big city tourist trap and once you've seen the Eifel Tower or Arc, you've seen it. We just did three days and could have done four, but that would have been about all we needed. To each his own, though. We didn't do it on our last trip, but I'd love to do Normandy for a day if we ever went back. We did do a bike tour of Versailles and actually really liked it.

I have a very high opinion of Bobby, but this post is lame. I'm going to go over there and call it out if others haven't. This no more "big boy" of a cycle than the last few. It's been established that you're clearly wrong regarding what Twin Peaks was all about, unsurprisingly. What hasn't been addressed is why you think the demographics of this forum would suggest an interest in show for "teen girls" from the '90s?- 6995 replies

The cycle isn’t over yet. There is ALWAYS late movement at just about every major player. We finished very strongly last year. We’re going to be fun to watch this season and we will get more NIL aggressive. We’ll be fine. Beating UGa and Ohio State in their backyards this year will help perception too. -
While we are at it, Easton Winfield was maybe the worst defensive outfielder I've ever seen at Texas.

They do this every single year if you'll pay attention. Take anything they say up through the start of the season with a grain of salt. They have a much more realistic outlook once we get down to a couple of targets and flip season -
I found out the other day that a family friend’s son who is 21 and with the IDF was killed. Just awful. These are Old friends of my dad’s (who passed away in 2005) so I had not seen them in years and bumped into them in Dallas last week. I’d love to be optimistic about any agreement that curtails the violence and deaths and brings peace and prosperity to that region of the world but it’s been such a part of all of our lives it’s hard to see there will be any end in sight. To me it’s not political. It’s a vital thing to bring about this peace and Idgaf who brings it about. Anyway it was shocking to learn someone I know had lost a loved one to this ever going conflict that makes us all want to rip our hair out. ✌️

RB recruiting was bound to suck this time of year just like DT recruiting did last year at this time. The coaching change has an impact. But if Baxter bounces back and the RBs have a good season it'll come around by signing day. There's also the logjam right now as Baxter is mostly likely going to be back for the 2026 season. So unless Wisner has a good enough season to go pro it's a crowded room. -
Maybe we should start by disqualifying anyone with an Ivy League degree, at least for a little bit.
-
Way easier to find examples of this than teams that have mashed their way to a World Series win.

ESPN projections have Hill going 4th and no one else in 1st round. They are predicting Arch comes back for a 2nd season. -
You can win a world series with them in fact.

Man, I'm going to start unloading my cards. I have so many from my younger years. Anything good in them? Not sure... a bunch of 80s - 90s rookie cards but I'll probably starting eBaying a a bunch of .99 listings.

This is overly simplistic, but does fairly describe a certain part of the Democratic establishment. It's wrong on a few things, most notably the establishment's support for austerity. We've seen a huge shift away from austerity politics among establishment Dems since Obama's presidency. There's literally only a handful of elected Congressional Dems who might still buy in to the austerity shit, and that's because they're dumb enough to genuinely believe it's necessary, economically speaking. The true part (and the part that's really at the heart of what's wrong with the party) is that it's a party of consultants and careerists (we could actually use more opportunists in the Democratic party). The consultants keep their status within the party by insisting on the importance of polls, focus groups, etc. to winning, and the careerists think the point of the party is a jobs program for good soldiers. Those who feel they've waited their turn react more negatively to someone they see as skipping the line than they do to anything Republicans do, because beating Republicans is secondary to maintaining their own place within the party.

Lines like this piss me off. Were we not doing Big Boy recruiting the last two years? We were. We just won more of the battles where Texas was the final one or two or three schools left. This year we aren't. It's not a huge thing as we still are sitting solid and we seem (based on the reporting) have a few players lined up that are leaning Texas for now who if we get we would all be ecstatic about. So what else has changed: I think losing Choice has had an impact. I believe in prior years we had our #1 RB locked in by July 1, but it's not like I have gone off and confirmed that. By all reports, Choice was a very good recruiter. The Changing NIL Landscape. - The change in NIL with the settlement and its impact this year has created a unique one-off. Schools feel that to some extent NIL rules will be equalized this time next year so they are attempting to get in ahead of some of these changes and grandfather in things they think won't count against a cap/etc. Also in general, Texas was ahead of the game with NIL and support along with a small handful of schools and now other schools are catching up. I am still not worried in the slightest though because we should hit on a high enough number of elite players to have an elite class overall. Second, I feel that the staff does an exceptional job at evaluation and some of the players we keep recruiting despite a commitment or circled back to after missing on an initial target (late bloomers or players committed to other schools out of the gate) the last two years have been good. I thought TyAnthony Smith, Kobe Black, and Wardell Mack when I was typing this, but truthfully I can't remember. I'm sure someone in here will correct me if I am wrong. Finally, the staff seems to do an exceptional job of evaluating its roster and finding a transfer player or two or three to lock down at positions of need. So even if we have a hole, we seem to do an exceptional job of finding a transfer as the worst case scenario.
