  1. I think ISU is the win that gets everyone onboard with Sark. That was a masterclass in not panicking and just sticking with your team's identity. Putting Sweat and Murphy out as Captains was just brilliant. He called smart plays most of the game. Mental mistakes kept the score from being even larger and creating a great lead going into the half. I think his culture has fully taken hold. Yes, the loss to OU sucked but the team has recovered nicely and fought through a lot of adversity. It's all right there in front of them. I'm glad Sark shook off a lot of the monkeys off his back this year: can't win more than 7 games, can't win close games, can't hold leads and close out opponents. It's all coming together at the perfect time. I didn't think we'd be ready to enter the SEC at this point but we're more than ready. The schedule also sets up pretty nicely for us with Quinn probably back and Brooks back. This doesn't feel like the fool's gold of Herman. We got to 10 wins without the aid of a bowl game. Also, it's nice to not have a head coach who's a shitbag.
  2. The schedule going forward is Wyoming, Texas St, #4 Marquette, Houston Christian, LSU, Corpus aggy, and UNC Greensboro. I know we all want to beat Marquette to give Shaka a punch in the face after he shit the bed here like a bitch then started winning again with Marquette, but we should be no worse than 10-2 or 9-3 coming out of 2023. Really should be 10-2 as should split Marquette and LSU at least. Disu should be back by mid December but probably not in time for Marquette.
  3. I've been tracking this since we used this thread to make some predictions before the season. I've spoilered what I wrote in early August below for my own entertainment. I feel like 7 out of 10 at this stage of the season is pretty good. I had USC, Iowa and Utah in my top 10 instead of Oregon, Missouri, and Louisville. I don't think anyone picked Mizzou or Louisville in the preseason, so, yeah. I said the Pac 12 was kind of interchangeable at the top and I'd prefer to bet on Williams over Nix since the rumor was that the USC defense was improving. Welp. Things that piss me off as a fan with these rankings: a) Penn State - They're 11th in the AP. They're going to finish the regular season in the top 10 after some upheaval in rivalries and conference title games ahead of them. Why does James Franklin continue to get the benefit of the doubt from anyone? The Big 10 is a bad football league and that fucking idiot shits the bed any time he plays someone of consequence. I don't think PSU would beat another 1 or 2 loss team in the rankings besides Iowa, again. b) LSU - They're the highest ranked 3 loss team. LSU has a good win against a good Missouri team on the road. Besides that, they've lost to the other 3 teams with a pulse on their schedule: FSU, Ole Miss, and Bama. The rest of their games are mostly blowouts against objectively terrible to mediocre teams. c) Oregon State ranked ahead of Arizona - Arizona has a bad loss, at home, in the season opener against Mississippi State. They lost that game in OT by one score. They've lost two other games by one score each, one being in overtime. They've since won 5 straight to get to 8-3. One of those wins in that streak? Oregon State. OSU has 3 losses and the loss to Wazzou is marginally better than the UA loss to Miss State. All 3 losses are close, but head to head should matter. Some of these voters are lazy and likely forgot about the H2H in the first place. d) Tennessee - This team has no business being ranked. UTenn is 7-4. Each of the 4 losses are by two scores or more and 2 of the losses are outright blowouts. Tennessee has beaten: Virginia (3-8), Austin Peay (FCS, they should be ashamed playing them and I'm not looking up their record on principle. It's FCS, fuck you, Tennessee), UTSA (8-3, Frank Harris was hurt this game for UTSA), South Carolina (5-6), ATM (7-4), Kentucky (6-5), and UConn (2-9 - These pussies played UConn and an FCS school.) They finish the season against a pathetic Vanderbilt (2-9) team and will head to a bowl at 8-4. Their signature win is ...??? ATM? UTSA? And we'll get to hear about how tough they are. They'll get matched up in a bowl against some middling, shitsack of a team from the Big 10 or ACC, win the bowl by one score, and then help the SEC declare CFB hegemony yet again.
  4. I'm not so sure the conservative game plan of the last two games has been designed to try to fool Ohio State into thinking they are just going to be an ultra conservative team now. Probably more like "we can be very conservative and still win these two games", and it almost bit them against Maryland. I mean I definitely agree that the general vision of how they want to run the game comes from Harbaugh during the week, but when they're in the stadium and the game is actually happening, Sherrone can't exactly phone a friend back at the hotel and ask whether they should go for it on 4th and 2 from the Ohio State 40 or not. Some of those calls have to come from him in the moment, and it seems like, at least against 2 overmatched opponents, he is more likely to be conservative than to gamble. I'd like to see how he handles it when forced into a position where he basically HAS to roll the dice, he just hasn't been challenged into that yet. It will be interesting to see how the gameplan differs for Ohio State, that's for sure.
  5. Correct. There are not going to be any debates. We are done with presidential elections as we have traditionally known them. And, if Dotard wins, we are done with presidential elections altogether.
  6. I’m just hoping this game isn’t TOO big but I’m thinking we win this dang thing going away. So many great things happen with a win versus a team that will do anything to win but it’s amazing to see a defense we can mostly depend on and players that step up at the critical play.
  7. We're going to get the Kevin Mar crew Friday. I'm pretty confident of that. So I think this will be a nice test as to whether Mar and his cronies actually hate Texas or just acting at the direction of the conference. In Mar's case, I've always assumed he doesn't need instructions or any "winks" to fuck us. He personally enjoys it. But as much as the Big 12 wants to fuck over Texas, this tiebreaker is such a fucking mess that it would really be in their best interest for Texas to just win on Friday and simplify the tiebreaker for the last spot. That is the only scenario with certainty at least according to the Big 12's interpretation of the poorly written rule. Personally I still don't understand based on my reading of it why Texas hasn't clinched but whatever. Don't get me wrong, I fully expect this team to get Mar'd on Friday and have to overcome a bunch of BS just like we did last week. But the Big 12 fucked up their tiebreaker so bad they should actually want Texas to win to save face.
  8. The only pause I have with this game is TTU literally has nothing to lose so I expect them to go for it on 4th down any time it's semi-reasonable. 4th & 8 from your own 40? Go for it. 4th & 2 from your own 30? Go for it. A win here would probably get McGuire a contract extension & a loss means literally nothing. I have us winning 38-24 but if our D isn't ready to play 4 downs & thinks just stopping them on 3rd down is going to cut it then we're in for a game like we had in Lubbock last year. Play aggressive on D & never let up. Our offense shouldn't have too many issues assuming we don't beat ourselves with penalties & missed assignments.
  9. 1. Fuck Tech. We need to beat their ass regardless of whether a conference championship is on the line. They deserve our best shot and to get their ass handed to them. 2. I just want to win the conference on the way out. Period. End of story. 3. All things being equal, it would be nice to play Oklahoma State and go out with scoreboard on everybody. 4. Beating OU in the championship game and redeeming the RRS loss would probably be the best case scenario for the making the playoffs. I'm sure a bunch of wacky shit will happen the last two weeks of the season because college football, but if it comes down to Texas and Oregon, both with similar records and redemption wins, maybe the Bama game (and hopefully a Tech beatdown vs a common opponent) puts us in over them?
  10. https://coacheshotseat.com/ 1. Lincoln Riley, USC – One would think in Lincoln Riley’s 26 th game as the Head Coach of the Mighty USC Trojans that the USC program would be ROLLING and we mean whipping the Hell outta folks but actually in that 26 th game against cross-town rival UCLA Riley’s team… Didn’t even show-up and didn’t seem to ever care that there was a football game on Saturday! How in Hell exactly can your ass be making over $10M a year and you cannot get your football team ready and motivated to play your biggest rival UCLA? That’s Is Lincoln Riley’s Only Damn Job and Riley has Totally Failed in his Only Damn Job and if we were the AD at USC we would have fired Riley’s ass on the field right after the game and when it comes to Worthless Arrogant Bastards like Riley who hasn’t worked… 1 Damn Day of his Life in the Real World …if the Boy is not getting his ass kissed by everyone 24/7 365….think the Dabo Swinney of the West Coast…then in our opinion USC is not going to get… Damn Anything from Riley from here on out so you might as well run his ass now…or run it one year from today! In his last 14 games at USC Lincoln Riley is… 7 – 7 …and the Trojans could have easily lost to… Colorado Arizona California …this season and be looking at a Losing Record in Riley’s second year on the job when many had the Trojans going undefeated in Year 2 of the Riley regime! Everyone with a 2+ IQ knew that after the 2022 season that USC had to fix their Defense and what does Riley do to address that issue? Not One Damn Thing leaving Alex Grinch in charge who he had to fire during the season to at least show his ass was doing something but this goes much deeper than just the USC Defense being a Total Disaster because the Trojans Football Team… Did Not Give 1 Damn Rip about playing against UCLA on Saturday …and for that Riley’s ass should have already been fired and given 30 minutes to get everything cleared-out and off the USC campus! We wrote and said and Tweeted and told anyone that would listen for years that Clay Helton was a Total Disaster and was going to Destroy USC Football if allowed to hang around coaching the Trojans but after his first full 2 seasons on the job as the Head Coach at USC Helton’s record was.. 21 – 6 Lincoln Riley’s record after 2 seasons with a bowl game left… 18 – 8 In Year 3 Clay Helton went 5 – 7 and Clay had a Helluva Lot More coming back to play for the Trojans in Year 3 than what Riley has coming back in 2024 and…wait for it… USC is headed into the Big Ten Conference! USC’s 2024 Football Schedule > LSU – Las Vegas Utah State At Michigan Wisconsin At Minnesota Penn State At Maryland Rutgers At Washington Nebraska At UCLA Notre Dame How many games you think the USC is gonna win next season realizing now that… The USC Football Team has already Totally Quit on Lincoln Riley in 2023! Got another 5, 6, or 7 win season? That is why Lincoln Riley should be fired TODAY before this gets worse….a Helluva Lot Worse!
  11. We are not winning the CFP with this dogshyte secondary. This shouldn't be some groundbreaking revelation here. You are welcome to disagree but as mentioned Washington and Oregon have the QBs to expose it. Milroe is much better now than he was in week 2. Marvin Harrison Jr would have a field day. We have been struggling with B12 scrubs we aren't all the sudden going to win 2 games against top 4 teams.
  12. I will bet you right here, right now, name your price. I dont care if Bama and Georgia go 100 overtimes in the game of the century and we win both our games by 1 on flukes. They wont take a 1 loss Georgia over a 1 loss Texas if the question is there to be had.
  13. TTU is better than this. You can pretty much ignore their games where they relied on Jake Strong. They were going toe to toe with KSU until Morton got knocked out. Then KSU leaned into the Avery Johnson wrinkle and he took the game over. Strong turned the ball over a ton. BYU game was a comedy of errors led by Strong again. They are on a 3 game winning streak with Morton back, but Tahj Brooks makes that offense go. They have a good receiving corps too. The defense is questionable, especially if their stud safety Taylor-Demerson doesn't play. They are very thin at linebacker too. Hutchings gave us trouble last year, but he may be out. E'maurion Banks made some big time plays last night though. This could be a sneaky one if we aren't focused.
  14. We are bizarrely going to make a three to win this fucker
  15. this is how i read it, assuming the only scenario at issue is TX, OU, and OSU being tied for first, with ISU being highest ranked common opp for all 3. here are the actual rules There are two sections to the rules - Section 1 addresses a two way tie (could be a tie for first (two teams at 11-0; issue is seeding) or a tie for second (one team at 11-0; two teams at 10-1; issue is which of the two 10-1 teams get in). Section 2 addresses a 3+ team tie (three+ teams at 10-1; issue is which two teams get in) With 3+ teams (TX, OU, & OSU) tied for first, we start in Section 2. When you run through the Section 2 tiebreaker rules, the first tiebreaking rule doesn't apply because TX, OU, and OSU didn't all play each other. The second tiebreaking rule is record vs next highest common opponent (ISU). Against ISU, Texas and OU are 1-0; OSU is 0-1. Section 2 says After one team has an advantage and is “seeded”, all remaining teams in the multiple-team tiebreaker will repeat the multiple-team tie-breaking procedure. If at any point the multiple-team tie is reduced to two teams, the two-team tie-breaking procedure will be applied. What Alex Loeb seems to be arguing is that after applying the ISU tiebreaker, you then apply the ORANGE SENTENCE to resolve the remaining two-team tie between TX and OU (per Alex - OU wins that one on head to head) - then you go back and re-run tiebreaking rules between OSU and TX, because all that happened in round 1 of tiebreaking was that OU was seeded #1. He's wrong. In the Big XII tiebreaking scheme, the only way to apply the TX vs OU head-to-head tiebreaking rule at this point would be to apply the ORANGE SENTENCE and go to Section 1 tiebreaking rules to resolve TX vs OU. But if you go to to Section 1, it says "if two teams are tied for first place both teams will participate in the championship game and the winner of the head-to-head will be the #1 seed." Boom. Done. End of story. You just can't go that route. Under these particular rules, you can't get from (a) using the ISU tiebreaker in part 2 of Section 2 to eliminate OSU, to (b) applying a head-to-head tiebreaker to resolve TX vs OU without (c) putting TX and OU in the championship game. (He might also be thinking that once you get rid of OSU through the ISU tiebreaker, you go back to part 1 of Section 2 to resolve TX/OU, but there is nothing in the rules that supports this reading.) At best, Loeb could argue that the ORANGE SENTENCE does not apply after the ISU tiebreaker, because even though OSU lost the Section 2 step 2/ISU tiebreaker, the three-way tie hasn't been reduced to two teams for some reason. (This is a terrible misreading based on the phrase IF AT ANY POINT). I can't imagine what the words IF AT ANY POINT could mean here if they wouldn't apply after the ISU tiebreaker. I think the problem is someone at the Big XII read the rules too quickly and didn't "run water through the pipes" (or maybe I am an idiot). They are reading the rules to say, after a tiebreaking rule eliminates one team, you start from the top with the remaining two teams to find the first place team, then start from the top again with the remaining teams. But the words don't say that at all. What they say is: If you start with four+ teams and get to a tiebreaking rule in section 2 where Team A wins over all the others, you re-run the section 2 rules with the remaining 3+. (makes sense - you can't use section 1 rules as they make no sense with 3+ teams) If you start with three teams and get to a tiebreaking rule in section 2 where Team A wins over all the others, you run the section 1 rules with the remaining 2. (makes sense - down to two teams, you can just run the Section 1 rules) Our case is a little bit different, it is: If you start with three teams and get to a tiebreaking rule in section 2 where one team gets eliminated, you run the section 1 rules with the remaining 2. but I still think it makes sense the way the rule is written, given the phrase if at any point.
  16. Valence Effect on full display in this thread. I'm a UT alumnus. Born and raised Texan. Been rooting for UT since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Of course I want us to get in the CFP. Of course I think if we win out, we have a strong case to be in it. But ... Our big win against Alabama was a long time ago. Both teams look far different today. Alabama looks much better and I'd argue we look worse. We haven't been dominant in many games. We've scratched out wins vs. burying teams...unranked teams. We have a lot of injuries to key players (Brooks, Ewers, Worthy, Sanders, etc.). If FSU is going to suffer in the rankings due to not having Travis, then the same could be applied to us. I could easily see some "eye test" argument made in selecting another 1-loss conference champion over Texas (Oregon or Alabama; probably not FSU if they lose to UF and beat Louisville). Oregon is already ranked ahead of us, with the same record and with the same information the committee will have should Oregon and Texas both win out (both teams have already had their losses and their wins...except Oregon will likely have a big win over #4 Washington to bolster their argument). Alabama will have lost to us - "but that was early in the season and they still hadn't figured out what to do with Milroe. Since then, Texas has gotten worse and Alabama has only gotten better. Plus, they just knocked off the 2x defending champions Georgia." Ya'll like to talk about recency...well, Alabama will have just knocked off Georgia. And, for that matter, Georgia will have FINALLY LOST A GAME "to a really, really good Alabama squad." Texas has been in the wilderness for awhile and even while we sucked, we still acted like we owned college football. We're not exactly everybody's favorite right now and we're not going to get favors thrown our way just because "we're Texas." String together a few 10+ win seasons, legitimately be "we're baaaaack", and that'll likely change. But that hasn't happened yet. All that said, FSU losing is our best chance. Oregon/Washington will take care of one of those two and Ohio State/Michigan will take care of one of those. That's 2 spots. FSU loss will bump us up the 3rd spot to #4. Hate that Travis got hurt and definitely wouldn't wish for it to happen like this, but it did, so let's hope it pays off.
  17. My opinion, though basically worthless is this. 1) Quinn came back a little too soon. He's not all the way healthy and his under throws have been both scary and ground gaining on interference calls. 2) IMHO he came back early because he wants to go pro, and playing dinged up is better than not playing, for a number of reasons. Now maybe it a burning desire to play? Or he thought he was healthier than he was? He played hurt when he should have come out to begin with so thre is certainly an argument for that. Maybe he's just an uber competitor and can't stand not being on the field, again played injured, so argument for that. But in my mind he refocused this season because he thought the could make the leap next year. And sitting on the bench, is not going to get him to that goal. But a win, is a win, is a win. But fuck, can't we ever just put up points and put the hammer down on offense? On a positive note, the uncertainty of our games is helping keep the Jack Daniels Distillery chugging along!
  18. Quinn gives us the best chance to win this season. We are having the best season since 2009, so I am going to savor it and be thankful to QE for leading the team. As many have pointed out, he is only in his second year playing in college, playing the most complex position. It's not fair to compare him to Bo Nix or Penix. He is also not often bailed out by his WRs for bad throws. We don't have complete WR talent despite worthy and Michell getting a lot of hype. Both of them have their flaws. Do I wish he had been more consistent? Absolutely. But I also understand why.
  19. Win out and fsu loses and it’s really hard to keep Texas out really hard. PAC 12 and Big 10 both are going to eliminate one of their own in contention. Then committee priorities favor a Texas big 12 champion. Any other scenario is a true beauty co test and we haven’t steamrolled the last 5 weeks unfortunately.
  20. Well, here it is, the final edition of the scheduled regular season tour where we shove it up the asses of the irate 8 who got left behind Texas currently has scoreboard on every single team in the conference (that’s staying here) other than Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. We get the chance to avenge last years loss on the way out the door and leave this series exactly where it belongs for all time, with us wiping our shit smeared dick on their face after we finish fucking them up the ass. The last couple weeks I’ve had a hard time working up any animosity toward TCU and Iowa State because they are so irrelevant to us, who we are as a program and college football in general. Tech, however, has earned a lifetime of hatred and scorn from me. They blew our chance to win the big 12 in Ricky’s senior season, then another chance in 2002, and finally wrecked our national championship dreams in 2008. We cannot go out like bitches and let them screw up important stuff on our agenda. All those scenarios happened in Lubbock and most of them when Tech had a better team than they do this year. We always take care of them in Austin when we have the slightest bit of an inclination to play hard and focused. I’d say we have more than that going on in our favor this week. Tech is a second rate program in a third rate town with a loudmouth high school coach with a low IQ and a propensity for drunk driving. So, sure, he’d fit in around here just fine, I guess, but let’s go ahead and monkey stomp them and then never have to see, hear, play or think of them again. Y’all were cool when you had Mike Leach and then fucked that up in the dumbest way possible only to go back to your historical norm of being uninterested, uninspiring and unsurprisingly mediocre. Game Week notes here fellas. Hook ‘Em High like an Eagle soars and have a happy thanksgiving.
  21. Yeah, that's rational/logical. But unfortunately they dug a deep hole by putting Oregon in front of Texas/Bama in the initial rankings (based on eye test at the time and OU loss making our loss look worse). They would need a "narrative" to explain a change going forward. It doesn't have to be a great explanation, but they need something to explain why it's changed. They could explain Bama jumping over Oregon based on a CCG win against Georgia (more impressive than Oregon beating an undefeated Washington), but I don't think a Texas CCG win over a lower ranked OSU or OU could be argued as a bigger win than Oregon over undefeated Washington. If we win out, I still like our chances, but we'll need help. FSU loss is most likely.
  22. You guys are listening to this bullshit narrative from the media. We’re likely the #2 or #3 as far as talent goes. We’ve dealt with a ton of injuries and generally play to the level of our competition but lets not downplay how good this team is. Which offense besides UGA and Michigan are going to run the ball on us? Bama hasn’t been able to run on us in our last 2 matchups. We’re bigger than most teams on both sides of the lines and we may have the best skill talent in the country outside of Ohio state WRs. Those teams have to play us too. Oh yeah, our QB can be lethal if he’s have a good day. Let’s win out and see where this goes but I’d take Texas against Oregon, FSU, Bama and tOSU. Only teams I’d be worried about are Washington, Michigan and Georgia. Georgia and Michigan can match us with size on the lines and Washington would tear our secondary apart. With that said, we can beat any team when we play our A game.
  23. FSU has lost its QB and they got Florida and Louisville left right? But if we go 12-1 and win the conference title, that would be awesome CFP or no. Not sure we are ready to beat Georgia or Ohio State yet anyway. But obviously it would be more awesome to be 12-1 and be in the CFP. But let's get to 12-1 and see what happens. I think Georgia beats Bama anyway.
  24. We are going to win, so it’s a moo point.
  25. 2008. RIP, Pirate. But, 2008. I was fortunate to have an old friend in town last night to watch the game. We met at Texas 30 years ago. I knew that last night would be a slug fest, but he was already looking forward to Tech. His point - win the slug fest, then beat down Tech. So, here is what’s gonna happen. This team hasn’t put together a complete game yet. Bama was close, but we can be better. We are going to go out and flat out demolish Tech. Then we are going to bookend the Big XII by taking the title. Sark let them hang last night - “5 Star Players, 5 Star Culture. We have both, now.” Let’s do it.
