FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)

I think we shuold win. But they have a pretty damn good front 7 and that has been our biggest problem post Michigan. Our OL is going to have to play a lot better than they did against OU and UGA (and Vandy) and Quinn can't get rattled when we inevitably have some busts that lead to sacks (i.e., we need Florida Quinn and OL play that shrugged off OL bust on first series costing us points). Kentucky solid up front as well so will be a good gauge of where we are offensively headed into that game. -

Same shit, just another tired system coaching tree guy who has no new ideas of his own. They tend to look OK for a couple of years before the game passes them by. He's as fossilized as McCarthy, which we all knew wasn't going to get us where we want to go. Credit to him for 12 win seasons, but still had a hardass ceiling he was never going to break, until the whole thing crumbled. -
Federer's tribute to Nadal. If anyone needs me, I'll be over here letting the dust in my house get to me. "As you get ready to graduate from tennis, I've got a few things to share before I maybe get emotional. Let's start with the obvious: you beat me -- a lot. More than I managed to beat you. You challenged me in ways no one else could. On clay, it felt like I was stepping into your backyard, and you made me work harder than I ever thought I could just to hold my ground. "You made me reimagine my game -- even going so far as to change the size of my racquet head, hoping for any edge. I'm not a very superstitious person, but you took it to the next level. Your whole process. All those rituals. "Assembling your water bottles like toy soldiers in formation, fixing your hair, adjusting your underwear... All of it with the highest intensity. Secretly, I kind of loved the whole thing. Because it was so unique -- it was so you. "And you know what, Rafa, you made me enjoy the game even more. OK, maybe not at first. After the 2004 Australian Open, I achieved the No. 1 ranking for the first time. I thought I was on top of the world. And I was -- until two months later, when you walked on the court in Miami in your red sleeveless shirt, showing off those biceps, and you beat me convincingly. All that buzz I'd been hearing about you -- about this amazing young player from Mallorca, a generational talent, probably going to win a major someday -- it wasn't just hype. "We were both at the start of our journey and it's one we ended up taking together. Twenty years later, Rafa, I have to say: What an incredible run you've had. Including 14 French Opens -- historic! You made Spain proud ... you made the whole tennis world proud. "My final match. It meant everything to me that you were there by my side -- not as my rival but as my doubles partner. Sharing the court with you that night, and sharing those tears, will forever be one of the most special moments of my career. "Rafa, I know you're focused on the last stretch of your epic career. We will talk when it's done. For now, I just want to congratulate your family and team, who all played a massive role in your success. And I want you to know that your old friend is always cheering for you, and will be cheering just as loud for everything you do next."

i’m going to name some qbs, and i’ll ask you to think of the times that they led- truly led- Texas to a victory via their leadership and on-field play, particularly in tight/big games. •peter gardere •james brown •major applewhite •chance mock •vince young •colt mccoy •case mccoy •tyrone swoopes •sam ehlinger •arch manning •quinn ewers now ask yourself: with all of the wins we’ve had during QE’s time as a starter, why doesn’t he immediately have more famous wins come to mind than the likes of, say, james brown, major applewhite, or sam ehlinger? we all thought of the game in tuscaloosa when we saw quinn’s name, but what else? how many times has our third year, “heisman candidate/no.1 overall pick”, $1M NIL QB actually led his team to a win with his leadership and play? not many. i’m not saying he’s all hat and no cattle, but is like 90/10. our defense, coaching, and stockpile of nfl talent has been winning us games while our superstar QB has largely been a passenger. -

One of the best, and I think my first, incredible aggy rollercoaster derailment - which we called at the time a choke - happened in the 1963 game that solidified our #1 ranking (over #2 Navy and Roger Staubach). On odd-number years, T-Day game was in College Station. It was chilly and wet. We scored first, FG by Shoeless Tony Crosby, and led 3-0. aggy came back with a couple of TDs, one in 2Q and another in 3Q, missed the xp on the second one, and was up 13-3 in the 4th quarter. We scored early, went for 2, didn't get it: 13-9 aggy. aggy had only won a couple of games all year, and they pulled out all the stops. One of their scores was a trick play, where the QB lateraled to a WR, and bounced the ball. I swear the nearest official waved incomplete, but maybe not. It worked as intended - the Texas D pulled up, and the WR threw a long pass to a wide-open ag. Damn. With the clock running out, Texas mounted a drive, but then... disaster! Our pass was intercepted, and aggy just needed to take a knee and run the clock for the supremely satisfying win. That wasn't enough for the ags, though... the interceptor apparently wanted glory, a pick-6 to cap off one for the ages. He tried to run it back, but was quickly corralled. Instead of going down, though, he tried to pitch it to a teammate. The ball went flying, Texas recovered it, with a fresh set of downs because of the double change of possession. Texas drove and Duke Carlisle punched the ball in from the goal line with a minute left. We went for 2 - again - and didn't get it - again. But 15-13 Texas. aggy had yet another massive choke to add to their heritage, and we had a New Year's Day shot at Roger Staubach and the Midshipmen. But that's another story.

Here is the issue regarding Quinn and Arch - At this point in the season we can't just put Arch in and say go get em. He's had hardly any real live game experience outside of 2 games earlier in the season. Sark and Quinn aren't putting away teams enough to give Arch any quality snaps. We have to roll with Quinn no matter what or we're fucked and we aren't doing shit in the playoffs. I would absolutely love to see what Arch could do, but realistically he probably doesn't do much. It's maddening watching Quinn play, but you have to go with experience and this defense to keep us in the NC hunt. I really think next season Arch will dominate, but we aren't gonna see that against Kentucky or aggy. It sucks going in circles with Quinn, but he at least finds ways to move the ball in some miraculous ways. It won't be Quinn who wins us a NC (assuming we make it there), it will be this defense. They're literally the only thing keeping this team at 9-1, and shutting down Georgia for the most part. It's too late in the season for us to plug in Arch. This was the same shit Mack would do. He wouldn't put teams away so we could get our heir any game time experience. Quinn is who he is. He isn't changing, and he isn't going to be lighting teams up aside from maybe 1 or 2 games. We'll see who he really can be in the playoffs. Sark still has him on training wheels, which is why we aren't seeing different routes. We're also down to two small RB's that Sark can't understand they aren't big enough to run through tackles. I don't know what the deal is with not playing Gibson more, but something has to give. We're 10 games into the season, he just had a 100 yard game, and then he disappears against Arky. I don't know what the fuck is going on in Sark's head, but he needs to pull it out of his ass and get more players involved. We're literally hanging on to and hoping Bond, Golden, or Moore to get us TD's. Same with Blue and Wisner. It's like Sark didn't learn from the Georgia game that both Blue and Wisner can be shut down easily. Also Quinn throwing to the flat that either hits the ground, Blue drops it, or Blue catches it and get tackled and loses yards. So basically, we have to hope new shit comes to light in the next 2 games and Quinn either goes ape shit for 5 TD's like against UF, or out defense gods ape shit like they did against Arky. There seems to be no middle ground other than self-sacking or dump offs. -

Scattershooting... November fatigue is real for teams with depth problems. Heard a few analysts talk about Oregon struggles in their night game @Whisky being predictable due to so much travel and no bye game since September. One commentator thought it was probably helpful for Oregon to be tested in a tight game. ______ Also thought the following info from Kirby was interesting: “Kirby also talked about planning for the Playoff,” Finebaum said. “I mean, this is in the off-season. He essentially said we knew were going to lose a game or two. We just didn’t know to what degree. He was planning for a 16, 17, 18 game schedule, not the predictable 12 game schedule.” ______ An old ballcoach once said that the same team doesn't show up every week in a 12 game season and 1 or 2 challenging regular season games can be helpful before the playoffs. Also, when you play an opponent during your schedule factors into how well your team might play. example #1: Texas plays jawja in a physical home game then travels to Vandy the following week and struggles. 2nd example: Catching the gators in Austin with their 3rd string QB starting. ______ All of the above was to set the table for discussions on how the heck do CFB coaches have to adjust to a 15/16 game season??? I'm glad that Sark has been able to rotate more players during the first 10 games and still currently have only 1 loss. Matchups in the 12 team playoff bracket may be every bit as critical to winning as having the best team. Sometimes it can come down to styles that are a tough matchup. The example I use here is Vandy can beat Bama early in the season because Vandy is not banged up and Bama's defense while decent was not that physical. By the time Vandy played a very physical S.Carolina team with no bye week since Sept they were toast. So which teams will Texas matchup better against in the CFP playoffs if we get there??? Obviously jawja's defense seems like our kryptonite. 😬 Finally, just wondering how much having an easier playoff draw will likely factor into winning this new 12 team plays ??? _______ Possible Seeds #5 PennSt vs #12 BoiseSt then #4 Colorado #6 Georgia vs #11 Indy then #3 Miami #7 OhioSt vs #10 Bama then #2 TEXAS #8 ND vs #9 OleMiss then #1 Oregon -
Coming off that embarrassment to Philly and more time for their QB to settle in will have Dallas playing above their water level, but there isn't an aspect of the game where we shouldn't outshine them. Dallas gets good QB pressure so OLine needs to make another big step forward. We're good, they're bad. Let's go get win #7.
-
Dude it was a joke - of course the score isn’t going to be 3-0. I was referencing your remark about it getting ugly. Our defense is better than any they have seen. You expect them to beat us so bad it’ll get ugly. We can lose but it won’t be ugly except losing of course. But if it was 3-0 win for the horns I would be happy but wtf happened.

That's just you, though. Arkansas has been down for decades, but they do not deserve to be put into the same bucket as Tech. Tech has been a dreg of CFB for all but a small subset of years. Arkansas was a national power for decades and lays claim to a legitimate national title. As to the rivalry bit, there's zero doubt that those folks view Texas as a rival. However, even that has changed over the years. There was zero heat from Arkansas fans before, during or after the game this time in Fayetteville. The mood in the stadium was surreally one of a boredom and resolution. The stands got a little loud when the score was briefly 13-10, but was quickly diminished and back to the overarching mood. I was told by opposing fans on Saturday on multiple occasions that they were a basketball and baseball school now. Multiple folks went on about how excited they were about their cherished Omahawgs and how they were finally going to win it all this year. I laughed a lot inside at the premise that these people are calling themselves a baseball school when they're one of the chokiest baseball programs of all time and have never won a national title. That said, we are going to feel the rivalry heat from Arkansas in both basketball and baseball, and that will be awesome.

No idea how this site is working but it's nonsense. In a scenario where we beat Kentucky and lose to A&M, it has the 4 SEC teams as Bama, Ole Miss, TN and TX. So not only do we assume the committee ignores the H2H win and punishes A&M for losing in the SEC championship game (which I don't think is likely), it either assumes UGA is going to lose to Ga Tech or that the committee would ignore not only the H2H win @ Texas but also ignore win against TN and slot them behind both. Zero chance that would ever happen.

Texas A&M Recruiting 2025: The Land of Melk & No Money
Longhornfrenzy replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
Muff chin Segment 1 (00:00:00 - 03:42:08) Texas A&M is literally on top with a 5-1 record in the SEC. I ran into Chris Valletta. He is one of our most successful former players. He is in town today with Amplify U, which he helped start. He is one of the real success stories. He was also a pretty good offensive lineman back in the day. Segment 2 (03:42:09 - 16:20:09) We know that this is not a team that can play down. They don't have that margin of error, but they have played very well when they play up. I thought Marcel Reed made some beautiful throws. I am still concerned about short yardage without Le'Veon Moss and Chase Bisontis against the really good SEC fronts they're about to face. Do I wish that they would have played better for four quarters? Sure. Do I wish Conner Weigman and Reed didn't make any ill-advised throws in the red zone? Sure. The reality is that they haven't played a football game in two weeks. They played a non-conference game that they knew they were going to win. When you go up 24-0 a minute into the second quarter, there shouldn't be so much negativity after this game. I have seen some bad A&M teams beat up on patsies, and some good A&M teams come out slow and sluggish. The main thing was to shake off some rust and get your starters out early so other people could play. We saw an eye-opening performance by Malick Sylla, and Mike Elko said it, too. It was from him Cashius Howell and Rylan Kennedy. Could they have played better? Absolutely. Whether they beat Auburn by 17 points or lose that game, I don't think what we saw on Saturday has any carryover effect. I don't think anyone is fooling themselves and thinking that they are going to roll through either of these last two games. They're going to have to grind out wins. I agree with one thing about the penalties: You will not have the same margin for error at Jordan-Hare against Auburn or Kyle Field against Texas. Segment 3 (16:20:10 - 17:06:21) You are playing for an SEC Championship. Forget the playoffs right now. You are two games away from playing for an SEC title for the first time. Segment 4 (17:06:22 - 33:26:01) I want smart people to do the CFP rankings. I don't want dumbasses doing my rankings anymore. If you're incapable of critical thinking and analysis without leaning into your computer models and nonsense, then I don't want you on that committee. I think an element of the computer has to factor in things. It's unlike a pro sports playoff element where you have schedules, divisions and leagues. I want common sense on committees. This guy Warde Manuel with an E... It just throws you off. Drop the E, and instead of picking up the E, pick up some common sense when you're answering questions about the playoff. Why is it that every year, they prop someone up at the head of one of these committees who comes off as completely incompetent and inept? That can't answer simple questions anyone closely following college football can answer. If A&M goes 10-3 and loses the title game, that's the only debate. I'm not looking at numbers. Common sense would tell you that they would be in over Tennessee. Does the committee have the balls to drop teams significantly when they lose? Miami should have dropped like a damn rock because of how they looked all year. Miami lost to Georgia Tech. Miami should have dropped more than Georgia dropped. If Texas loses to A&M, they should drop out of the playoff. They might win a national title. They might come into Kyle Field and win. Beat Alabama in the SEC Championship. They might run it. I think they are more flawed than people think. If they don't beat A&M, I will watch the Texas Longhorns and go, "They definitely look like one of the twelve best teams in the country." But if we’re talking about resume, and you only play two top-25 teams in the country, and you lose to both of them... Versus what other teams in the discussion have accomplished, how can you honestly say they deserve to be in? That is a big if. Texas needs to beat A&M. I do not think that Texas losing to A&M knocks them out of the playoffs. I'm not saying it will. However, if you look into the SEC and start comparing resumes and think that the most you'll get in the playoff is four, how will you put them in over A&M, Georgia, Alabama or Ole Miss? Is Texas a top 12 team? Yes. I'm just saying that these committees have them at three. These teams that haven't beaten anyone, if you take a second loss and you don't have that win, then you should go. We let you in the club, and we were skeptical about the way you dressed, or if your ID was legit or not, and damn it, you proved that we made a mistake. Tennessee has a quality win. Ole Miss has a quality win or two. Alabama has a quality win, and Georgia has a quality win. I wouldn't say A&M has one yet because of how LSU is panning out, but if they beat Texas, they'll have a quality win. There would be only one team in the discussion that doesn't have a quality win. Who is SMU's quality win? I know it's a great story, but is it Disney or college football? A&M can get that quality win in two weeks, but none of it matters unless they take care of business against Auburn. Texas is a 20-point favorite against Kentucky at home. They're not losing that. A&M is a one-point favorite at Auburn at night. This is an Auburn team that beat the brakes off of Kentucky. This is a dangerous game, and we know it. Segment 5 (33:26:02 - 37:56:02) Losing Husan Longstreet is a big loss. You wanted a quarterback in this class and no longer have that two weeks before signing day. That is not a failure on A&M's side. They went all in on a quarterback from California who grew up liking USC. I agree that is a risk, but everything went how it should have. The Collin Klein relationship with Longstreet is incredible. His brother, Kevin Longstreet Jr., is here. A&M is winning big games. USC is a humiliation project every Saturday with Lincoln Riley. Their play on the field has been worse than his brisket. Riley has many Heisman trophies and first-round quarterbacks. More than that, it is Longstreet's hometown team. The Aggie coaching staff could have done nothing more. Based on how it went down, I would imagine this one is over. I am not bitter about it. If Elko had been here last year, I think DJ Lagway could have been here. It is a tough loss. You wish he had done this sooner. Watching a team barely beat a horrifically bad Nebraska team in front of 147 people and flipping your commitment tells me that was going to happen anyway. It is up to the Aggies to adjust. Segment 6 (37:56:03 - 39:20:06) You have to play clean and winning football in Auburn. You have to be tough and physical. That is what Auburn is. D.J. Durkin will have a good scheme. Olin Buchanan thinks he is the worst defensive coordinator ever. He proved otherwise when he was here. Auburn is No. 3 in the SEC in total defense. They are middle of the pack in scoring defense because their offense turns the ball over so much. Isaiah Raikes is over there on the defensive line. Jarquez Hunter is a guy that Texas A&M recruited. Cam Coleman was a longtime commit. It is a toughness check. If you want to be one of the teams left standing that we talked about, this is a game you have to win -
That is one of the few spots where Red Star is trying to help, being the closest to UT there are multiple students who play there, it has student rates on Sun & Tues, and it allows most of them to at least play a normal game until all hell breaks loose and they leave. But to your point this story actually happened 2+ week ago at Red Star, I heard the story from 4 diff regulars and they all confimed the story as told below. one UT kid- a bi-weekly player on those 2 days.. who had run up his $100 buyin to $1100+ was at the table when 2 of the maniacs showed up, and juiced the shit out of the table. quickly blind shoving all in, getting money all over the table, them doubling/ trippling each other up and suddenly everyone had at least $800 in front when one of the maniacs blind shoves UTG for more than $1200. folds around to the BB, who is the kid with the $1100 in front of him. kid has AKo.... takes forever to decide and finally open mucks it. Almost the whole table loses their mind, going "WTF man, who fucking folds AK there to a blind shove, HOLY SHIT MAN! , WTF..... and then... WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE PLAYING IF YOU WONT PLAY THAT?" kid sits there meekly for 1 or 2 more hands and leaves. He hasnt been back. and I wonder if he ever will be back. and yes to us playing this game for years, $1100 while a nice amount of money, losing it in agonizing fashion with AK is aggravating as fuck.... but we also arent a college student with limited funds. I heard the story the next day when I came to play and everyone was still telling the story berating the player in absentia asking everyone.. "would you have folded AK off to an open jam by Known Maniac????" and of course everyone is laughing saying no way. I was the first to point out to everyone that as a college student without a fuckload of money there is a damn good possibility that the kid was playing well above his dollar comfort level, hell he might have honestly been at his playing bankroll number for the entire month. I mean yeah, if the game gets that big and you arent comfortable anymore you should leave... but I also understand the feeling of... "Ive turned $100 into $1100 and against a random hand AK is winning only 60% of the time... losing it all now would suck" and reminding everyone of this crazy shit below where the guy was so in the stratosphere of money level that he couldnt afford to lose but he was obligated to sit there and keep playing until the show runtime was over, so he kept folding all his hands... even when he got AA he folded and if he hadnt folded AA...

If we win the CFP I will come back and eat all the crow in the world and will be the happiest poster on this site because it will mean QE is headed to the NFL. Winning the SEC and QE going to the NFL are the two things I care about this season since we goat fucked all the opportunities to bring Arch in productively against top flight defenses because Sark is so sensitive about the QB controversy. Whatever we get in the CFP past the first round will be house money IMHO. -

I agree with this statement. I know people refuse to believe this, but the reality is is each game he’s making at least one pass where I’m surprised he was able to go through his progressions to the 3rd option and fire a strike. Maybe it’s because I’ve come to expect less and less of him since the OU game, but I I’m happy to be pleasantly surprised. It’s not just dump offs either. I’d have to go back and rewatch the Arky game, but I remember one where he connected on a first down over the middle and it was his 3rd option. Palmer, as bad as he was on color Saturday, even called it out as a great play by Quinn, and it was. We should at least attempt to be accurate in our critiques of Quinn. He’s struggled/struggling with deep ball accuracy, pocket presence/self sacking, and he’s not running and taking off for the free yards that are being given as frequently as he could. If he had a bit more fiery leadership, it may be easier to forgive his short comings. Put me in the camp of having Ewers be more aggressive running the ball when it’s there for Aggy and beyond. Quinn has plus, if not great accuracy and touch in the short to intermediate game. Quinn leads receivers in motion to give them their best chance at YAC. Quinn throws an incredibly catchable ball, Wingo and Moore drops recently be damned. Watching other games in the SEC recently, it became even more apparent how catchable his balls are than say Nussmeier or Sellers. I say all this to say, we could be a lot worse off than Quinn Ewers at starting QB. Quinn has looked terrific at times in his tenure and also ass my dude at times. I also am undecided as to whether this team looks better on offense if Arch were to have started the entire year. We saw Arch start against arguably our 2 easiest opponents all year, and in one game he looked phenomenal, and in another he looked like a freshman QB. The definition of inconsistent. His ceiling is undoubtedly high. If Sark truly believes QE gives us our best chance to win a title this year, I’m willing to believe in Sark. He has brought us back from absolute irrelevance to 2 straight years of going to or being on track to make the CFP. Sark and the core of this team, inclusive of QE, are the very reason why our expectations have become sky high and why there’s so much hand wringing over the guy under center who should lead us to the promised land. -
Game Week Thread Game Week 13: Kentucky at Texas
Mitch Cumsteen replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
I've spent a decent amount of time in Lexington, and I also really like the area. The rolling hills and the horse farms in the countryside are beautiful. The city itself has a good vibe, a neat downtown, and surprisingly good restaurants. I highly recommend it for a road trip. With regard to the game Saturday... I don't see how we lose barring a rash of turnovers or special teams fuck ups. On paper this looks like a classic trap game -- nestled between rival road games against Arkansas and A&M, with Kentucky essentially having two weeks to prepare. Kentucky is completely bipolar. Who knows how they are going to show up on Saturday? Outside of Florida, they haven't given up many points to anyone. Unless they've quit on Stoops, which is a distinct possibility, this feels like an ugly win where we complain about Ewers and the offense afterward but are in control most of the way. I don't care. Just win baby. -

Talk to a 'bama fan, they'll tell you we kicked their ass. (And then they'll say we didn't get late-season Milroe.) Fans tend to focus on offense, and the 'bama game was just more dynamic (454/362 total yards versus 315/231 against Arkansas). Furthermore, 'bama was a 7 point favorite whereas we were a 14 point favorite over Arkansas. Both games ended with no attempt at a FG to make it a 13 point differential, which would have just about nailed the Vegas line on Saturday. Texas fans really need to embrace the fact that this is an elite defensive team with a "good" offense, and wins are often going to look ugly. -

Hope in one hand and shit in the other, see which fills up first. Quinn needs to either get right or get healthy, and get back to where he was vs. Michigan, or Sark needs to play Manning. Quinn just can't do it right now, none of know exactly what is going on but there's times when he's holding back the team and obviously not giving us the best chance to win. Just throw away another year when we should be winning the National Championship? No thanks. -
BoB pisses off another QB, who then quits Boston College quarterback gets benched, quits team The current system in place allows, encourages and even rewards players for leaving their teams at certain points in the calendar. This isn't one of those cases. Zach Barnett Nov 15, 2024 We're in a long-overdue player empowerment era in college football. Seemingly overnight, players have gone from being forced to sit out a year and in some cases needing their former coach's permission to transfer certain places to full-blown free agency twice a year, under a system that encourages players to put themselves on the open market as often as possible in order to extract as much value as they can from the system in place. This system may come to an end somewhat soon-ish, but in the meantime it's become commonplace, even expected, for players to put their own interests above their team's. In the vast majority of cases, it's hard to criticize the player -- major college football is a big business, programs look out for their own interests above an individual player's, and, again, the system allows/encourages/rewards such behavior. This, in my opinion, is not one of these cases. Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien announced a quarterback change, elevating backup Grayson James over starter Thomas Castellanos. In response, Castellanos made his own announcement -- he's leaving the team, effective immediately. Castellanos never comes out and says he's leaving the team, but the implication is clear: an Eagle on Thursday, a free agent on Thursday. This isn't a situation where the system incentivizes Castellanos to leave now. He played in eight of Boston College's nine games to date, and was BC's starter until James replaced him midway through last week's Syracuse game, which the Eagles came back to win with James on the field. This year counts against Castellanos's eligibility; assuming eligibility clocks still exist next season, he'll be a senior somewhere else in 2025. This isn't a bowl game opt-out, either. Boston College still has three games -- a quarter of its season -- remaining. At 5-4, BC needs to defeat one of No. 14 SMU, North Carolina or Pitt to earn the right to extend its season into December. And speaking of December, the transfer portal doesn't technically open until Dec. 9. Officially, legally, there's nothing stopping or even dis-incentivizing Castellanos from remaining with the team through its Nov. 30 regular-season finale and then fielding offers once the portal opens nine days later. Nothing in this player-friendly system penalizes Castellanos from finishing the season as an Eagle, nor does it punish him for remaining with the team. He's decided to leave the team anyway, which is his right as an American. But the coverage of Castellanos's exit doesn't tell the full story. He "announced transfer." He "exited." He "made a decision." He "stepped away from the program." None of those are wrong, but they don't tell the full truth, either. He quit the team. "We wish Tommy the best," O'Brien told WEEI. We think very highly of him, and we wish him the best. But we’re going to rally around Grayson. We have a lot of confidence in Grayson." Castellanos will likely step into a starting job wherever he lands. He started a season and two-thirds at BC, firing 18 touchdowns against five picks this season while adding nearly 200 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The supply and demand of major college football favors Castellanos, with more QB1 jobs available than there are quarterbacks who've proven they can produce at a high level. And that's fine. Along with his former program that was his current program as of 24 hours ago, we here with Castellanos nothing but the best moving forward. We also just want to be honest about what's happened here.

RT isn’t a top coach, and at UT we should be able to get someone at that level. But a lot of people think Shaka is a top coach and RT is doing a lot better than he did at Texas. I will say that the teams play hard under RT and get better as the year goes on. Sometimes hard coaches like Barnes and Beard burn teams out and they get so gun shy that they crumble in tough situations. RT is also a great recruiter, both at the high school level and in the portal, so the floor is going to be pretty high. In the end we are in the worst possible place. We are going to make the tourney just about every year. We will be in the 20-30 range and win a game. Maybe we will occasionally make a run. But I don’t see us ever having an ELITE team, and we will be good enough that firing RT will be difficult. And there will be no guarantees that his successor will be substantially better.

uh, no. if RT was capable of that he would have shown it years ago at his previous jobs. let’s not get crazy here. barnes has a resume at Texas that will not be touched for a long time. Beard had the opportunity to actually exceed what barnes did at Texas, but he obviously blew it. RT is not going to win 400 games and go to 16 tourneys in 17 years at Texas. we can support RT without going crazy hyperbolic.

FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)
LTtxfan replied to TKthunder2's topic in Football
The Georgia Bulldogs have had issues with the College Football Playoff selection committee rankings. In particular, with how this year’s selection committee has evaluated strength of schedule. At times, Georgia’s frustrations have extended to Texas, a fellow member of the SEC. It’s rare that one conference member may be critical of another, but as Paul Finebaum explained on The Matt Barrie Show, the Bulldogs have expressed that frustration, and that talk does hold merit. “For the Georgia people, and I’ve talked to Josh Brooks the athletic director who took a wild haymaker at the committee on Friday on our program and Kirby and all of the things that we’ve talked about,” Finebaum said. “They just looked at not only the schedule, and there was a little bit of talk about the Texas schedule from the Georgia people as well. I know that verboten in the SEC to talk about one of your brothers but I heard plenty of people say that Texas has had the easiest SEC schedule since Tulane was a member in the ’60s and I think you could back that up.” This is Texas’ first season in the SEC. That expansion has ended divisions and has, seemingly, led to some uneven schedules in terms of difficulty. Georgia, for instance, has to play five games against currently ranked teams, including a non-conference game against Clemson. To this point, Texas’ only ranked opponent is Georgia, a game the Bulldogs won. The Longhorns will also play Texas A&M. “But it was about that Clemson game,” Finebaum said. “They really are proud that they wrap their arms around playing schools like Oregon and Notre Dame and schools like that, even though last year, if you remember, they had the easiest schedule in the country. But I feel like they have been righted.” With Georgia’s win over Tennessee, the Bulldogs are, likely, in a comfortable position to make it to the Playoff. Now, the question is about being prepared for that deep run. “Kirby also talked about planning for the Playoff,” Finebaum said. “I mean, this is in the off-season. He essentially said we knew were going to lose a game or two. We just didn’t know to what degree. He was planning for a 16, 17, 18 game schedule, not the predictable 12 game schedule.” For the time being, Texas remains the top-ranked team in the SEC. That is unlikely to change without the Longhorns suffering a second loss. However, the next rankings will be revealed on Tuesday night, adding some clarity on how the selection committee views these teams.
