BoB pisses off another QB, who then quits Boston College quarterback gets benched, quits team The current system in place allows, encourages and even rewards players for leaving their teams at certain points in the calendar. This isn't one of those cases. Zach Barnett Nov 15, 2024 We're in a long-overdue player empowerment era in college football. Seemingly overnight, players have gone from being forced to sit out a year and in some cases needing their former coach's permission to transfer certain places to full-blown free agency twice a year, under a system that encourages players to put themselves on the open market as often as possible in order to extract as much value as they can from the system in place. This system may come to an end somewhat soon-ish, but in the meantime it's become commonplace, even expected, for players to put their own interests above their team's. In the vast majority of cases, it's hard to criticize the player -- major college football is a big business, programs look out for their own interests above an individual player's, and, again, the system allows/encourages/rewards such behavior. This, in my opinion, is not one of these cases. Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien announced a quarterback change, elevating backup Grayson James over starter Thomas Castellanos. In response, Castellanos made his own announcement -- he's leaving the team, effective immediately. Castellanos never comes out and says he's leaving the team, but the implication is clear: an Eagle on Thursday, a free agent on Thursday. This isn't a situation where the system incentivizes Castellanos to leave now. He played in eight of Boston College's nine games to date, and was BC's starter until James replaced him midway through last week's Syracuse game, which the Eagles came back to win with James on the field. This year counts against Castellanos's eligibility; assuming eligibility clocks still exist next season, he'll be a senior somewhere else in 2025. This isn't a bowl game opt-out, either. Boston College still has three games -- a quarter of its season -- remaining. At 5-4, BC needs to defeat one of No. 14 SMU, North Carolina or Pitt to earn the right to extend its season into December. And speaking of December, the transfer portal doesn't technically open until Dec. 9. Officially, legally, there's nothing stopping or even dis-incentivizing Castellanos from remaining with the team through its Nov. 30 regular-season finale and then fielding offers once the portal opens nine days later. Nothing in this player-friendly system penalizes Castellanos from finishing the season as an Eagle, nor does it punish him for remaining with the team. He's decided to leave the team anyway, which is his right as an American. But the coverage of Castellanos's exit doesn't tell the full story. He "announced transfer." He "exited." He "made a decision." He "stepped away from the program." None of those are wrong, but they don't tell the full truth, either. He quit the team. "We wish Tommy the best," O'Brien told WEEI. We think very highly of him, and we wish him the best. But we’re going to rally around Grayson. We have a lot of confidence in Grayson." Castellanos will likely step into a starting job wherever he lands. He started a season and two-thirds at BC, firing 18 touchdowns against five picks this season while adding nearly 200 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The supply and demand of major college football favors Castellanos, with more QB1 jobs available than there are quarterbacks who've proven they can produce at a high level. And that's fine. Along with his former program that was his current program as of 24 hours ago, we here with Castellanos nothing but the best moving forward. We also just want to be honest about what's happened here.

RT isn’t a top coach, and at UT we should be able to get someone at that level. But a lot of people think Shaka is a top coach and RT is doing a lot better than he did at Texas. I will say that the teams play hard under RT and get better as the year goes on. Sometimes hard coaches like Barnes and Beard burn teams out and they get so gun shy that they crumble in tough situations. RT is also a great recruiter, both at the high school level and in the portal, so the floor is going to be pretty high. In the end we are in the worst possible place. We are going to make the tourney just about every year. We will be in the 20-30 range and win a game. Maybe we will occasionally make a run. But I don’t see us ever having an ELITE team, and we will be good enough that firing RT will be difficult. And there will be no guarantees that his successor will be substantially better.

uh, no. if RT was capable of that he would have shown it years ago at his previous jobs. let’s not get crazy here. barnes has a resume at Texas that will not be touched for a long time. Beard had the opportunity to actually exceed what barnes did at Texas, but he obviously blew it. RT is not going to win 400 games and go to 16 tourneys in 17 years at Texas. we can support RT without going crazy hyperbolic.

FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)
LTtxfan replied to TKthunder2's topic in Football
The Georgia Bulldogs have had issues with the College Football Playoff selection committee rankings. In particular, with how this year’s selection committee has evaluated strength of schedule. At times, Georgia’s frustrations have extended to Texas, a fellow member of the SEC. It’s rare that one conference member may be critical of another, but as Paul Finebaum explained on The Matt Barrie Show, the Bulldogs have expressed that frustration, and that talk does hold merit. “For the Georgia people, and I’ve talked to Josh Brooks the athletic director who took a wild haymaker at the committee on Friday on our program and Kirby and all of the things that we’ve talked about,” Finebaum said. “They just looked at not only the schedule, and there was a little bit of talk about the Texas schedule from the Georgia people as well. I know that verboten in the SEC to talk about one of your brothers but I heard plenty of people say that Texas has had the easiest SEC schedule since Tulane was a member in the ’60s and I think you could back that up.” This is Texas’ first season in the SEC. That expansion has ended divisions and has, seemingly, led to some uneven schedules in terms of difficulty. Georgia, for instance, has to play five games against currently ranked teams, including a non-conference game against Clemson. To this point, Texas’ only ranked opponent is Georgia, a game the Bulldogs won. The Longhorns will also play Texas A&M. “But it was about that Clemson game,” Finebaum said. “They really are proud that they wrap their arms around playing schools like Oregon and Notre Dame and schools like that, even though last year, if you remember, they had the easiest schedule in the country. But I feel like they have been righted.” With Georgia’s win over Tennessee, the Bulldogs are, likely, in a comfortable position to make it to the Playoff. Now, the question is about being prepared for that deep run. “Kirby also talked about planning for the Playoff,” Finebaum said. “I mean, this is in the off-season. He essentially said we knew were going to lose a game or two. We just didn’t know to what degree. He was planning for a 16, 17, 18 game schedule, not the predictable 12 game schedule.” For the time being, Texas remains the top-ranked team in the SEC. That is unlikely to change without the Longhorns suffering a second loss. However, the next rankings will be revealed on Tuesday night, adding some clarity on how the selection committee views these teams. -
i wouldn’t post this if i thought it would start a new round of slap fighting, but i’m certain it won’t be a problem because motown has me on ignore, plus as we all know he is “done”. anyway he just neg repped a random post of mine from august 27th. i’m sorry but that’s goddamn funny. he comes in here talking crazy shit to me for no reason, he loses his mind when i literally just respond, and then he’s all, “IM THE ONLY ONE HERE TRYING TO KEEP THE PEACE HERE!!!”, meanwhile he’s finding random posts of mine from three months ago and negging them. sounds like having me on ignore ire is going swimmingly. 😂 also, just to make this post actually somewhat germane to the thread topic, i really believe that when this team is healthy that we are a legit S16/E8 team, and i don’t see RT being on the hot seat any time soon if we’re reaching that potential. i still want him to be a better regular season coach, but if he can assemble a roster and win in march then fuck it, i’ll gladly take it.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

The fact is the ship has sailed on making the switch to Arch. I do think Arch would’ve given us the best chance at winning if he had remained the starter from Georgia on. Half a season of reps would’ve been enough to get him ready for the playoff. I don’t think we would’ve seen worse outcomes to this point because let’s be honest, Georgia is the only good team we’ve faced and they pushed us around. But now, with two games left in the regular season? You have to roll with Quinn. Opportunity missed imo. But I am very afraid that he is going to piss down his leg against aggy. We might win bc of our defense but I’m not expecting much from the O. And I can’t see Quinn leading us to wins against anybody in the playoff outside of a byu or Boise state -

I think we all underestimate the running game and WR's we/Quinn had last year. Quinn is the same. IMO. Our D is so much better that we are in the same spot as last year. we go as far as the D takes us. barring stupid TO's and special teams disasters we can win it. -

This is the play I tried to describe about five pages back. WTF. Quinn goes down way way too fucking easily. Quinn absolutely needs to start running the ball to get his fucking footing back. He used to be pretty nimble on his feet. He needs to take off running on some QB options, dodge a few people and remember what it feels like to plant and change directions. He's lost right now because Sark has him tiptoeing around the fucking pocket. Fuck that! I guess Sark's as afraid of a Quinn injury as he is. We can tiptoe thru a couple of more wins, but when the going gets tough, it will be too late for Quinn to get his feet back. I guess at this point Quinn is a head case - but one with talent. He just plain forgot how to run with the football. Start the next game this way and I predict a complete turnaround. -

At this point this is the only thing he is really consistently elite at. He's not athletic and goes down too easy and his deep ball has always sucked. You can live with that if you have the short and mid range accuracy and consistently making the correct reads but we don't have the latter and he's playing way too hesitant.. I was hoping the injury was still nagging and Florida game was the start of Quinn playing confident again. But yesterday was frustrating. He didn't play shitty but he wasn't an asset. We should have been up 3 TD's in the first half and that game should have never been close. I like the idea above about just flat out calling a designed QB run early in games to get him to stop thinking and play football. But if we aren't moving the ball again against a good team that is actually scoring points (unlike Ark in first half yesterday) it's not going to shock me to see Sark pull a Saban in Bama's championship game when he benched Hurts for Tua. Manning may be more likely to throw a pick so I understand hesitancy to do that in a close game you feel like it still under control, but we're almost certainly going to have to play better offensively to win @ A&M. The stakes for that game are way too high to give Quinn an entire game to figure it out if we fall behind and he's part of the problem. -

9-1, and going absolutely nowhere is how I felt after watching Quinn’s latest showing against Arkansas for a lot of the reasons described in this thread that I don’t need to rehash. We may not like it, but the schedule HAS been very accommodating. We’re 10 games in and you can legitimately say Vanderbilt is our strongest win. Our (2) road games in The SEC: Vandy & Arkansas so The Horns haven’t really been tested like say a Georgia who whooped us in our own house playing a conference schedule that sent them to Tuscaloosa, Oxford, and home to Tennessee while besting Clemson non-con while our best non-con is a now clear .500 Michigan decimated by last season departures. I wrote in the game-thread that Sark is in a tough place because it should be clear now that Quinn caps where this team likely can go against playoff competition, but game 11 is mighty late to be making a change. Maybe he’s waiting for that adversity to make the change (ala 1st half v Georgia), perhaps in The A&M game or playoffs, the path his mentor, Saban, took w/ Hurts and Tua in the national title game, but I can’t imagine Sark looking at Quinn’s performances since his OU return getting the program where he wants to step it up to next -

I ain’t go even hold you who do you put Texas over if everyone has 2 losses?? Ole Miss - No Alabama - No UGA - No Tenn - No A&M - No more so cause this is who we lose to. One thing the top 4 teams have in common are good wins! Ole Miss has UGA, Bama has UGA, UGA has Texas and Tenn has Bama so they’ll get in off the strength cause they’ll be like who has Texas beaten?!? Then A&M would get in over us cause they’ll have beaten us. Now if A&M does make it to the CCG and lose now I think we can get in over them, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see them give the auto bid to another conference. Like I know we’re all Texas fans but unfortunately Vandy is our best win, maybe Floridas win will look better but they’ll rebuttal DJ didn’t play. We don’t do ourselves any favors by being so inconsistent as well as shitting the bed against Georgia. We just have to win. But we all know that -
I don't get the pleasure a fan like you gets out of a season. You're not alone in your attitude. I'm not scolding you for lack of school spirit; I'm just truly mystified about the difference in which we experience a season. I also don't want to go "a win is win. E'erbody be happy." I hated the shit fights with lousy teams we always ended up in with Strong and Herman. How many times can a 21-point lead turn into a white-knuckler? Fuck! We're 9-1 and ranked in the top five. It's a weird year in college football because the season is almost over and it's difficult to tell how good anybody really is. That includes us. I think it's a great thing for the first season with a 12 team playoff. I'm having fun. Maybe I'm a low-expectation motherfucker (thanks, Chris Rock). You seem like someone who could manage to be disappointed in a championship team that is less than perfect. Sounds miserable to me, but there's all sorts of things about the humans that are mysterious. Hook 'Em!

that's the point, Quinn is a normal qb average if you will. our qb play has been so bad that average qb play is defended to the end because we know what bad is. that's the crux of this thread. I actually think he's slightly above average and that's good enough to win with how good the players and team are around him. and he can always go on a heater even if not expected. -

yes we need to win out if everything stays chalk, also I just want to win out and win the SEC because we are Texas. However, It is November and it is college football season, there are going to be upsets and chaos over the next 3 weeks and I bet we would get in at 10-2. It is impossible to map out that chaos so it is easier to just not think about it. -
I think the only thing lacking is his long ball. That's important, but doesn't change how well he leads receivers and finds the right receiver. The drops killed some of our possessions. Count me among the happy for coming away with a win. I don't care about covering or any betting shit. I think Arkansas is the most fanatical effort we face all season when we play there. I say that fully aware of the OU game. I'm glad the game is back. I saw a lot of good Texas Arkansas games back with Akers and Holtz. The 1969 game is one of the first games I watched on TV and knew what was going on. The Aggies have been a joke most of my life. Anyways, feeling good about the win after the third quarter scare.

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0 (QBR 90.0 +10 for win) 2. Texas 20-10 vs. Arkansas Score = 72.0 (QBR 62.0 +10 for win) 3. We watch the Texas vs. Kentucky game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss. 4. We watch the Texas vs. Aggy game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss. 5. We watch the next Texas game of the season (Bowl game, SEC Championship, or First round playoff). Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss -30 if this is a bowl game +10 if it's the SEC championship. So Quinn is pacing MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY, with an average score of 86.0 so far. Not much you can do without three of your best players and especially on a tough back to back. Next to zero chance of winning that game before it even tipped. I didn’t watch any of last night but he actually seems to be finishing better overall. When he gets into the paint I’m legitimately thinking something good may actually happen vs oh shit here we go again. -
This game felt a lot like the Iowa State trip last year - a November road game against a conference opponent that wants nothing more than to punch us in the face and spoil our playoff run. For Iowa State, it’s the annoying “5 star culture”gimmicky slogan that they love to run in our faces. For Arky it’s just unreciprocated hatred. Neither team was anything special (4 losses going in), but had a knack for knocking off higher ranked teams. We showed up, defended their onslaught, and counter punched well enough to win by 10 points. Last year the defense gave up a lot of passing yard to Brecht. This year it was the offense that went absent for a while to let Arky back in. Either way, we ended both games by kneeling in their territory while up two scores. I’ll take it. As for Ewers, I don’t think he’ll ever become a viable deep ball threat. I just wish he could eliminate the self sacking and take the free yards when they’re available. That alone could boost the offense enough to be significantly more potent.

and we’ll all sleep well, clutching our “we beat 5-5 arkansas 20–10 in november” plaques when this season ends with a shit-ton of future nfl players and top tier coaches going home early because our third year starter wasn’t a threat to throw the ball more than 8 yards downfield and spent all game self-sacking because he’s scared to death to be touched. we’ve got a 5 star team full of 5 star coaches and players being held back by a 2 star QB who might be the worst player on the offense, and yet half of our fan base is mad at the other half for not being happy with an offense that looks like it’s being run a for an emergency third string freshman QB and not “the greatest QB prospect of all time.” you guys keep crowing about wholly unimpressive (more like depressing) wins vs vandy and arky, but something tells me your tune will change when we lose to an inferior team because our glaring weak link played the way he’s been playing all year only this time the opponent wasn’t some .500 scrub team. -
sounds like you are all over it but I'll chime in that I've been on an anti-inflammatory, low histamine diet and it's been a game changer for my weight, and blood work. mine was already pretty good but it just went next level. It's lean proteins (poultry, fish), most vegetables (green is good), and most fruits. whole grains are fine, eggs yes, try to avoid other dairy (some mild cheeses). I did add back plain yogurt (none of the fruit added yogurts). I also mixed up oat milk with 2% dairy milk to avoid daily intake of emulsifiers but I could easily leave milk out and drink less oat milk. I season with salt, pepper and olive oil. big things to avoid - added sugar, saturated fat from animal sources, and anything processed. I avoid almost all breads, pastas, rice, etc. though some in moderation is fine and I was using more heirloom pasta grains too. Rice was fine. The low histamine part makes it more restrictive and I've let that go a lot. so avacados, garlic, strawberries, some citrus is back. I avoid any and all higher calorie juices and opt for super low calorie lettuce type juices. other than that, sugar is all from fruit and then I'm avoiding oranges and citrus. so apples, pears, peaches, watermelon, berries of any type, pomegranate. Also seeds and nuts are great on this diet. I recall reading that under 20 grams of added sugar is the goal. I was down to under 5 grams added sugar per day and it was all in my muesli and spoonful of organic honey peanut butter as an indulgence. I also upped my supplement game - with less but more focusing on the basics and heart health. I find body health branded whole food supplements to be really great and easy to consume (tastes pretty good not like grass). I take coQ10, quercetin, curcumin, full spectrum hemp oil, b complex, c (multiple times a day), zinc, calcium and magnesium, and a few things for sleep. I've relaxed a little bit, but this diet helped me drop 30 pounds and realize that a decent American diet is still pretty trash. On this diet I didn't count calories, I ate when I was hungry and often ate a lot. But a plate of sweet potatoes, broccoli and a lean protein is high in volume and low in calories. the resistant carbs is big, root veggies are fantastic so is the chilled potato thing. weird but it seems to help. if you can get the undigested fiber to your large intestine then that's winning. The walk after eating is HUGE. avoiding alcohol is a big thing. sucks but I've not had a drink since july with very few exceptions. I've all but committed to never drinking alcoholic beer again. red wine and scotch will be the problem. anyway, it should have been hard but for some reason it really wasn't. maybe because I felt like my health depended upon it. and while my health is still a tad bit complicated I can say I feel healthier than I have since I was in my late teens. I'm 100% convinced added sugar and animal based saturated fats are the number 1 and number 2 enemies in our diet. we should have a longevity thread, I might start one.

Gentlemen, seriously, Quinn is who he is. Bearing a dead horse isn't going to make him into Joe Burrow. When he's not face planting from being chased by ghosts, he'll hit 5 yard out if the WR catches it. We should all be on the same page that he's gone next year, and we get a QB with literal suoer genetics. Can we make the NC game and win it? Sure. But it will have to be our defense who carries us. Unless Golden and Bond go superhuman and Jaydon Blue stops fumbling, we are who we are. It's clear there are more issues than just Quinn. We have no RB's that can pass block, by some miracle sometimes Blue can make a burst for a our 20 yards. Sark is intent on square peg round hole trying to run Wisner up the middle and it clearly isn't working. I have no idea why he wouldn't put in Gibson for that since that's what he does. Our WR's are fine. Quinn can hit them with a 5 yard out route, but anything outside of that and it's 50/50. The lack of balls to Wingo is also boggling. Sure he's dropped a few, but unless he's targeted more than twice a game we have idea whar he can be. I have no idea why Sark has abandoned the reverse with him since he gains about 30-40 yards with it. My guess is he and Quinn don't practice together (which is dumb af if true). So they have no chemistry. Wingo and Arch do, so I suspect Wingo will break out next season With all that said, let's just agree Quinn is average at best, and at worst he's Case Mccoy with a strong arm who is inconsistent and doesn't know how to read a defense use his arm talent. -
C'mon now, we knew them cousin-fuckers were no good from the get-go, no matter how hot their cousins are. Georgia is/was going to get the benefit of all doubts for starting #1 in the polls anyway win or lose. Stay focused and win the next 2 and it doesn't matter.

Lighten up. I've seen a lot of years where Texas had a championship caliber team yet didn't win one. It happens. If you're tempted to lose perspective and melt down, Just imagine Charlie Strong and his merry pack of hapless coordinators trying to figure out which end of a football is up while truly bad QB play cements another ignominious Texas defeat. Man, we didn't even know how to execute the coin toss back then. Beating Arkansas 20 to 10 to go 9-1 while probably headed to the playoff looks pretty damn sweet by comparison. -
We are going to have to win out no matter who won this game. A 2 loss Texas team is not making the playoffs
