  1. Let him go 5 to be eligible for the win. He will be available for a g7 for sure, and maybe a g6 if we need a lefty.
  2. It wouldn't surprise me to see Bama jump Texas as early as next week if we both look good this weekend. Not saying it's right, but the Bama/SEC bias is still real and and a win over LSU is going to be perceived as a lot better than a win against KSU.
  3. We didn’t get Louverture in the United States because in Haiti, there were about 10-1 enslaved people to the rest of the population, and the demographics of the United States and American South were quite different. The U.S. for sure deserved it, but it would have ended in a terrible bloodbath going the other way. (And of course Louvertute was not part of the massacres in Haiti, which happened after his death). There’s some lessons in there on the wisdom and morality of starting a war you can’t win against a force that you can’t defeat, which will almost assuredly hurt your own people worse than the enemy. Even if (unlike Hamas/Israel/Palestine in general), there’s no gray area about who is “right” and who is “wrong.”
  4. I did not watch, nor even follow the Rangers this year until going to some game in August (maybe?)… I think that it was a Sunday and I know that we won. I learned that the pitch clock had made the game watchable again. We also hit home runs. Other than Seager, I didn’t know one player on the Rangers, but I started paying attention to the standings. …and we started slumping to the point that it looked like we wouldn’t make the playoffs. Then Scherzer got hurt and we started winning again. He may have been our best pitcher, but he brought bad Mets ju-ju to Arlington. ”Bull Durham” taught the casuals that if you think that you are on a streak because of _________, then you are. Now his production in the postseason since turning 38 is plain as day. He didn’t give up a run in 3 innings last night, but that was due to luck and luck in the 2nd. One of my best friends since grade school, who named his boy after a Rangers Baseball Hall of Famer, and who has lived in DC for 2+ decades absolutely loves Scherzer because back when he was 35 he was nails for the Nationals. 🤷‍♂️ I will go on record to say that “I would LOVE for 35 year-old Scherzer to pitch for the Rangers in this World Series.” I just don’t want 39 year-old Scherzer to ever see the mound again this year.
  5. Klieman (pronounced KLY-men) has won five conference championships and three national championships in five seasons as the head coach at North Dakota State, and he currently has the Bison in the FCS Semifinals with a perfect 13-0 record prior to taking on South Dakota State in Fargo on Friday night. Klieman has done all this despite losing 23 seniors and welcoming seven new assistant coaches prior to his first season at NDSU in 2014. That season, the Bison went 15-1 and won the national championship before going 13-2 with another national championship in 2015, 12-2 with a semifinal appearance in 2014 and 14-1 with a third national title last season. “I’m very excited to have Chris Klieman lead our program,” Taylor said. “He is a perfect fit for us, both from a personal standpoint and as a head coach. He’s a tremendous teacher who I had the pleasure to hire at NDSU and watched him turn into a very successful coach. He will bring a ton of energy and excitement. His teams play extremely hard, disciplined football. He’s a winner. That’s all he does is win, and we’re excited to have Chris, Rhonda and the entire Klieman family join our K-State family. They will be a great fit not only for Kansas State Football and Kansas State Athletics, but also the entire community of Manhattan.” *********************************************************************************************************************** This guy can coach….like Snyder before him, he gets 110% out of his players and seems to always have a 5-yr senior at QB. We need to prepare like we did for Bama, play hard, make no mistakes, and have a vocal crowd. Sark and this team needs to be mean and nasty and focused.
  6. and yes, this was my ultimate point. this is something i was talking to my teenage sons about. palestinians are in an ultimate no win situation. they are expected to act perfectly while they endure and witness abuse after abuse around them. obviously, the answer isn't violence, but let's be real. if we don't feel comfortable with "apartheid" as a desciption, then we can compare it somewhat to jim crow america, i guess. black people could succeed if they played perfectly by the white man's rules. that's the situation palestinians are in. hamas is a terrorist organization, but put yourself in their shoes. there is actually no place else for a desperate palestinian to go. i dunno. when you treat people like animals, sometimes they fulfill your wishes and act like them.
  7. Lots of hand wringing after a win last night. Injuries suck but it is what it is. The reality is we are up 2-1 scoring a grand total of 10 fucking runs through 3 games. Everyone should be ecstatic about that. That is the kind of offensive slump that could easily have us down 3-0. We're now due to break out of it. Semien hasn't been Semien but his hit scoring the run and keeping that inning alive won us the game. And basically since the middle part of the ALCS, it seems like more often than not he's hitting the ball hard. He's not completely lost at the plate. He's going to snap out of it and have a 3-5 multi RBI game soon. Hopefully tonight. Even assuming Max and Adolis are out for the series (we'll hear more today I guess) we have enough dudes on this team to pick them up and win 2 more.
  8. I agree on those, except I think we could flip with WV/OU if we don't win our game. 11am is a more coveted timeslot and doesn't go up against Utah/UW and Ole Miss/Georgia or Tennessee/Mizzou. However, you are going up against Michigan/Penn State.
  9. Seems like a good deal for the 76ers, or at least the best they could do. Offloading an aging PJ Tucker who didn't really play in their first 3 games is a win for them. I don't know what is going on with that OKC pick, but getting any 1sts in return is a surprise. All 4 of the players Philly gets are expiring deals. James Harden trade details 76ers receive: Marcus Morris Nicolas Batum Robert Covington Kenyon Martin Jr. 2026 Clippers first-round pick via Thunder 2028 Clippers first-round pick (unprotected) One first-round pick swap Two future second-round picks Clippers receive: James Harden P.J. Tucker Filip Petrusev Thunder receive: Assets to be named later 76ers grade: B+ The Sixers were in a tough spot with Harden, whose market had almost completely dried up. There was little interest outside of the Clippers. While they didn't get the player who they were targeting in Terance Mann, this does help them moving forward. This is an addition-by-subtraction move for the Sixers first and foremost. They are no longer at risk of Harden posing a distraction, which he has done in the past when trade demands drag on. And Tyrese Maxey has exploded in Harden's absence, averaging 30.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists in the Sixers' first three games. Moving Harden allows Maxey to continue to flourish in his new role and the team can continue playing more quickly in a more egalitarian style under Nick Nurse. MORE: Week 1 overreactions: Denver's dominance, Tyrese Maxey's leap and more The Sixers are also getting some decent role players back who will help them this year and then go off their books to open up cap space down the line. Nicolas Batum, Marcus Morris and Robert Covington are all older players who can spread the floor with shooting and have veteran playoff experience. Covington may be the best of the three, and Morey seems to have an affinity for him — this is the third time that Morey has acquired Covington over the course of his 11-year career. KJ Martin is the most interesting of the players acquired by the Sixers. He'll be a restricted free agent next summer, and he showed some real promise while with the Rockets as an athletic wing with some two-way potential. He can fly in for some weakside blocks. Like his father Kenyon Martin, he's a great play finisher. And while he's not a great shooter, hitting 33.8 percent of his 3s for his career, he has shot a better percentage earlier in his career. This is a nice amount of draft capital, too. Given the age of their star players, those 2026 and 2028 Clippers picks have a chance to be very good down the line. For the same reason, that pick swap has real value as well. It's tough to see a top-30 player go out the door without receiving one back. But the assets that the team acquired, along with that draft capital and potential cap space next summer, allow them to make another move down the line. This seems more like a "to be continued" trade than anything else. Clippers grade: B Harden's fit on this team is going to be a little bit weird. It immediately raises the question of what will happen with Russell Westbrook, who took a huge pay cut to come back to the team and played well for them last season. Harden and Westbrook already have history playing together, so we know a little bit about what that might look like. Both Harden and Westbrook need the ball in their hands, and this takes away the nice fit that led to Westbrook's career resurrection after a disastrous stint with the Lakers. It might make sense to move him to the bench in order to let him continue to be the lead ball handler in those units. This could end up working nicely, though. Harden is still a fantastic passer — he led the league in assists last season. The Clippers were playing a rough style of basketball, depending far too heavily on isolations from Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. While both are extremely talented scorers, they were less than the sum of their parts. Harden has shown that he is willing to take a backseat to better players, as he did with Joel Embiid in Philadelphia. He can play the facilitator role for this team and get everyone the ball in their favorite spots. And he has better shooting around him than he did with the Sixers, which should make him an even more dangerous passer. P.J. Tucker should also help despite declining considerably over the years. His defense isn't what it once was, but he's still above average in that department. He's a good offensive rebounder and 3-point shooter, hitting 40.5 percent over the past two seasons. But he can be too reticent to let them fly, leading to teams not guarding him. This trade has a decent chance of blowing up in the Clippers' face given that a bunch of egos could end up fighting each other for shots. But this team wasn't going anywhere anyway. This gives them more championship equity than they had in the past. Thunder grade: Incomplete We don't know exactly how the Thunder have been roped into this trade yet. What we do know is that the Clippers' 2026 first-round pick, which the Thunder acquired as part of the Paul George trade in 2019, is now being routed to the Sixers. The cost for that pick is going to be high. The Thunder are getting something good back. We will have to wait and see what that is.
  10. What I'd like to see this week against KSU: - KSU gives up yardage to good backs. Horns need to run the ball 45 to 60 times this week, depending on the number of plays. Brooks needs his 20 to 25 carries. I hope we have a personnel wrinkle for this game. I'd love to see something like Red motioning from the slot to the backfield and vice versa in some 2 RB sets, maybe even some inside zone with a pitch option. Not necessarily Maalik running down the line but having the option to hand it off or pull it and pitch it to an outside back. Blue and Robinson would be good options on that pitch. Get the ball in Red's hands this week. Maalik, when he's focused, has a great ball fake and he needs to use it this week. Go back and look at Brooks's last touchdown against Houston. One of the reasons that play worked is because Brooks was almost through the hole before Maalik let him have it. - Johntay on the field a few more plays with Worthy, Mitchell, and Sanders. I realize this hurts our blocking on the outside, but a few more targets to open up the deep ball with more speed and athleticism on the field together. - Extra attention this week in practice on getting Worthy in position to make big plays in the return game. - Keep the passing game in check with RPO. Run it down their throats with options and make them pick their poison. Keep the passing game to 20 to 25 attempts, unless the RPO pass option is favorable. The objective should be to limit turnovers and negative plays and play defense. Don't allow KSU to exploit Maalik's lack of escapability or force him into mistakes. In other words, give KSU a piece of their own medicine. They want to control the game, limit turnovers, and wear you down. With Maalik, keep it simple. If Texas wins the turnover battle and rushes for 225 to 250 yards, even if it takes 50 or 60 carries, they probably win this game.
  11. Going to need our 5-9 hitters to do anything this series if we want to win a World Series. They are automatic outs the last two games.
  12. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38780889/steve-sarkisian-makes-texas-cfp-case-ahead-first-rankings Per Sark: #25 KSU shows the strength of Big 12, which may have been perceived to be weaker than it is while some other conferences may have been over-hyped Texas has the best win this year so far. Despite SEC's perseption as a super-strong league, we don't see a bunch of SEC teams go to Bama and win We just beat a 5-2 team 36-6 with our backup QB. Texas is a very versatile team Good to see some confidence from the coach after AP had Oregon jump us. KSU will be a quality win and will be a lot tougher than BYU. KSU destroyed TCU and Houston in their last 2 games. The defending Big 12 champs are always a tough match up for us, going back to the start of this conference. They're pretty good. We should still win may be not convincingly. I'll take the ugly conference W's any day. Hook'em
  13. That storm escalated quickly. Texas about to "host" WVU here in 30 minutes. We win, we play Wednesday at 4:30p at Myers. GO HORNS!
  14. few things IMHO: We get in over Bama all other things being equal. Road win at their place. We have a common opponent with Oregon in Texas Tech. Oregon struggled in Lubbock earlier this year so if we pound Tech then there's an argument in our favor should it come down to Oregon/Texas for a spot. Utah also had a close win on the road against Baylor so that's two Pac 12 teams struggling with Big 12 dregs on the road. Works against their argument as to the depth of the conference IMHO. Of course we have to win out for any of that to matter but that's how I see it. As for the undefeateds: Ohio St/Michigan will take care of itself obviously. Michigan has to play Penn State on the road this weekend so they could already have a loss before that game. Washington cannot lose a game due to their strength of schedule. They also play a very backloaded schedule with USC and Oregon State both on the road. They should beat USC as the rubbers have lost to every team with a pulse but that Oregon State game is going to be tough. There's also a likely rematch with Oregon. See also Georgia for a backloaded schedule. They've beaten nobody and are trading on past successes. They're still good so winning out is likely even if they play Alabama. Florida St has the best chance to win out on paper but they have two big rivalry games left - Miami and Florida. Both are coached by idiots but at least Miami has the players. So we may have an undefeated Georgia with a bunch of 1 loss teams arguing over three spots.
  15. Matt Barrie said on video Gordon for Heisman Oklahoma State rides surging RB Ollie Gordon into Bedlam Chris Low, ESPN Oct 29, 2023 STILLWATER, Okla. -- The final Bedlam for the foreseeable future looks markedly different for Oklahoma State than it did a month ago. The Cowboys, who raced past Cincinnati 45-13 on Saturday thanks to a 35-point second half, have won four straight games, sit in a five-way tie atop the Big 12 standings and have a running back putting up Barry Sanders-like numbers. "It's great. The team chemistry, the team bonding ... everything's getting better, and as we grow closer to each other, nobody can stop us," said Ollie Gordon II, who rushed for 271 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns. The Cowboys (6-2, 4-1 Big 12) look nothing like they did to close out September, when they lost back-to-back games to South Alabama and Iowa State. A bye week ensued, and the biggest difference once the calendar flipped to October was that Gordon became the Cowboys' go-to running back. And he took off. "We saw a glimpse when we played West Virginia last November," Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn said about Gordon's potential. "I kind of joke, but it's like trying to tackle a giraffe. The guy is so long. He's got limbs everywhere, and he's still really powerful. If you stand behind him and practice, there's freaking muscles everywhere. I hate saying awkward, but he's got this awkwardness that it's hard to tackle and then he's got enough speed to put it in the end zone like we saw tonight. So right now, he's playing with a lot of confidence, and the offensive line's blocking with a lot of confidence." Gordon, a 6-foot-1, 211-pound sophomore, was coming off a 282-yard performance in the win over West Virginia a week ago. He and Sanders (1988) are the only two players in program history with back-to-back games of 250-plus rushing yards. Sanders' 1988 season is widely regarded as the best individual season in college football history when he rushed for 2,850 yards, scored 44 touchdowns and broke 34 records. Gordon, who carried the ball just 19 times in the first three games this season, is one of only two FBS players over the past 20 seasons with 250 scrimmage yards in three straight games. Boston College's Andre Williams also did it in 2013. Two weeks ago in a 39-32 win over Kansas, Gordon had 168 rushing yards and 116 receiving yards. He has had five straight 100-yard rushing performances, piling up 978 yards in those five games while averaging 8.01 yards per carry during that stretch. Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy played with Sanders and Thurman Thomas in college and delivered a stern message to Gordon in the first half after he lost a fumble and showed his frustration and emotion on the sideline. "There's a lot of pressure involved, and he's a very prideful young man, and that's good," Gundy said. "But what I shared with him is that I've been around the greatest running backs to ever play this game. None of them did that. They all learn to keep their composure." That's exactly what Gordon did in rushing for more than 200 yards in the second half for the second straight week. "He's still young and he's got a long ways to go in his career, but he has changed considerably over the last five weeks with us condensing our running game," Gundy said. "He's not arrived, but we have to give him credit for what he's done. It's not like it's the first game he's done this, but I've told him and I'll tell him again when I see him tomorrow or Monday. He has to stay hungry, and he has to stay humble -- period -- or he'll get his block knocked off." After the game, Gordon was holding a large bouquet of roses given to him by his mother and aunt. Chants of "Ollie, Ollie" filled a rainy Boone Pickens Stadium when he left the field. Gordon said hearing his name mentioned in the same sentence with Sanders is surreal, but he is not about to get ahead of himself. As much as anything, he wanted to talk about his offensive line late Saturday night. "It's great to be talked about with greats like Barry Sanders. I mean, he won a Heisman Trophy and is one of the best to ever do it," Gordon said. "It's a special feeling, but I couldn't do any of it without the guys in front of me. They're the ones who deserve all the praise." Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman said watching the entire running game click the way it has for the past month has been amazing. "I've got the best seat in the house to watch it, and it's been pretty cool," Bowman said. Nobody needs to tell Gordon or any of the Oklahoma State players that next Saturday's game with Oklahoma will be the last chance they get at the Sooners, at least in the regular season. With Oklahoma, which has won 17 of the past 20 meetings in the series, moving to the SEC in 2024, the two rivals aren't expected to meet again anytime soon. Gordon, asked what he expected from the last Bedlam in a while, said simply, "I expect the Pokes to come out on top."
  16. Absolutely, but that's why I said he needs to make us a consistent contender (and there is still a long way to go this year). Even TCU can stumble into a great season when the stars align, we need a sustainable program that wins 10+ every year. If Sark can get us to that point, we're in the playoffs most years and you get your shots at championships. While I'm not yet convinced Sark is the guy, I like that he seems very focused on long term foundational stuff and I think he's pushing a style of football that lends itself to consistent long term success. This isn't Herman using a QB as a battering ram to win games. While I don't agree with some of the in game decisions, those are mainly noise in the big picture. I'm trying to judge the guy at the game or even season level, which is ultimately what I care about. And I personally think they are playing a style of football that's really entertaining to watch. For all the folks saying that we're winning ugly, I really wonder if they watch college football.
  17. They definitely aren’t. They are a pretty good team who seems to have gotten things right and look more like what was expected of them preseason after changing up the QB dynamic. I don’t think their defense is anything to write home about but their offense will present a lot of problems for Texas with the QB run game. I’d feel better if Ewers were healthy but alas, here we are. It wouldn’t surprise me if Texas win but they are going to have to play and call a cleaner game than they have since Alabama. Good thing Texas isn’t starting an extremely inexperienced backup who put the ball in danger several times in his first start, right? I don’t know if they do that in the same way Tech or Houston or whoever does, but look at their schedule. Going back to the preseason the expectation is that this would be a very important game for determining how the top of the conference standings shake out. I’m sure their staff has had it circled. It also stood out for the Texas side but I don’t know that there is a lot left to roll out in terms of new wrinkles between having already played Alabama and OU and losing Ewers.
  18. I’m all for OU losing every game but their loss is going to make the race for best one loss team - if we can hang on and win out - a tough one. Oregon is already likely ahead of us now. but the reason to want OU to lose every time is because there are no guarantees Texas wins. You gotta want them out every time.
  19. If you don't want to debate something don't fucking respond and open the damn debate. I'm old enough to have a kid that is a Jr at Texas and sure as shit didn't want OU representing the South in 2008. I realized once we lost to Tech the easiest non BCS fuckery path to that was both of them taking a loss, us being the South representative and winning the Big 12. We would have been 2 in the end in AP and Harris. Bama/Florida were going to give one or the other a fatal last week of the season SEC Champ game loss. USC was hanging around in what was an average Pac at the time and were never much of a true threat. Yea there would have been probably been some BCS computer hit based on SOS, but wasn't overcoming a 2 ranking in the other components. As to rooting for them, I don't think prefacing it with "hold our nose" means you put on crimson and cream and play Boomer Sooner. It just means on paper if that is what happens and we do beat them it's probably the easiest way to flank all the other teeth gnashing everybody is doing around all the other beauty contest scenarios. Besides until they lost unexpectedly to Kansas that is what this entire board was looking to do....face an undefeated OU again and get revenge, so not like I am saying anything this board hasn't been on about since around 2:45pm on October 7th. But yes thank you for confirming that OU sucks, we hate OU blah blah blah. Fuck em, let em win and then let's crush their souls.
  20. Styles make fights, and we have matched up well with Kansas State’s style of play the last 6 years. They want to win in the trenches and we match up well there. They are also undersized on the DL which is why we have run it down their throat the last two years. Their best LB is out for the season and they haven’t played an offense that can test them on that since he went down. Howard or Johnson don’t scare you throwing the ball and none of their skill guys are going to get behind the defense consistently. It’s all about containing the running game and having an answer for the 3-3-5.
  21. The next couple weeks won't be easy without Quinn. Would've been nice to have beaten OU and have a mulligan. If we do make it through, the best thing that could happen would be Bama winning the SEC. That would guarantee us a spot. We would get in over a 1 loss ACC champ. A 1 loss P12 champ could go either way. It would probably come down to how Bama finishes. They beat LSU, we probably get in.
  22. Yep, there is no way Oregon jumps us today if OU wins against Kansas yesterday. And it's also a timing thing. Memories are short, recent games get much more credit than early season games. Our best win of the year (unless we make the playoffs) will be a week 2 win. Our best possible win going forward happens next week against a team barely in the top 25. Would have been nice to knock off OU in CCG when they were sitting in the top 5 (or whatever). At that point, you'd have 2 top 5 wins and no debate against other 1 loss champs. I'm not as convinced as others that a 12-1 Texas gets in over a 1 loss Oregon or Washington. Media has been propping PAC up all year and beating on Big12 (somewhat fairly). Everyone will forget how bad SEC was OOC by the time decisions are made.
  23. Worthy dropped at least 3 balls that I can remember. I am all for giving Cook some of his reps. I know a lot of people here think you can't take him off the field but Cook is pretty explosive, and getting him some touches might be just as good. As far as Murph goes he was fine. We didn't help him with the pass blocking. A lot of times the IOL was in his lap. You want him to step into throws? Clean up his pocket. The thing with Murph right now is he is just throwing the ball and believing his guy is going to win. That is going to cost you here and there, I expect that kind of stuff from a young guy. He will get better with time. He has the tools though.
  24. I'm a Sark fan, but passing up a FG there (twice) was just monumentally stupid. Objective number one: Win. The. Game. The math says those three points are very meaningful. If a FG takes you from an 11-point lead to an 14-point lead, then it's still a 2-score game, and I suppose you can argue going for the TD. But the lead was 15 points, and tacking on a FG is *HUGE* right there. It makes it a 3-score game with less than a quarter to play. Failing to punch it in (shocker) also totally energized the BYU sidelines and their fans. If BYU had gotten lucky on those possessions and hit a deep jump ball, or if our DB fell down - or whatever - then they would have been kicking off in a 1-score game with ALL the pressure on our offense. Yes, we were the better team, and we got a couple of late scores and pulled away at the end of the game. That doesn't make those decisions less stupid. There's a time to let your nuts hang. There's also a time to take the FG and kickoff with a 3-score lead.
  25. You're right, us talking about fun "what if we win?" hypotheticals on surly is going to cause the team to lose. Clear cause and effect.
