Am I in the minority when I say that I struggle with purposely creating fake memories when it comes to aging an instrument?

I, like everyone of you. Love the way old guitars look and handle. I have opened more than my share of old guitar cases. And I wish I had more of them. But to imitate such history seems..idk.bourgeois?

I don't think you are in the minority, and I think you are exactly right about the type of buyer being targeted.  To each their own, I guess. If someone wants to pay extra for the manufacturer to make a new guitar look like its been train-hopping with a hobo the past 50 years, its their money.  To me, its fake, unearned and gauche, so don't expect props.

My hands do look like that. Unfortunately they don’t play like Beck.

About 5-6 years ago I ran across a used LP Standard, IIRC, at GC Carrollton. The back of the neck’s finish was completely worn away to the point you’d swear it had a perceptible inward bow. Smelled like tobacco and every part that could be tobacco smoke stained was. Thru a Marshall stack that thing sounded great and it played like butta. Asking was around 1700 bucks. I dont remember it’s made date but regret not buying that journeyman’s tool.

I have a 1990 Telecaster with a distinct stale pipe tobacco smell in the guitar and inside the case.  I believe if it ever loses that aroma, I'd have to sell it.  22 years though, and it's still going strong.

Not sure if this video was posted on either the pedal thread or the amp thread, but I think it's interesting.  I really wish I had better advice when I was making a lot of my early pedal and amp purchases, because I didn't have any understanding of gain staging, compression, etc.

In fact, of the first three guitars I bought as a teenager with my yard-mowing money, I still own all three, and they're still great guitars.

The first three amps?  Crap, meh, and meh.  A Yamaha 2x12 amp... blah.  A "Legend" 1x12 combo that is a Mesa Boogie clone (meh), and a late 80's Princeton chorus that took a dump within a few years of getting it home.  Of the three, I still have only the Legend, and that's purely a sentimental choice, since it was my amp during my garage-band rocker years.

First three pedals?  I think one was a Boss chorus (1980's, Holla!).  That one just gave up the ghost in the past few years.  Otherwise, my early pedal purchases were mostly shit.

Pretty sure wife rules are in effect for guitars mentioned in the guitar pron thread.

Nah, its not.  2018 Memphis ES-330.  Here's the original Gibson page w/all specs.

http://legacy.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2018/Memphis/ES-330-2018.aspx

Edit:  I *think* its the same guitar as in those vids, but that the vids mistakingly call it a custom shop guitar.  I could be wrong.

Full hollow with those P-90's. Time to learn the art of controlling feedback when cranked. Actually a pretty fun thing.

Yeah, have played my brother's ES-330 with P90s a lot.  I'm not too worried about the feed back at this point.  I wouldn't buy a full-hollow with humbuckers, though.
