So I understand the consensus on Joe Bonomasa and never really have liked his style of playing.  The collecting never has bothered me because glass houses (at a lower level).  But the Rick Beato interview with him from yesterday goes a long way in humanizing the guy.  I'm about half way through it after trying to talk my way out of it, and it's worth the watch, if only for the opportunity to stare at the 1958 LP he's fiddling around on.

Who seems like less of a douche from Beato’s interviews:

1) Dominic Miller

2) Joe Bonamassa

I saw about this interview on my own feed and I'm as interested in spending the time listening to this as I am in listening to his actual music. I'm sure it's fine. Im sure he's fine. The guy just doesn't interest me. I'm glad for those who are interested and enjoy his stuff. The world needs more of it.

I get it and I was prepared to lose interest after a few minutes too. But here we are. Up is down. Day is night. Nothing makes sense.

/edit.  Just finished.  Glad I did.  He spends a lot of time talking about other musicians, influences, etc.  His music may not be for me, but the dude can play.

He would fit right in on this thread of nerding out on guitar stuff.

He just has the money to get all the things I only post pics of.

Joe B AND Beato in the same video is nightmare fuel

Mine probably is having to listen to Rush.  Different strokes.

I assume he posts here.  Like I said before, I'm not bothered and am mildly interested in seeing/hearing about his collection.  Glass houses, albeit smaller glass houses in my case.

In all seriousness I am pretty ambivalent on Joe B. His collecting irks me more than anything else really, but I think he is an OK dude.

Beato though

Whatever about JoeB as a musician or songwriter, it’s very fucking cool what he did to help Eric Gales resurrect his career after addiction.  Joe Trumpeted him as the best blues-rock player alive today, produced his last album for a cost of two cans of Diet Coke, and has pretty selflessly helped Gales get back on track musically.

KELLY: That's the Joe B. in the song.

GALES: That's the Joe B. That's the Joe B. in the song. Joe's career went one way, and my career went down a dark path. Me and Joe had a conversation when this record was coming up. And he said, Eric, you have no idea how long I've been watching and waiting for you. It's time for you to get your crown. It's him that said that to me.

GALES: We knew that the world was going to take it and run with it as a preconceived notion that it's a competition. It's never a competition between me and my best friend. It's a conversation that we were having in that boxing ring. It just so happened to been in a boxing ring, so people will perceive that as a competition. And Joe said, what the hell? Let's run with it.

I don't get the hate for Beato. I find some of his interviews really insightful and interesting, while others are clearly clickbait.  Plus I really dig that blue LP Jr. he put out with Gibson.

That guy damn near is the most mid out of touch white motherfucker in history.

I've watched a couple of his videos, but don't really follow him.  I didn't even realize that he was a contentious subject to be honest.  I'm really into the tweed amps.  So Joe B.'s similar obsession isn't bothersome to me.  If I had his success and a 35 year and counting career in music, I'd buy a bunch of cool amps and guitars too.  I mean, yeah, it's a lot.  But I'd probably trade it all for a little more.

In that interview, he said if he had to have just one guitar and amp, it'd be the 1951 Nocaster (which came with a PAF in the neck position) and a reissue HP Tweed Twin with a green stompbox in between.

how do you define low/mid/high out of touch?

Sincerely,

This white motherfucker.

I would be charitable by saying that Beatos frame of reference made it to 1987.

I'm traveling at the moment but I will give you a more expansive reply when I am able.

In the meantime, if he was a restaurant, he would be a Ruby Tuesday's.

People don't like Joe because of his stage presence, his self-promotion in marketing, and his boring style of recycled blues. I'm not keen on it myself.

But I have always been pleasantly surprised to find him seeming like a pretty decent, grateful and generous guy in interviews. People that don't like him for other reasons just don't watch his interviews.

Speaking of annoying feeds, this guy has been flooding my Instagram for the last month or so. He'll have interesting enough topics, but I'd rather have my teeth pulled out than listen to him.Screenshot_20231130_073531_Instagram.jpgScreenshot_20231130_073637_Instagram.jpg

Pretty much any type of video feed presented in a vertical format should be banned anyway.

I have nothing against Joe B as a person. He seems like a good dude. It’s just that I’ve never heard a single phrase of his music that’s resonated 1 iota with me. It’s weird. And I’ve tried. So be it I guess.

Me either, except for his playing with Glenn Hughes in Black Country Communion.

Because he’s actually made awesome music with it?

And because he's cool and has a variety of weird, cool stuff.  But if you watch that interview, it is readily apparent that Joe B. can play the shit out of the guitar.  There's even a point where he says that he has apologized to Eric Johnson for basically doing a poor imitation of some of his bits.  But then they're talking about SRV in the interview, and he, just turns up the volume and rips the lead-in to Scuttle Buttin' flawlessly.  I don't know.  Maybe everyone here can play like that, but I sure as hell can't.

https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/sweetwater-giveaway-neural-dsp-quad-cortex-quad-core-digital-effects-modeler-profiling-floorboard.2516703/

Gear page is having a giveaway for a Neural DSP Quad Cortex amp modeler/profiler unit.  Even if you don't like the digital shit, they are selling for quite a bit on reverb and you could parlay that into something nice you do like.  You have to watch some 30 minute Sweetwater video and then post what excites you about the quad cortex.  Just play that shit on mute then post "The various IO options and quality of profiled/captured amps" or some other BS.

Estimated Price Range
Based on 892 orders for Quad Cortex 2021 Gray in Good to Mint condition
$1,213 - $1,480

Talking about sticking p90s in a 335 like you mufuckers have never heard of a casino

Or an ES330.

Honestly, the Casino is the first guitar I've had in decades that I couldn't bond with and sold.  It was such a cool guitar - Goldtop.  But even after a setup, I felt like it played like a cigar box.  The only time I got it to sound good was playing it through a cranked tweed Bassman.  But, then, I thought to myself, everything sounds good through a cranked tweed Bassman.

Yeah, never touched one, but I always heard Casinos were hard AF to play.

That was my experience.  It looked like it would be fun to play acoustically, but both my strat and sg were way more acoustically vocal.

My 1970 ES335 is the most even guitar I've ever played.  The strat took more getting used to after years of playing a tele.  It's a partscaster with a wonderful neck, good electronics, and a cheap body.  So I wonder if there's more if I should leave well enough alone. The tele wants you to fail, but rewards those lucid intervals of awesome.  The Les Paul wants you to be super comfortable playing it until it compresses your spine.  The SG wishes you were a viking who could use it as the rock weapon it is.

Well now I’m curious - let’s assume we’re talking about a higher end epi casino, why would it be any more difficult to play than a …. es-330 or 335 even?

Mine was 100% a Chinese shit box.  And it wasn't good (not that I have a similar frame of reference).  335s are a completely different, more tamable animal.

I had an Epi Casino that I could never get along with. I have an Epi Sorento I will never part with. Similar bodies, but the Sorento was such a better guitar and has Gibson mini-buckers that sound great.
