I didnt have a complaint with the N3's in my American Deluxe Tele until I put a pair of Pure Vintage 64's in it. Wow, what an upgrade! That guitar sounds how a Teles supposed to now. Huge upgrade in tone.

Those 64 pickups are nice and bright/twangy and are completely different than the Nocaster '51 pickups I put in my 52 reissue.  Sometimes, you want a bright/twangy tele, and sometimes, you want something a bit more mid-focused/gnarly.

It must be Telecaster season, I picked up my '88 Tele unprovoked for the first time in like a year last week

Definitely among of the best periods for Fender guitars.

I have those Nocaster '51 pickups I'm my other Telecaster and they are also fantastic. I have a friend looking to upgrade pickups in his Tele and he's taken both of mine home to spend time with. I think he's leaning toward the Nocaster's.

I put a set of 64's in one of my Teles. They are bright and twangy, but that's not a bad thing. Combined with this pedal, it's gets me that nice 50s sound.

tbone_, any idea what year that EVH photo was taken?

Zero clue. Just showed up on my Facebook feed.

But if I had to guess, the nerd in me would guess 77. Looks like all the stuff matches what I’ve read about the recording of the 1st album.

But for a serious Fender collection, you want at least a Strat and a Tele.  Then Precision, Jazzmaster, Jazz.  Heck you already have a Strat and Jaguar.  Why not round out the classic line up?

I tend to have less interest in the classics compared to most on this forum, so I expect not a lot of kind reactions. However, this intrigues me. If they made it in Pelham Blue, Inverness Green or even Metallic Red, I would be very tempted.

to me this needs to either be a mosrite or a charvel. it's not not cool, but without even looking at the price tag I know that it's going to be too much money for something that is neither going to be a classic Gibson or a high performance shredder, or a funky 70s off brand thing.
