Ooh, I want that LP Jr double cut.

i've always kinda wanted one of those in tv yellow, but cherry red is also nice and.... actually now I'm more curious about that if the thing is made out of walnut rather than mahogany. cherry red adjacent but i'm also just now comprehending that this is a whole dark walnut series. anyways, the only double cut juniors with gibson on the headstock that they seemed to have were super expensive reissue or the rick beato signature. The price point on this one certainly carries the Gibson premium but it's not completely insane.

But also from that series.......

Ever since I’ve played my buddies walnut 345, and discovered it’s what Mick Taylor used on “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” all the walnut ES-3xx series are in my watch list. One day I’ll find one at a good rate and snatch it.

Same with the double cut LP juniors. I keep looking at them, but then I tell myself I already have 2 LPs with P-90s so there are some other gaps I need in my collection until I get to one. But I really really like the Beato version in Pelham Blue.

jack white. this is the guitar equivalent of star trek tos era clint howard

I did not know that there is a jmascis tele - I bet this is cool

obviously poly finish, but a road worn nitro neck and some "j mascis 58" tele pups. I saw an interview where he talked about how he mostly recorded with a tele on the dino jr stuff, which is interesting because I certainly associate him with a jazzmaster. Relatedly, I did pick up one of the Squier Mascis JMs at a guitar center and was a bit let down that it did just feel kinda like a Squier. It may not have been helped by being a ground level guitar at a lower tier Guitar Center but still - I put it back up quickly.

I"m sure that Jack White Tele is super versatile, but man, it's giving me these vibes as a mash up:

That Mascis tele, however, is pretty slick.  With a little binding, that'd be a straight Buck Owens monster.

Did you know that Tom Herman is no longer the football coach at UT?

🤘

That Fender YouTube review was posted before Steve Sarkisian coached his first game for the Longhorns,

PS- Former Washington & USCw head coach, Steve Sarkisian, is the Texas Longhorn head football 🏈 coach.

PPS- The women’s volleyball team is a national power and those ladies are the two-time defending national champions.

PPPS- Shaka Smart is no longer the men’s head basketball coach at UT.

Does the Jack White Tele come with a pic of Meg's tits? Asking for a friend..

I have told the story before, but two friends went to see The White Stripes in LA in the early 2000s.

Smaller venue and they were standing near the front on the stage to see Jack rip it up on stage.

Show started and they immediately were transfixed on watching Meg White’s tits slosh around behind her drum kit for the next 90+ minutes.

I am always amazed at the tuning stability on my Martin. It is rock solid. I have a Breedlove at home, which is a nice guitar, but man pulling it out after awhile it will be way off. The Martin can sit for months and I maybe need to give the G a quarter turn.

Related, I really need a 00 for recording. I love dreadnoughts but they are just so boomy.

I have unabashedly become obsessed with Chris Stapleton's sound on White Horse with those Supertron pickups. I have never really been remotely interested in Gretsch guitars outside in high school where I really wanted a Jet to be like Malcolm Young, but that is an amazing sound.

That's a good'un.  My Stapleton tone obsession remains his SNL take on "Midnight Train to Memphis".  Plus, Sturgill.  Something I just noticed:  is the drummer doing 4 on the floor with his kick or his he playing his hi hat with his right foot?

He’s kinda doing 4 on the floor through the first chorus, but it’s also deceptive because he’s got long ass legs and is sitting way low… and so he’s tapping his knee evenly in place even though his foot isn’t playing the pedal. Often in live settings a drummer will actually ghost 4/4 quarter notes anyway even if the accent/beats are in other places.

You also just happen to see his knee more because he doesn’t have a second rack tom and his bass drum isn’t huge. You see lots of players do that on their hi hat foot…. Bounce their knee/heel in time but they aren’t actually lifting the pedal.

As for his hi hat with right foot I don’t know or see that happening. When I play with a big setup and have a second hat pedal to my right it’s usually just to drop it down or up. He’s definitely not doing that kind of thing.

Also, aside, I do love a Ludwig sparkle kit. Fits the vibe here perfectly.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Gentleman, me thinks we’ve reached peak pedal. This is too cute by half, would never work in an actual band environment- practice let alone stage - and I want it.

Just make sure to put a couple extra candles in your gig bag and you are good to go.

I don’t know if I just got better at switching scale lengths or I had a string of bad Les Paul interactions, but uhhh I fink I’m starting to like the Les Pauls now

Obviously I’m joking at Bonnamasa a bit but that’s a slick finish and a cool guitar. If I was a touring guitarist who primarily played my goldtop I’d be tempted at that for a backup. Would have to cover the case in stickers or stencils or something though. They should bring that finish back for Gibsons.

Man, of “guitars that got away” or even more broadly “things I didn’t buy that I wish I had bought”, I present the Hello Kitty Stratocaster.

I don’t remember what they were listed for but I don’t think it was more than $200. I remember seeing one in a guitar center and thinking I should buy it and stash it under a bed because it’ll become collectible or I’ll have a daughter. These are about $700 on reverb now, I still may get one….

I saw a dude playing one of these onstage before a Rangers game last summer.  He was a pretty gnarly looking dude wearing overall shorts and a train engineer hat.  He was also sporting a belly button lengthy salt and pepper beard.  It was quite the juxtaposition.

Maybe he's just trying to attract some very young ladies?

I kinda feel the same about my GT Epiphone Collegiate Les Paul (see avatar). They were $99 new and now I see them on Reverb for 3-400. I think most people bought them as decorations but I put an EMG in the single pickup spot and it actually plays pretty well.

I got that Epiphone 1962 Sorrento Reissue for $600. They are being listed for about $1200 on Reverb, now. Saw them as high as $1800 during the pandemic price spike.

It's a nice guitar. I've mentioned before that Mark Erlewine looked it over for me and said he was shocked at how close it was to the originals. Gibson mini-buckers and Gibson wiring. I wouldn't have bought it at 1200, but I did at 600. Came with a hardshell case and they only made 1962 of them. I won't complain if the price goes up.
