Where you been for the last 40 years?

Had a friend since kindergarten or so who didn’t play guitars, but did drink Grolsch in Switzerland (either his final boarding school or his only attempt at college.)

He didn’t play guitar, but he did like drugs.

When he wasn’t ordering coke to be delivered and be paid for with his credit card, he was smoking a lot of weed & hash.

He did drink Grolsch, but had no use for the rubber rings, rather he would pry out the ceramic cork/topper and use that as a roach clip when he was getting down to the end of his joint.

Stick the J in one side and suck air out the other. No burned fingers.

Grolsch must have been popular with musicians for multiple reasons over the year. The bear of choice for tour launch parties.

OK, but that's not what GE Smith is playing in that photo.  I'm not familiar with that body shape.  It's like a Tele with an SG upper horn.

to me that looks like a telecaster that a certain member of the paul butterfield blues band took a dremel to

^100%.

I've scene various Tele's that people have tried to make into "double cutaways" not realizing that the Tele is not an entirely symmetric body.  Fender actually got in on the game for a couple models:

I can't say that I dig it.

I actually like that, a lot.  I remember when it was (re?) released maybe 8-10 years ago and thought it was perfect for me.

Then I remembered I could build my own Frankenstein guitar for less that would be far better, so I stopped thinking about it.

They aren't terribly expensive.  And Warmoth doesn't do a double cut Tele.

https://triblive.com/news/world/u-s-customs-officers-seize-3000-counterfeit-gibson-guitars/

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Saturday announced the largest seizure ever of counterfeit Gibson electric guitars.

Working with U.S. Homeland Security and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, agents recently seized more than 3,000 counterfeit guitars at the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s largest seaport complex.

The guitars would be worth more than $18 million if they were genuine, customs officials said.

All three agencies will be on hand with Gibson officials Tuesday morning in Carson, just a few miles north of the Port of Los Angeles, to detail the seizure and — in advance of the holiday shopping season — to caution consumers about fraudulence products sold on e-commerce platforms and other sources.

I believe Bloomfield modified that Tele into a double cut himself.

He also just left '59 burst in a club in Canada, the same one he'd carry to gigs the bus without a case.

Pretty sure Mike was somewhere on the spectrum. Incredible musician though.

Alright, so I have to say - the hello kitty strat, it's a lot of fun and I'm really impressed with it as a Squier. I think it is supposed to be a "classic vibes" level Squier per what I've read on the internet - it is well intonated, it's really stable, the tuners are pretty nice, it has nice action, the finish is great. I'm impressed. It has a glossy neck which is not the choice I'd make generally but it's not difficult to move around on. My daughter typically stays out of my office, i need to put it away because she is not big enough for it yet but it'll be game over if she sees it - it should go hide in the closet for a few years. But, also - i think I kinda like having a stripped down strat like this. Maybe I should get a charvel or something if she does end up taking the kitty strat. Also though, she is definitely a lefty (like me) but I'm afraid she may be a full on guitar lefty (unlike me). Which will make sharing guitars harder.

Also, one of the other guitars I got back from the luthier was my old dirnt p bass that i played forever and toured with. I'm trying to get my chops back up.

I'm really bummed that the one guitar I've actually abused enough to have self-relic'd just had a shitty poly finish. I had considered replacing the body. Just cause it would be kinda fun to do, it would be like a new bass, maybe there's some metaphorical stuff going on there, and also I could keep the things I liked about that bass (neck, pickup, maybe the bridge) and upgrade the other stuff. Curious on thoughts, if this is cool like it is, or... I had played with the idea of getting a standard p bass body in nitro tahitian coral, something like this -

maybe a little bit of relicing on it and no covers. although it would be the weird thing of the standard p body with the tele p neck, like this -

I was trying to find a picture of Rich Brotherton's strat that he broke and cut the top of it off.

Today's dream guitar ponder.  Just in case any of you all were feeling extra generous this year:

Nevermind that I can get about 90% to nailing prime Chuck Berry tone with my Es-175 though a dialed up Princeton for about 20% of the price of this.  It's that extra 10% that I really want...

I’ve never understood the love for that style. It looks hard to play.

It’s a thin guitar. Plays like any other.

But it is the sound of rock n roll.

I love the pre war, art deco design style too. Yes, yes I know it’s a post war guitar but the design harkens back to the pre war L-5 and Super 400.
