The Guitar Pron Thread

My Breedlove has bone pins. Everything else has plastic. Not sure I could tell the difference in sound.

I don't know how anyone would be so anal retentive to test it (other than Eric Johnson), but other than swapping pins out the differences between guitars would surely swamp the difference between pin material.

NOT acoustic bridge pin related, but...

I decided to buy a Fender Mustang Micro Plus (list $129.99), because they have a bundle on the Fender website that includes the little case for $2 more (usually a $24.99 value).

So when I went to checkout, I was offered these shipping options:

That "2 Day" option was tempting, but I went ahead and chose the "Next Day".

Did I make the right choice?

. . .

If my bank account survives Christmas I’m thinking about selling some of my cheap guitars they I never play (G&L Tele, P90 Firefly, Les Paul Special, etc) and putting the proceeds towards a decent SSS Strat. Lately I’m feeling more like having fewer, better guitars than a bunch of crap.

I think if pared down to the HH Strat, PRS, a SSS Strat, and my Breedlove and Taylor that would be a nice little stable. I’d keep the cheapo bass and drum rigs for the once every five years that people want to jam in the basement.

Yeah, I've been developing a pile of gear I need to recycle into better/different gear.  I just can't seem to get motivated to get rid of though.  Maybe a new years resolution to thin/change the heard.  I have developed my collection wish list.  That has at least focused my wild-eyed "all of 'em!!!" approach to curating my collection.

I have a batch of guitars I've been needing to get rid of to reduce the my clutter of guitars that I really don't play anyway.  I haven't even been playing at all for a good while, yet I still look at guitar sales. I have been determined to not buy any more guitars until I get rid of some, which is also frustrating.

We need to have our own guitar store and move some stuff, or at least trade some stuff.

We need a "trivial music thoughts that don't warrant a whole thread" topic.

I was thinking about the greatest guitar solos that are easy to play. Maybe not greatest, but my favorite. I came up with 3:

Just What I Needed by the Cars

Keep On Loving You by REO

Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue

A great guitar solo that's super easy to play?  This has my vote:

I’m getting a new guitar tomorrow, first one in a while. Taylor acoustic electric, haven’t decided which model to get yet. Probably either a 2,3 or 4 series.

I got this cheap, Taylor influences acoustic at the start of the fall and I really like it.

With Taylor, you need to separate aesthetics from sound.  They're all well made to essentially the same specs.  The pricier models are fancier and/or use more expensive wood, but that doesn't mean they sound better to the individual player.
