Well, hello...

Thus thing is nice.

Love the roasted maple, the satin neck, the comfort cut...well, just about everything. Vacation starts when I leave work today. Know what I'll be doing.

Beautiful.  Is that a real single coil, or a stacked hum bucker?

So free to anyone that wants them, I have a dozen each Jazz III XL Tortex 1.5mm, Herco 75, and Tortex III 1mm picks. Plus random assorted Fender 351 mediums.

Maybe some of the beginner guitar threads peeps like @Gourmand or @tigol would be interested in trying some different picks?

Funny you mention that. I just grabbed a Dunlop sampler pack to try out a bunch of things. Previously, I mostly used Dunlop gator grip 2.0mms (worn to the point of no longer having that feel) and an iFixit opening pick (which is FANTASTIC, btw).

But of them, my favorites are the Tortex 0.88mm, the Jazz III nylon, and the 0.88mm Max-Grip. That latter one has good tone (not the best) but for some reason seems to be the one where I can hit all the notes on the song I've been working on.

I'm really surprised that I like the Jazz III so much. Somewhat less surprised that it's gone missing and I can't find it anywhere... But it just feels so precise when I use it; but I struggle to hit chords easily with it, vs the larger picks.

Also surprised that, after using the 2mm gator grips all this time, that I don't really like either of the thinner ones. They aren't grippy, ironically; they keep slipping in my fingers.

Also hate the Ultex. I hate the way they feel and I hate the way they sound.

Also, since all my amps are in software, I finally found out what was going on with my audio interface's drivers, but that's probably for the amp thread or... something else. Basically had to change 9 million Windows settings... and now not only are the bugs gone, but I'm getting drop-free 0.7ms latency time. W00t.

I hate Ultex too, whatever material that is I don't want it. I used purple Gator Grips for my main pick basically the whole second half of the 90s, the main reason I actually switched to Tortex was simply because they wore out so fast.

I'm happy to send you this 12 pack of Jazz IIIs if you want 'em

I've been noodling lately with an old 70's era Fender Heavy tortoise I found in my grab bag of picks, but played with the shoulder. Nice and warm.

Huh. My ultex pics sound great on a plugged in acoustic. Good combo of warmth and sparkle.

I can see that. I finger-pick my acoustic, so...

That looks definitely born out of wedlock to me.

Just watched an interview with Tom Bucovac. He said that Joe Walsh has multiple storage units around LA with thousands of guitars and amps in them. Joe is basically a hoarder, it sounds like. So much that even Joe doesn't know what he's got --- but he won't part with any of it. Sounds like my grandfather, who was an auto mechanic for 50 years. When he died we were hauling stuff like the transmission for a 49 Edsel out of his basement, and I can just hear my grandfather's reasoning for keeping it when he put it down there 30 years before ... never know when you're going to need the transmission to a 49 Edsel.

That'll be quite the auction some day.

I had a second cousin out around Quanah who literally had fields of old cars.  He was always going to get around to them one day.  He once bought a giant Ford dump truck at an auction for $60 because he noticed it had a brand new battery in it.  Parked the truck, pulled the battery.  He could fix anything.  He was greatest generation and served as a boiler tender on the USS Kadashan Bay during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.  He could fix anything.  I remember someone stopping by and asking for a cigarette.  This was in the mid 1980s.  He went out to one of those old cars and pulled out his duffle bag from when he mustered out of the Navy in 1946 and gave them to the guy.  They burned right quick.  When he died, the auction of those cars went on for days.   While I knew him, so 70s to just a few years ago, he restored exactly two cars:  a Model T and a pretty hot early 60s Chevy.  Man I wish I had pics of that pasture.

The old Goldtop got some much needed TLC today. Fret level, crown and polish, new nut and full setup. Also put a vintage ABR-1 bridge and tailpiece studs in. I have another tailpiece but it's on my '76 so gonna wait till next string change to put that on.

Update:

I have G650's picks. If you want to see them alive again, send $3.50 in small, unmarked nickels and dimes

@Deej is right. In the absence of being able to afford guitars, I'm collecting picks now.

One of these picks is not like the others. G650's are between the weird one and the tiny red Jazz III.

Could be worse.  PRS owners are coping with being unable to afford new guitars by getting bird inlay tattoos.  Another month, they’ll have to get pointy headstock tramp stamps.

The PRS headstock hands will make masturbating painful.

PRS can offset higher manufacturing costs by dropping John Mayer for Grady Stiles Jr.
