Do want a Strat-o-sonic. It would round out my SS and HH Strats nicely.

Is there anything more over the top than a LP Black Beauty with gold hardware and a Bigsby? Marcus King is ripping on one right now:

Well I found one for you then.

Thanks for the Marcus King post. I really need to see that guy at his own show. I’ve only ever seen him at a festival.

WTF?   I've never seen a fender with a Christian-style pickup.  am I the only one?

My favorite Tele is a Fender Mexico 2014 with Joe Barden/Danny Gatton pickups front and rear.  Use the tone knob and the selector and it’s a jazz machine.  Now I need one with Charlie Christian pickups…………

TIL that Etsy owned Reverb

Today, I’m excited to share that two new investors—Creator Partners and Servco—have entered an agreement to purchase Reverb from Etsy. Once the deal closes, we’ll be a privately-held, independently operated company backed by two investors who bring a passion for the musical instrument industry as well as a community-first approach and a deep desire to help transform creative industries for the better.

Getting closer to our musical roots

This next chapter for Reverb will bring us even closer to our musical roots. If you’re not familiar, Creator Partners is an investment company focused on digital transformation of creative industries, with current music investments including BMI, SoundCloud, Colors+Studios and Mogul. As for Servco, they’ve been involved in the musical instrument industry since 1937, including a long history with Fender—first as a dealer of Fender music gear in the 1950s, then as part of the group that bought the company from CBS in 1985 and now as the majority owner of the company, as well as an active investor in other musical instruments businesses.

The musicians, shops, and brands who use Reverb have always been at the center of all that we do and these two partners will help us support our community in new and better ways.

What this means for our community

When this deal is complete in the coming weeks, we’ll return to operating as a standalone business. We won’t be merging with either investor, or any of the other companies in their portfolios, and our team will remain intact. In short, you can continue buying and selling on Reverb as you normally would without any disruption.

That said, we hope you do notice positive changes as we continue to focus on making Reverb the best place to buy and sell music gear. Here’s just a sampling of what we’ve already got in the works:

  • We’ve been working to make more music-making software available on Reverb so you can change up your sound, even if you’re limited on space or money.
  • We’re getting ready to pilot a new option for selling that allows you to get paid faster and drop off your gear locally, without needing to create a listing or ship.
  • We’ve got teams working on making it easier to find what you’re looking for on Reverb, ship your items safely, and resolve your support issues quickly.

Here’s to what's next

Reverb was created for musicians by musicians as a way to connect buyers, sellers, and lovers of music gear—and since 2013, we’ve helped millions do just that. Over the past five years, we’ve learned a lot from Etsy as we’ve expanded our community. As we look ahead, with a focus on growing the entire industry by helping more people buy and sell used music gear, we’re excited to align ourselves with two new partners who share our passion and focus.

Whether you just bought your first piece of gear on Reverb this year or you’ve been selling on Reverb for more than a decade, thank you. We’re grateful to play a part in your musical journey and we’re excited to have you onboard for Reverb’s next chapter.

I have (had) Reverb pegged as an interesting potential employer. I used to be much heavier in DevOps, which is a field where Etsy was pretty pioneering, and I wouldn't mind living in Chicago where they are HQ'd and of course, a tech/digital company that is guitar focused - that would be perfect.

Anyways, just from the randos I've connected with at Reverb on LinkedIn I've noticed some "Farewell!" posts over the past year or so, no idea if that's related. Curious how it goes. I'm almost bummed that the Etsy/Reverb thing is gone just from a career interest thing but also I'm not deep in that niche any more and I don't even know if Etsy is still a leader in that space and meh.

I can’t imagine willingly living in Chicago full time. But I hate cold weather. I had some teams reporting to me up there years ago, and when I was once filling up my rental car in 5° weather with freezing fucking fog I was like “that’s a no from me dog.”

Reverb has started to seriously suck ass recently.  I could put up with the rising fees, and I even could put up with having the proceeds reported to the IRS for tax purposes, but the buyers have seriously started to suck.  I've had more people seeking mini-refunds-while-keeping-the-gear in 2025 than I have had in the previous 6 years combined.  The latest is about to get me to give up on the platform.

So a couple weeks ago, I sold a pedal on Reverb, excellent condition, with the original box.  Shipped it, the buyer received it, and immediately requested a $100 refund of the $200 purchase price because the box was damaged in shipping.  Not the pedal, it works just fine and is in excellent condition, just as described.  But, its original box was damaged in shipping.  I denied the refund request saying I don't issue refunds for packaging, and told the buyer I'd give him a 90% refund if he wanted to ship the pedal back.  The 10% was a fuck you for trying to get a 50% refund on a perfectly functional pedal for a damaged box, but I didn't word it as such.

He didn't respond.  Today, I got an email from Reverb that they are investigating the matter to see if the buyer is entitled to a full refund, in which case the money will be withdrawn from my bank account to refund the buyer.  There was no mention of the fact that the buyer has the pedal as described in the original listing and if/how it would be returned.  The note encouraged me to reach out to the buyer to resolve their complaint.  I've responded to Reverb with my side of the story, but I haven't heard back.

If they issue them a refund from my bank account, I'll be done with Reverb just as a matter of principle.  The $200 is no big loss, but fuck, the seller experience has gone into the toilet.

Close the bank account. haha.

So after all that, Reverb issued him a $25 refund at Reverb’s expense and told me not to advertise pedals as having a box if I was not prepared to provide recompense if the box is damaged during shipping.
