Impulse purchases are fun.  Went to the local guitar shop for lighter stings for my acoustic today.  I purchased way over my skill level. They had a Aspen green Gretsch 5420t hanging on the wall.  I wanted it.  It had a huge scratch on the back. Tomorrow I pick up my new Aspen green Gretsch, a non display model without the scratch.  Is this going to be Porn worthy?

you know what would go well with that is one in a brilliant orange color, I know where you can get one cheap-- no scratches

That's cool.  But whenever I see pics like that with musical instruments, I'm the opposite of Indiana Jones - it shouldn't be in a museum!  If it's functional, someone should be playing it on a stage.

reminds me of seeing Stevie Ray's "Lenny" on display at the Guitar Center on Anderson Lane along w/the Hamiltone that Billy Gibbons gave him-- not that I myself would aspire to put my grubby mitts on them

Wasn’t it Deej who’s always posting guitarist grave stones? This is for him.

No. Hint, it’s one of these guys.

I thought about the orange.  I like it a lot.  But that green one gave me a chubby.

It was great hanging with BMF today, he even got a sneak peak at the music we've been working on. Now that we have a singer I should have something to share with the rest of you soon. I'm very excited about it.

I see both sides.  Earl Scruggs's banjo is probably worth putting in a museum.  Just like Jimi's Woodstock Strat or Blackie.  It's not like there's a dearth of banjos or Strats out there to play. Earl's brother's guitar?  Do we really care?  It would probably be sitting in the back room of a pawn shop otherwise, as up close, it's a true POS.  So that one could go either way.

If it belonged to Steve Scruggs, Earl’s youngest son, you can burn it all with hell fire. He killed his wife, a high school friend and crush of mine, in the infamous murder-suicide. Liz Kissling was an adorable sweetheart. She deserved way better than that.

Every time I hear anything from or about Flatt and Scruggs I can see Liz in her UT sweatshirt in chemistry class. Heartbreaking.

What's more annoying - his advocacy for restraint, or that goofy growth on his chin?

Since he doesn't think he needs all those guitars, he should sell them and pay the Queer Eye guys to help him look less douchey.

One more comment:  He's using Page and Clapton as examples for only needing one guitar?  Page said in a radio interview in 2005 that he owned about 1500 guitars.

And Clapton?  He auctioned off some of his guitars in 1999, some more in 2004, and some more in 2009.  In the 2009 instance, it was 70 guitars.  So pretty safe to say that Clapton owned well over a hundred... probably hundreds.

So that guy's evidence for the restraint of Clapton/Page/King/etc is photos of them playing *only* one at a time?

Shit, by that metric, we could use Wilt Chamberlain as a role model for monogamy.

Not to mention Gilmour's auction set for 6/20.  Waaaaay more than one guitar in that auction.  That includes, incidentally, his black strat.

Exactly, would that be the Eric Clapton who was known first for his Gibson Les Paul tone and then equally well or better as a Strat guy starting with the Dominos? That Clapton?

As for Page playing only one guitar at a time:
