You're not fooling me. You took that at an angle that only five pickguard screws show. I know there's more.

Clearly they're not slotted screws.

This is all part of the plan. I almost sold my late 60s Ampeg SVT and refrigerator cabinet about 10 years ago but decided to keep it in case one of my kids took up bass. She’s starting out on a smaller Ampeg Rocket Bass amp with a single 15” speaker. I’m looking forward to unleashing the SVT’s 300 watts through eight tens when the time is right.

I love the sound of 1x15 amps, either bass or guitar. (Peavey Delta Blues, for instance.)

Agree. I keep looking for a 1x15 cab and a 2x10 to use as my bass rig and replace my heavy ass 4x10 Ampeg cab. I just haven't found the right ones to pull the trigger on yet.

On the topic of Telecasters, these keep popping up in my thread. Way too pricey for me, but damn they're cool:

They make a Squier version that is pretty nice for about $600. Metallic blue and gold flake.

Selling two amp heads - a Matchless Laurel Canyon and a 65amps London. Both great amps. PM me if you have any interest in either one.

I took up watercoloring a few months back. I just painted this 5x7 on the AmTrak Sunset Limited rolling through the Southwest, it's based on street art I saw in Alpine, TX. I kinda like it.

I think @sidis paints as well, not sure if he feels like sharing, but I've seen some of his art and I'd buy it if I could afford it ;p

There is an amazing amount of scatalogical guitar paraphernalia out there.

Lars also uses that one for a drum head.

If somebody already posted this, my apologies. I'm not putting it on the Beato thread, because it's Brad Paisley talking about Teles and amps and whatnot.

Holy shizz. I was already watching two stories about the blue paisley this morning and put this one aside as « I have to do at least some work today ». Glad to know the universe is telling me to go on and watch it.

The funny part (hinted at in the title of the video) is that he went to Chicago Musical Exchange to buy a badly refinished 68 Tele on the cheap so he could experiment with "paisleyfying" it, and it turned out it was a paisley Tele someone had painted black.

Oh, he can definitely play. I think he gets too much leeway on his writing and singing, but he can play for sure, and he seems to be a relatively decent dude for that world.

What's wrong with an LP Gold Top?

Not a damned thing.

This popped in my feed. I love the color combo. I've been looking for something like this in ocean turquoise with a gold pick guard after I saw a Fano at a guitar show. Not sure I'd do it to a vintage TV yellow junior, but hey, who knows how bad the original finish was messed up on this one.

15.5 for a refin, no way.

Exactly. It's a pretty refin, but still, it's a refinish. And the original Junior had only one pickup. Which means this has been routed and therefore has a decrease in value for that. I'd say it's worth 1/3 to 1/2 of what they're asking. The half being for a "I gotsta havit!" kind of buyer.

When I was in high school (early to mid 80’s) I was in a record store that doubled as a guitar shop. They were going out of business on the guitar side so I was just walking around looking at what they had. I saw this MIJ Strat hanging on the wall with several price reductions marked on the tag. I think it was down to like $175.

Mind you, I had no idea how to play guitar nor did I know anything about guitars, but I did have $175 from mowing lawns. All I knew is that it looked like the one I saw Pete Townshend playing in a video for the White City album. Bought it and then carried it around with me ever since.

About fifteen years ago, I started taking lessons and played it enough that it finally needed a re-fret. I never liked the vintage frets so replaced them with vintage tall. Wow, what a difference it made. So much easier for me to play. Wish I had done it a long time ago. I used Peter Skermetta in Austin and he did a great job. Probably not the greatest financial decision but I’m kind of attached to the guitar.

I would say we are all jealous of that purchase. 😳

I don’t remember if I’ve told these two stories here or not, so I’ll share them anyway.

High school years for me were early to mid-80’s. I played bass and sang in a band and played a little keys. There was one other band in our high school and of course we all knew each other.

The bass player for the other band came by my house sometimes because his cousins lived next door and his parents would drag him over there when they wanted to visit. He wasn’t enthused about being brought along so he would come talk music stuff with me.

One visit he says “Hey, do you want to learn to play guitar? I’m looking to sell a Strat.”

Me: “that gold Strat you played on Private Idaho at the Howdy Dance?”

Him: “yeah, that gold Strat.”

Me: “uhh, didn’t you say that is your dad’s Strat?”

Him: “yeah. So?”

I didn’t buy it. And I had the money, too, from my big earnings at Corn Dog 7.

Stupid conscience.

Second guitar that got away story involves a juvenile repeat offender thief and a Strat from a local known guitarist.

A classmate we shall call Mike was in and out of school a lot before he finally dropped out our senior year. He had missed time due to being in juvenile detention and later in county when he was old enough.

Working in the mall, I saw him often. He and a buddy routinely shoplifted and then would come by and try to sell stolen items while they were still really hot. And sometimes they would try to sell you a radar detector or car stereo they had snagged in the mall parking lot.

Gold chain necklaces were a frequent offering. And parachute pants. They stole a lot of parachute pants.

Between junior and senior year as I recall I was leaving Oshman’s sporting goods and saw Mike out in the mall. Had not seen him in a while and asked him how he was doing.

He showed me a big scar on his wrist by all the veins on the underside. He had been in county for a while and said, in his words, “ a big black guy said he was going to fuck me and if refused he was going to kill me.”

Don’t go to jail, kids.

He told Big Tweety no, and Big Tweety pulled out a shiv that was a tooth brush with the handle split, a razor blade inserted in the split, and then melted back together. He slashed Mike’s wrist. Mike ended up getting rescued by the guards and taken to the hospital. They performed surgery to repair the damage and he got a gnarly scar out of it.

He’s telling me all this after he had been let out. I’m thinking good, he will straighten up now.”

Mike: “want to buy a Fender Stratocaster?”

Me: “maybe. What kind and how much?”

Mike: “$150 (must have been the industry price for hot Strats). It’s light blue. Has some artwork painted on it.”

Me: “what kind of artwork?”

Mike: “some clouds and a rainbow that ends on a tropical island.”

Me: “Dude! You stole the Strat that Ty Haynes plays?”

Mike: “uhhhhh….”

Me: “man, everybody is looking for that guitar. Ty is going to kill you if he finds out. You better go to Houston to sell it.”

Stupid conscience again. I did not buy the Strat.

Ty Haynes was a guitar player from Angleton. He played around Brazoria County. Dude could play. Really good hard rock player.

Everybody knew that guitar was missing. I think Mike stole it at load out of a gig Ty’s band did at the VFW Hall or whatever it was that maybe later became Kick’s nightclub.

Mike had a sad ending just before the holidays in a car crash. I wonder how many other stolen guitars he had at home.

Moral of both stories: you can have more guitars for less money if you don’t have a conscience.

That’s a great looking Strat.

And +1 on the tall frets. Love me some huge fretwire.

So I got a call about this Tuesday prior to public listing, if anyone has some change laying around, this is a super cool Burst with a sweet birdseye in the top. Previously owned by Lenny Kravitz.
