For the life of me, I’ll never understand the consternation over rankings. Feels like we used to ridicule aggy for this behavior during the Fran era.

Sure, Rivals has an agenda and a sketchy approach to ranking kids. Why give them any attention about it at this point.

In summary, get off my lawn.

Really wish he would have been able to enroll early if they are set on initially giving him snaps at quarterback. Personally I'd prefer to make him a LB day 1 and roll with Thompson, Card and Milroe in 2021. Now please bookmark this post to throw in my face in a few years.

saw a video on FB of greatest TXHSFB players posted by Fox Sports Southwest:

...someone on there mentions Haynes King as one of the greatest players ever.

i rewound it to see if maybe there was another Haynes King - but they they go to his Dad (the Longview coach) next and ask him about it.

there is literally no universe in which Haynes King is the greatest TXHSFB QB of even the last 5-10 years (Kyler Murray) much less all time.

So like Ford's ranking in Texas is #158 on ESPN, #112 on Rivals, and #135 on 247 but is #161 in the composite, doesn't add up?  The ESPN one may have just been updated IDK, just curious.

Same with Welch.  #156 on ESPN, #110 on Rivals, and #134 on 247, but #160 in the composite.

It's possible they both got moved up some on ESPN and Rivals hasn't done the full state rankings yet either.

It can add up if the composite isn't wildly different. Example:

Look at Recruit G. 5th in each service, 7th in composite. Using weights for the different services doesn't remove this possibility.

i know after Rivals got hoodwinked with that fake recruit, 247 said they were changing the weighting and some other things involving the composite. i believe they give more weight to their rankings vs others (so it isn't a simple avg)

they use "scores" not rank # i think, so a composite rank of 1 across all systems in a simple avg would be a composite "score" of 1.0000 i think - then they rank everyone by their "score"

Right but using scores versus ranks makes it even more possible to have this situation happen.

Haynes King wasn't even the greatest 6A QB of 2019.

I was waiting for the Raikes ranking. lol. He went to all the regional adidas/rivals camps. Unsurprisingly, he got connected to A&M through that Adidas circuit and is way overrated by Rivals at 209. Both ESPN and 247 have him as a 3 star. 247 has him as the #619 player in the country.

The explanation is he never went to any of their camps. Pretty much all the guys Rivals has way under ranked compared to the other services are guys who didn’t go to their camps.

No way. JQJ’s ceiling as a QB is way too high to not give him a shot there. If he pans out at QB, it will increase UT’s win total drastically more than him being an all-conference LB.

I doubt the composite has updated yet since the new Rivals and ESPN rankings

It was one moron at Vandegrift. Who cares? They couldn't get his Dad to agree (hell his Dad was surprised his kid was tough enough to play) and the Vandegrift guy basically had no argument.

Horns 247 / Greg Biggins / Zachary Evans vs Bijan Robinson, who's nation's top RB prospect?

(Love the comments about his ability as a receiver (good enough to be a 4 star receiver if he played that position, exclusively).  I watched portions of the Polynesian Bowl, and a couple of his moves were Saquon Barkely - ish ... )).

Recruiting Rakestraw is like me taking an STD test in college. I might have passed, but I didn’t deserve to.

We were in way too late and we only win if Alabama does not push for him.

Everyone was in late on Rakestraw, but interesting that both Bama and Texas came in as late as they did, 7 and 10 days after Georgia.

The mouth breather, Roach thinks Missouri is the one to beat. I think I heard that right on the podcast through his various Darth Vader impressions.

Seems Missouri was the first legit conference school to offer, I guess that's what Roach is "guessing" off of. That was three months ago. Took another two months before the other bigger offers started rolling in, and pretty much all at once outside of Bama and Texas. Hopefully Texas can use its late start as some type of recency bias with the kid.
