ESPN still has Majors ranked really high, he probably stays a 4-star in the composite.

247 dropped Chris Thompson to a 3*.

Well, the same would go for CTJ too. I think he's going to be really good if he plays here, but the rankers don't know what to do with a in-the-box safety in 2019. He'd a hybrid type here.

Yeah, Roach and EJ have both said time and time they JQJ would be their #1 player in the state if he was ranked as an athlete instead of QB.

LoL at CT3 dropping to a 3 star.  I think he's a top 20 player in the state.

Majors should be a 3 star.  He's a guy that is on the Dominic Espinosa, Elijah Rodriguez path.  He needs 3 years to get stronger and bigger before he can contribute or he will be pushed around like a rag doll.  You stash him away, let him get bigger, and then he can be a very solid contributor.

Crawford is severely underrated.  I think he's a top 10 corner in the country.

Collins at 280 with his size and his athleticism should be a top 50 player in the country.  There's a reason Bama wants him bad.

Didn't he rep at Center?

And he said he learned the footwork in 2 hours before, so it’s not exactly natural to him at that point. Plus 1v1 with no traffic to either side isn’t exactly normal for a center.

But, if he can’t yet play the position he’s being recruited to play, then by all means drop him.

So much of these rankings are about clean projections. If it were just about pure talent, JaQuinden Jackson was the best player in the state last year.

Don't underestimate what schools you are considering, who your trainer is and which shoe company AA game you plan to attend.

Espinosa should never be considered the type of player Rodriguez was for us last year, Espinosa never put together a season like Elijah just did. He and Ash somehow get too much praise by our fanbase for what they "could" have been without the injuries.

Indeed. Camps, 7on7, trainers, etc... It's not football. It's not even practice. It's barely exercise. These kids are getting bumps based on their exercise habits and the number of camps they go to and twitter mentions they get.

The camps matter most for getting your commits to recruit other players, not so much for teaching or evaluation. We got burned with the Rivals camp this year.

Espinosa started all 13 games as a RS FR, all 13 games as a SO, all 13 games as a JR, started the first game of his senior year (broke his ankle and was out for the season) - started 40 games at Texas

in 14, his SR Year, he was on the watch list for the Rimington and Outland trophy and a pre season All Big 12 team member.

Rodriguez only played 34 games (18 starts), didn't start any games as RS FR, started 3 games as a SO, missed his JR year and started 14 games as a SR between C and RG.

You seriously under rate Espinosa, a guy who started every game he played in after his RS year and started more games across 4 years than Rodriguez played total.

Looks like we will agree to disagree. He did start a lot and his best season was not as good as Elijah's last season, Elijah played at a high level last year.

If the 247 page is correct - they dropped Majors 479 spots down to 717.

https://247sports.com/PlayerSport/Jake-Majors-at-Prosper-217118/RecruitRankHistory/?history=top247

that is a HUGE change

something still isn't quite right though. his 247 profile says he is the #695 overall player, #13 OC and #93 in the state (using 247 rankings) but the linked page above (rankings history) has him as the #717 overall player

247 is insanely low on him if this is the case. his current composite ranking is #171 overall, and they have him as outside the top 700? that has to be the biggest difference i have ever seen for a player's composite vs singular ranking (excluding guys who are un ranked)

edit: sounds like they are still working on things

Deal! Not trying to shit on Elijah btw, he was excellent last year and really developed well at Texas over his time on campus!

NP. I've never been ok with starts being a measure for considering a guy to be good. We've had that happen too many times over the last decade. Vahe is the most recent example. Those years are hopefully over, we have a healthy program where guys who have been developing are ready to shine. Even if for one or two seasons. I want to see grown men who play at a high level and with the depth we are creating in the trenches, hopefully we've arrived to that point.

The OL class looks less sterling now. Weird.

I think we're all more than fine with Garth and Parr. Going after Majors instead of Anderson, Baker or Hayes was a bit puzzling from the jump, but if we finish out with Lindberg or Karic it's a class we can all be super happy with heading into 2021.
