I'm not crazy about Cooks moving his decision back some more after the LSU offer.

Can't believe we're striking out on Plan C OL recruits now. Onward to Plan D!

We might get De'Kedrick Sterns after all. But less because the staff thinks he's a hidden gem and more because he's the next guy down in the rankings.

Since you're pedaling porn. What does this mean against the better offenses in the Big 12? Is he going to strip sack Rattler and have him seeing ghosts?

It's a win if Texas can pressure the qb from the middle or ends so qbs have to throw earlier--not go through progressions which leads to an int, fumble or incompletion.  Long arms means they can grab ball carriers while fending off blocks and disrupt passing lanes.  We haven't had an excellent DT since Malcolm Brown.  Poona was good but not the same as Brown.  Even if Collins is coming around the end, he can disrupt a hell of a lot.  And if they double team team him (later), then it frees up others to make plays.  But mostly, if he can get a few hits on Rattler, he may get happy feet.  I loved it when Texas knocked Mayfield out of the RRR game but unfortunately, he returned.  Hopefully, they can do the same with Rattler and finish the job.

Excuse me Poona was kickass but surrounded by fucking scrubs.

What we're saying is that a string of highly unlikely events needs to occur to put JQJ in a position to start. If that happens he might surprise us all as the next VY.

For everyone pumping JQJ, why can't he just win the job? You know, beat out the guys in front of him? Why does this unlikely confluence of events need to occur to discover his real skills? If your response is "he's a gamer" or "he's not a practice player", you're fooling yourself into believing something because you're a contrarian. "He's an alpha". Stop.

There are three things I trust TH to do well. First, he's built a great player personnel staff and the evals are (almost) all good to great. Second, he seemingly can't lose as an underdog with time to prepare, from smacking around Jimbo in the Peach bowl to Kirby in the Sugar. Finally, QB development. Regardless of skill-set (Barrett/Jones/Burrow/King/Buechele/Ehlinger), they have all achieved a significant college ceiling that they may not have otherwise.

So, if Tom trots out Card as the starter, I'm going to trust that he's the best QB in the room. If Tom goes with JQJ, I'm going to trust he's the best QB in the room. It's really that simple.

Are you seriously trying to say TH knows more about the QB situation at Texas than John Q Surly poster?  You’ve got a lot to learn my friend.

Poona was pretty bad ass. I just disliked the years he played--mostly the coaches.  He could have been so much better in the right system.  Glad he's proving all the pro scouts wrong.

LJ might have gotten cold feet but they feel good.

I personally think having cold feet does not feel good. I prefer warm feet, not hot and sweaty, but just warm.

It’s hard to blame a quality running back for having doubts when you factor in what our OL could look like after this year.

He! Won't! Run! Behind! This! Class!

You're straight up using an aggy talking point there. He'll have Hookfin, Angilau, Jones, and potentially Majors and Karic who are all looking good.

Conner will be around for his final year, who knows maybe Moore or TJohnson could turn the light on.

I! Didn’t! Mention! This! Class!

Our OL depth doesn’t look great, IMO, and we’re talking about a lot of unknowns.

Well the other finalist is aggy.  You think the OL outlook going forward for them is better than ours?

No shit we’re talking about a lot of unknowns because we finally have a healthy OL room where guys sit for 2-3 years before they play. The current OL is not scaring off LJ from committing. It’s all the bags being offered by other schools.

Meanwhile, we have true freshmen listed as backups.

Your stupid is showing. We have two tackles injured and Tyler opted out, so a freshman making it on a two-deep for the media isn’t meaningful. Okafor would move to Tackle before Karic ever played in a real game.

So, not sitting for 2-3 years prior to playing? Thanks for helping me make my point.

You all know I’m not a negative outlook guy most of the time, but I’m not going to pretend our OL room hasn’t been and won’t continue to be an issue. It’s continually the most disappointing recruited position and absolutely vital to success. It’s unacceptable.

You’re being willfully obtuse. Hookfin was our sixth OL. We’re literally rolling out an OL consisting of 4th yr-3rd-4th-5th-3rd. As in no 1st or second years starting, and having a single second year who’s ahead of schedule playing isn’t a sign of a bad OL room.
You also ignored that we have 3 of our top 8 OL out, so a true freshman making it as a backup on a depth chart for the media isn’t meaningful.

As for recruiting, we took Cosmi and Kerstetter in a transition class, then  3 4-stars and a JUCO in 2018, plus C. jones who might be the best of the bunch.  We took 3 4-stars and a JUCO in 2019 and then 4 4-stars in 2020. Our OL room has talent. You’re just going hyperbolic over 2021 not going well.

Some people struggle with shades of grey.

I agree with @Burt Macklin. We should be worrying about how our O-line looks healthy before worrying about how it'll look like injured. The practice reports on the position group have already ranged from somewhat to unequivocally negative. Something tells me that Hookfin wasn't the magical piece that was going to make everything great before he went down with his injury.

blOU beat us in the Big 12 title game by completely shutting down our rushing attack. If we're going to win the Big 12 title this year, the OL will have to improve, and fast. Otherwise it won't be a good look for Hand.

1) This is the biggest key for success and we're one of the few teams in that position. Experience mixed in with some talent is the key. The '21 cycle is skewing perception of the current OL. Texas might have 2 or 3 NFL players in the starting 5 with guys that have been in the system for 3 years. On paper, this is the best starting 5 we've had in over a decade.

2) Texas was near the top in blue-chips from '18-20 in OL recruiting. Obviously, Hand needs to get his shit together in the '21 cycle but the idea Texas hasn't been stacking talent at the position is wrong. I don't know where this narrative is coming from but like you said I guess people are being hyperbolic.

3) Most teams only have 6 to 8 guys that are quality depth which is about where Texas was before Tyler opted out and Hookfin was banged up. Outside of maybe 1 or 2 teams (like Alabama) you're pretty much screwed if you have to dig deep into OL depth. See OU last year who went to complete shit when a couple of their tackles were injured for a few games....and they're consistently one of the top OL in the country.

4) The '21 cycle is worrisome but it can be flipped with a couple transfers. There are going to be a ton of quality options available with Covid19. If Texas lands 1 or 2 quality multi-year transfers the script gets flipped pretty quickly. It's not like Texas hasn't had success on the transfer market either.

Lol. Texas had 437 yards in the Big 12 title game. OU stacked the box and Texas punished them with 349 yards in the passing game.

Texas didn't lose the Big 12 title game because of the rushing attack. They lost because they didn't convert those yards into points. The 128 penalty yards didn't help either.

I read your first two sentences and was about to post “when satya chimes in as a rational voice of reason, you know you’re being a lil bitch”. But then the rest of your post was totally on brand. Never change, satya. Tiger can’t change his stripes.

We couldn't convert yards into points because our offense became predictable. Our offense became predictable because we couldn't run the ball against one of the worst run defenses in the country going into the game. Watson and Ingram combined for a dismal 46 yards on 17 carries. That level of production isn't going to win Texas titles.

We averaged nearly 10 yards a pass. If anything they tried to run the ball too much because of the defensive scheme and the fact they were killing OU in the passing game.

You're confusing playcalling with an inability to run the ball. If a team stacks the box and gives you 10 yards a pop in the passing game that's not an "inability to run the ball." That's just dumb playcalling trying to run it.

Holy shit. You really don’t know anything about football. We called the game to OU’s strengths almost the entire game. It had nothing to do with out OL not being good enough at run blocking.
Our OL was elite in line yards last year btw so keep trying. Even when you’re negative about bad performances you can’t figure out what the negatives actually were.

Here are the number of blue-chips the last 3 cycles ('18-20) not including grad transfers for the OL. I get people are upset over the '21 cycle but the idea Texas hasn't been landing talent couldn't be more wrong. Especially when you factor in transfers.

Georgia: 11

Texas: 10

Alabama: 8

Ohio State: 8

Clemson: 6

LSU: 5

When you factor in the grad transfers, Texas is probably t-1st with Georgia in the most blue-chip recruits on the OL from the '18-20 cycles.

The title game was 2018, not 2019. The 2018 O-line squad was not a great run-blocking unit, we only had 3.8 YPC that year and didn't break a single run over 40 yards. Don't pretend that it was all on the play selection, blOU went into that game as one of the worst rushing defenses in the country and rendered us one-dimensional without much effort.

Also LOL @ bringing up last year's O-line. Sure, when you ignore the 37 bloody sacks we gave up, it was better on the ground. People are really setting themselves up for a letdown with this O-line group. The practice reports are there. You can read them.

I don't think anyone is shocked the DL is giving the OL issues. The DL is the strongest position group on the roster and guys have been out on the OL with injuries.

This is called going full Satya. Instead of being pumped about potentially having a good DL in this new 4 man front you're bitching about the OL. If the OL was dominating the DL you would be bitching about how the DL sucks.

I didn’t read all your drivel so I thought y’all were talking about the 2019 game, but you trying to ignore that we had an elite run blocking OL by pointing out sacks is pretty hilarious. Never change satya, never change.

Our offense became predictable because it was run by Tim fucking Beck. Pull yourself together,  Wescott.
