He was the assistant dean when I was in law school.

To say this is extremely surprising is an understatement.  He seemed like the biggest nerd alive, and the idea of him spamming people with Tupac lyrics has elevated him (as another poster mentioned) to one of the coolest old white dudes in the state.

Ol' Jerry actually had some great policy ideas too . . . like that time he suggested to the governor that Iowa should start a war on poverty instead of a war on drugs so the police can bother me

You left out Minnesota, which I've heard is the greatest mutual hatred between IA and a bordering state.

Yup.  It's Minnesota and Nebraska at the top of the hate chain, and everyone else is a long ways behind.  I openly celebrate Wisconsin, and ambivalent to the others.  I think Des Moines area probably hates Nebraska more just due to proximity and the much higher likelihood of seeing GBR mouthbreathers there.  No one in Minnesota gives a fuck about college sports, and most Minnesotans that move to Iowa are going to ISU and become Cyclones.

Minnesota is kind of a northern Texas, and they view us the way you view Oklahoma.

There's an I-35 observation I've made:  the states at each end (TX, MN) are extremely prideful and view the next states down the highway as completely beneath them (OK, IA).  Those states in turn resent the bookends and are generally "meh" towards to the next states inland (KS, MO) from them.  The middle states (KS, MO) hate each with other equal passion

It's cool that his son is supporting him and it's obviously a great/funny story but it cracks me up his son overlooks the questionable decisions he made. Sending an email to all 4,300 DHS employees to listen to Tupac in honor of the rappers birthday seems rather troubling to start.

ultimately what surprises me most is, if you told me that in Iowa "some high-level government official was forced to resign because he was spamming people with inappropriate music at work!" I would have assumed he was a Juggalo

Should have been given a medal.  So many nerds love Tupac for some reason.  People need to understand there is a distinct possibility that the obsession was with the insane clown posse.  In the words of a great internet truth teller of the past whose name has been lost to time, “yo why u clown dat bitch ass bad boy.  FUcC DAt.”

I can sympathize. I almost lost my job due to infatuation with Starland Vocal Band.

Getting rid of the sig is on the list of things I need to learn right after adding and avatar and figuring out how to attach photos and gifs.

I’m not savvy at this.

I've seen a lot of weird shit but this is really out there.

If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now
