I wouldn't consider Conner or Majors "big humans." They're more of finesse position blockers than anything. I thought our lack of a reliable power back was as big of a problem as the interior OL. It's why we needed to run OZ so much.

I think you are correct. And OZ meant the big players had to go catch smaller faster players to be successful.

Conner wasn't strong enough and routinely got thrown to the ground or otherwise shedded.

any hope for connor stroh?  that kid is big and strong.

Stroh definitely fits the physical profile of what we need on the interior. There needs to be a real focus in the offseason on getting the best 3 G-C-G combination to get some push and run inside zone effectively. It would be great if Daniel Cruz was physically ready at C but that might be asking too much of a RS FR. I can’t tell if DJ Campbell fits that mold, he should given his size and athleticism but he’s been part of the trio that’s played this year. I’d also like to see what we have in Neto.

We have not embraced the hate. We need maulers, angry mean sons of bitches. We need stone cold killers. Not saying everyone hates us but damn it sure feels that way. When we recruit nasty, assholes that are blood thirsty then we will have a chance. We need guys that are going to protect Arch, and make defenses pay for looking at him wrong. Why does it always seem the Midwest teams get those types.  No more Mr Nice Guy bullshit. Keep Mack the hell away from this program.

That’s painful to hear. I felt especially in the UGA and ASU games outside zone was getting exploited by the opposing defense.

Oline was the biggest weakness of the team in the post-season.  Their run blocking vs UGA, ASU and tOSU was embarrassing.

Embarrassing would be an upgrade from my perspective.

Hayden Conner played like he didn't have hands, just bumping into guys

Teams figured out after the first Georgia game that they could throw numbers at the LOS to disrupt the run game and pass pro. Part of that is due to no one fearing Quinn's legs. We also lacked the outside threat, Worthy last season and Bond prior to getting injured, to hurt teams that gambled like that.

Yeah we definitely agree there. I’ve said as much in different places here. The script was out on Texas. Rush without abandon because Quinn can’t hurt you. And it did work.

You have to have a QB capable of hitting the outside threat on a 25+ yard pass consistently as well IMHO.

I'm still perplexed by this. Texas has an unnamed #99 lined up next to Banks on the left side. Jermayne Lole is the only 99 on the roster. Teams use DL as extra run blockers pretty commonly, but if that was Lole why wouldn't his jersey have a name on it? I have no idea who that is and why there's a player with no name on his jersey on the field. He tries to get to a linebacker instead of blocking Tuimoloau and Helm doesn't do jack shit and Tui makes the play. The whole thing is confusing me.

Kelvin Banks an the FB are the only two that don't get their shit rocked. Williams and Davis do okay I guess but their men aren't really interested in the play, rather edge contain.

99 hits Tuimoloau and slides off him. There was a seam had he been able to hold that block.

There’s a vid where Will Howard is looking for Ewers. You can see the #99 with no name go by in the top right corner.

that's a lot of 4th and 5th year seniors who are really fucking good on that defense, oh and a sophomore who's the best safety in college football. # 1 defense in the country for a fucking reason, just fucking loaded.

Don't get me wrong, I hated the toss play. It was an absolute dog shit call. BUT. If you want to take a glass half full approach 1st down was busted by Tuimoloau, 2nd down was busted by Downs and 4th down was busted by Sawyer. They're one of the top 2 or 3 defenses in college football and on the deciding drive of the game there were plays made by their three best players.

Repetitive and redundant but QE's lack of mobility greatly damaged/limited the effectiveness of the O line. A second or two more to execute a play would have been invaluable. QE did not have the ability to contribute that one or two seconds.

Very poor footwork by #99, whoever it was.

Pretty amazing the worst defensive play ever and the worst block ever in the same game.

I’m almost to the point where having a mobile QB would be more of a counter to the Oline’s deficiencies rather than an added piece to our offense. The Oline this year gave up so many pressures and free rushers, and that’s including Ewers inability to maneuver the pocket.

It also highlights Ewers had no chance on the play. Trying to read the defense and having a defender breathing down your neck a second after the snap is extremely difficult for any QB.

yeah this is entirely on Cam. There are plenty of things to pick apart in Ewers' performance, but this isn't one of them.

Young receivers can’t get open and OL can’t block.  That’s a recipe for disaster.  Even with all that, we had a chance.  When we get this Death Star fully operational there will be no mercy.  Time for Sark to hire a playcaller.

Downs and Ransom were very impressive. I would see a 1-2 yard and think an OL just got whipped and you would one of those getting up from the bottom of the pile. They got downhill quick and they can really tackle, especially Downs

He's looking in at the LB that moves up over Hutson. I'm not sure if he thought they might run a twist.

Really bad play. Seen OnTexas hint he may need surgery on that knee after the season, so I am not sure how healthy he is.

Going into the season I thought we'd have one of the top 5 OLines and top 5 WR groups in the country, but it never felt like we did after the game against Michigan. Very disappointing year considering it we got all the way to the semifinals. Kelvin Banks is legit, but I remember watching a game within the first few weeks and asking my friend if we got wors in the interior of the oline and RT, it appears we did.

One generational LT, a sure fire 1st round pick at RT and tons of experience, frequently called best OL in the nation and they once again looked feeble in run blocking against good comp.

Frustrating.

Am I crazy to think Goosby is better than him as a freshman? Is it because Sark wanted to keep Goosby's redshirt?

Goosby was a redshirt last season, but wouldn’t have mattered anyway, the postseason didn’t co7nt against redshirt status for anyone.

Love Banks, but he isn't a generational LT. He's really good in pass pro due to his IQ, athleticism, and above average length, but not overly dominant as a blocker.

Sawyer beat Hutson like a drum to the inside on third down, maybe that influenced things on fourth down? Either way, Cam has to be better.

Can’t wait for next season, I like saying Goosby, I say it, like ten times a day. During the games he has played in I have almost lost my mind.

Goosby will be a first round draft pick and he can play LT, RT, and interior. I hope we compliment him on the opposite side, but idk much about anyone else on the bench.

He was pretty poor vs ASU. He is better in pass pro and Cam is way better run blocking, but that is a expected comparing a RT to a LT

I thought pass pro was great overall.  Q had plenty of time on multiple occasions.

The run push however was pathetic, and we really need a coming to God moment from the OL in that regard.

The only issue with the pass pro is Quinn getting the ball knocked down too many times this year.

How long has that been a thing? I heard it mentioned during a play off game this year.

I think we have had such bad line play for so long we forgot what good line play looked like. Will Howard had a ridiculous amount of time to throw the football. We couldn't get to him without some tricks. Same thing with Clemson. Our line still has a ways to go to be that consistent.

Wish people would stop saying this shit. It's not always about size. Conner Williams was a small tackle and would maul people in the run game. Studdard and Blalock weren't giants.
