Sony Spider-Man Villain Universe to End With 'Kraven The Hunter'

Quote

After spending nearly half a billion dollars, Sony will mercifully cancel its Spider-Man villain universe after the release of Kraven The Hunter this weekend.

The Wrap reported that Sony spent more than $465 million in combined production costs on films like Morbius, Madame Web, and now Kraven. The studio also produced three moderately successful Venom films. With that trilogy finished, it seems like the right time for Sony to focus on Spider-Man cinematic offerings that actually feature Spider-Man.

About time Sony.

It's amazing (pun intended) how consistently shitty Sony has been in putting together Marvel movies, time and time again.

I'm specifically speaking of all the ones that Marvel studios has been hands off with.

Whoops. Borked post.

They basically pulled a Kramer and fell backassward into that first Venom movie.  If it hadn't been for that, they would have gone 0-4.

The trailer looks more like a DC movie. Dark cinemetography and a screenplay that takes itself way too serious. I have no desire to see it and probably never will. I couldn't form an opinion on Madam Web because I literally could not follow what the hell was happening.

Kraven is currently at 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. I may have to see it just to see if it's as bad as Madame Web.

Oh god that movie was SO BAD

The only time it is truly awful is the final season.  It's so bad then that it will piss you off.

I'm not sure but Bron and Jaime's Excellent Adventure in Dorne wasn't in the last season, was it? Because that was worse than the Holocaust.

Longtime executive Nate Moore will depart Marvel Studios and transition to producing [outside of Marvel] in early 2025.

“Nate is a fantastic executive and colleague as well as a wonderful friend to all of us here at Marvel Studios,” Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito said. “He has been a core member of our team since 2010, and his influence will continue to reverberate in our storytelling. Although we’ll miss him a great deal, we look forward to watching what he does next while also having the good fortune of working with him in a new way on our next Black Panther movie.”

Looks interesting. It's an alternate timeline where Norman Osborn is Peter's mentor. The kid he saves is Harry Osborn. I believe the girl isn't MJ but a friend who probably takes the Ned role in this one.

Damn, really looking forward to that. I'm so bad with movie memory, gonna need to find a comprehensive recap of the Netflix series.

Same.  D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is such a great villain. Can’t believe they wasted him in echo.

I'm pretty sure that anyone bothered by that was already mad that he's Black.

He's not wrong.  Folks need to read the comics more.

Agreed. To me a big part of it is that anyone can be Captain America. It’s not about the super strength, the serum, or being from America. It’s about the code, the desire to always do what’s right even if no one is looking, and if the whole world tells you to move, plant yourself like a tree and say no.

Who cares? Are you going to see the movie or not based on an interview he gave? If not, that says more about you than Anthony Mackie. The whole Cap saga has shown MCU Cap isn't just the good soldier who does everything America tells him to do. He tries to do the right thing even in the face of everyone telling him he's wrong or he's beaten.

I hope when Chris Evans comes back in Secret Wars he comes back as Hydra Cap just to turn the image of the character completely on his head.

The people who aren’t were probably not going to show up in the theaters to watch it anyways, because reasons.

Loved him in Deadpool vs Wolverine.  Especially the scene after the credits.

You are 1000% correct

Still a truly dumbass thing to say before the movie opens.

Me and the youngest child watched the first two episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man last night on Disney+. Pretty enjoyable. The animation can be a bit jarring at times but it does a good job of recreating a comic book panel. It seems similar to Tom Holland's Spider-Man as far as a younger May and I think it's the same high school.

From what I understand it was meant to be Tom Hollands's Spider-Man origin story but something with rights complicated it so now it's just its own separate thing

It’s interesting because when it was first announced way back when it seemed more like Peter in college set back in the 60s. It was originally called Freshman Year.

I love that they are going with the Jack Kirby vibes.  Really love that.  Glad they are playing with design, even if this F4 is from a different universe.

Please dont suck

It's set outside of the main Marvel universe in the movies, so it has a very good chance of not sucking based on that and the fact that they are going hard into the Kirby stuff.

Spoiler

My guess is that Doctor Strange will warp them into our universe at the end of their movie.

yeah there's no way they stay out of the mainline MCU for too long.

Also I LOVE Pedro....but I'm still having a very hard time seeing him as Reed.  Probably just need to see more.
