I know we have a few Surly Docs and I have a question. It hurts when I do this... But seriously, I do have a question. My feet are fubar (Trump spurs) and always hurt. My VA PA is telling me to take 6 Aleve a day. I thought 3 was max and this guy is telling me to double it daily. I'm sure my liver and kidneys have bigger issues to deal with, but this seems like excessive piling on.

If you have the same bone spur diagnosis as Trump your presciption is golf, football and fun!  If you bone spurs were like mine I needed Orthotics to change the angle of the nerve to going across the spurs to give me any relief. Six Alieve a day endlessly is unwise. What was sort of weird is that I don't really have the bone spur pain amymore.  I don't know if it's because I quit running a long time ago, or because I wore crocs, tevas, barefoot and other softer soled shoes mostly the last 10 years instead of dress shoes. I needed arch support in the sandals and new crocs work until they get too broken in.

You might also wonder if my treatment of hyper stretching the Achilles tendon when I had planter facilitis from playing soccer about 6-7 years ago may have also helped.  You might try the night boots to stretch the Achilles and give a little less irritation across the spur?

Maybe try a real foot doctor.  They'll probably send you to physical therapy.

I had super bad heel pain for a few months.  Between the therapist showing me stretches and exercises, ice, rest and changing shoes it's fine now.  If you are cheap, maybe look for plantar fasciitis stretches on YouTube.

If you have worn the same brand shoes since forever, it might be time to change.

Oh yeah.  I've worked with Podiatrists before.  Those guys know their way around a foot.  That's a good place to start.

I’m no ortho, but I am internal medicine trained before I specialized in cardiology. That much aleve will fuck up your kidneys and punch a hole in your gut causing you to bleed out of your ass. That “provider” is a good god damned moron. Explains why he/she works at the VA.

I’ve had shoulder pain for several months. I thought it was some kind of tendon inflammation but it hasn’t stopped. I’m a side sleeper with my left arm under my head but that ends up causing me a lot of discomfort.

I’ve got reduced internal rotation (can’t move my left arm up my back like I need to scratch) and scratching my head with my left hand is weak.

I had some significant lower back pain earlier this year that was solved through 4 sessions with Airrosti and stretching.

Do I try PT through my GP first and do PT or go to my shoulder surgeon and get X-rays to see if it’s a torn rotator cuff?

Go to an upper extremity Ortho.  He will probably order an MRI, unless it’s an obvious diagnosis.  Might need an injection or PT or surgery, but you probably won’t know without advanced imaging.  Could be an AC joint issue, biceps tendon, RC, or a host of other issues. Go to your GP when you have a cold.  Go to a fucking specialist when you have a non generic issue.  Don’t walk...run to a specialist.

Dealing with exact same thing. I think I slept on it weird initially as well but didn't think anything of it and kept working out etc.  After 3-4 weeks I finally realized it's just getting worse (and working out wasn't even an option due to the pain).  I made an appointment with an ortho but started doing PT on my own in advance as appt was a week out (I found "Ask Dr. Jo" youtube channel with various shoulder stretches/strengthening exercises and did daily).   By the time I went to ortho, it was starting to get better so he didn't think an MRI necessary and ordered PT.  Have been to 1 PT session so far and pretty much same exercises I was already doing.  Going at least 2X next 2 weeks then hopefully will just finish on my own.   But 10 days in so far of working on it daily has it feeling a TON better already.

If you chase the Aleve down with a glass of vodka, it neutralizes the effect on your stomach and kidneys.

Add me to the list of fucked up shoulders. Got an MRI through family doctor but now need a specialist. Anybody got a orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulders?

Where are you at?  Just FYI, from what I've read (and confirmed talking to orthopedic and PT with my issue) surgery should be an absolute last resort only after a few months of PT failed to fix the issue.  Ortho I saw didn't want to order an MRI ( he could tell based on physical exam any tear was likely minimal) because he said no matter what it looked like he was prescribing 6 weeks of PT.

I'm now 2 weeks into formal PT (1 week on my own before that) and slow and steady progress.  It felt so much better after about 10 days that I was hopeful it would be "fixed" by now but think it's just going to take a while before it's back to normal.  But I definitely realized how little I did to strengthen the scapular muscles in my normal exercise routine.

I'm SW Austin.  I hear what you're saying.  I definitely don't want surgery.  I wanted an MRI so the PT would know exactly what we're dealing with and rehab accordingly.  I have an appointment with orthopedic surgeon next week.  The guy worked for UT for over 30 years and is in UT Hall of Honor so I suspect he knows what he's doing.  I only have the MRI report but it notes minor tears in two RC tendons and something called a SLAP tear of labrum.  The latter I think is the real issue but will find out next week.

Oh, and I hate my bed but it is not a foam mattress.
