Not sure if it's been mentioned but:

Was pretty good. Bale, Crowe, and Foster chewing up the scenery.

The original is near the top of my short list of Westerns sans John Wayne.

1. High Noon

2. 3:10 to Yuma

Itching for something I haven’t seen before. I’m a little light on Wastwood knowledge. Is Pale Rider worth $3.99?

There is nothing quite like a good piece of hickory!

The new True Grit is good.  It's filmed in a modern way, so it is nice to not have to watch 1960 cinematography, and I like the Dude better than the Duke and Barry Pepper makes for a fine replacement of Duvall.  Matt Damon is pretty funny.

The original was carried by Duke but it took liberties with the book and sugar coats the ending.  Charles Portis wrote a grim dark novel with extraordinary characters and the last part of her rescue and epilogue is horrific and not a Hollywood ending.  This one is far closer.  I would have loved the remake as a miniseries.

I used quotes from this scene in a business ethics class I took.

Boss and Wade are true to their ethical beliefs.  Marshall Poole is not.

“Your call, Marshall.” -> “You know what we believe.  And we’ll kill you for it.”

”We don’t need to settle this tonight.” -> “I don’t actually believe in my beliefs.”
