You’re stating this as fact and that’s the problem.  And it’s not based on any expertise at all. As someone who’s job is often second-guessed by the uninformed public you should know better. You’re doing the same thing to the mental health industry.

You can be of sound mind and still be evil.  Otherwise every mass murderer is absolved of responsibility.  After they were sick, it wasn’t there fault. That’s what makes that line of thinking dangerous. It’s a built in excuse for mass murder.

You're right.  He's perfectly sane by mental health industry standards.  He just has a penchant for killing a lot of people when the mood strikes him. You call that evil.  I'd say his head isn't in proper order.  Don't get me wrong, I believe in evil, but you can't tell me that you think his thinking is normal even if mental health professionals deem it sane.

Bobby_Batronic is far more concerned with how a terrorist is perceived on the internet than the fact that a terrorist gunned down 20 people.

20 people lost their lives, but what's really important is that we don't attribute his actions to his admitted motivations.

Killing total strangers outside of war or self defense is illogical.  If you're ok with killing someone, you've got a mental problem, something is missing.  Going thru a shitty contested divorce, I'd be lying if I told you the thought of ending my ex's life didn't pass thru my mind a time or two.  The difference is, I didn't cross that threshold.

How are you going to apply logic to someone who doesn't have it/understand it?  Apply all the laws you want to law abiding citizens, but someone who doesn't give a shit about your friends and family because they don't have a problem killing them isn't going to obey your fucking laws to begin with.  Most, if not all of us would follow the law.  The problem is we're not the ones out killing people for sport.

Banning guns will probably work as well as banning pot.  I get it, something needs to be done.  Here, do this.

Your stupidity astounds.  The vast majority of these events happen with high-capacity rapid-fire semi-automatic weapons.  I'm sorry that you have a tiny dick, but that doesn't mean the rest of us need to fear for our lives when we enter a fucking Wal-Mart.

So, @workswithseed neg-repped this statement.  What's your counterargument to what I said, counselor?

We are also reminded that people live in a fantasy world where banning AR-15s will stop mass murder. If it worked, sign me up, but evil will find a way.

If it makes us all feel better to do so, by all means stop production and sales of the AR-15, 3 year moratorium to register existing guns to a Federal Database and any other possession becomes a felony.

It wont stop anything but people will feel better about themselves. And politicians will make bumper stickers and hashtags.

You want to point me to all the mass killings in this country by suicide vests this year....because I can't think of any.

Your statement that he would have killed every one with a bomb or suicide vest is so misguided and willfully ignorant.

The reason these happen is because pissed off people have easy access to guns and especially high powered rifles.

Like it or not this country was founded with gun violence and we're never going to put that toothpaste back in the tube.

But to just say fuck it and throw up your hands is asinine at this point.  Yes there should be a ban on assault weapons and  rounds for those weapons. Stronger back ground checks, yes.

Will that solve everything, of course not, but if your standard is that you should be able to 100% eradicate a problem or if you can't then do nothing, then there is no sense of having any laws or standards or government at all.

No I don’t think it’s normal at all.  It’s terrible, evil, ignorant, immature, racist, but mainly just evil. It’s lots of things but certainly not normal.  But being mentally ill means more than lack of normalcy. Plenty of folks appear normal and are mentally ill. Plenty of folks are very abnormal and not mentally ill.  Maybe this guy  is mentally ill but the fact that he wanted to kill a bunch of Mexicans is not the deciding factor.

No one is talking about stopping murder,  we're just making it harder for them.  Instead of killing 19 people maybe they just kill 1 and maybe even that person survives.  Keep the weapons of mass destruction out of everyone's hands.

Since you asked, I didn't vote for any of them.  Trump didn't impress me, I didn't like Hillary's politics and Gary Johnson couldn't remember a thing when asked a serious question. A long time ago on another website the CR was hardcore conservative with only a few liberal posters sticking their nose out.  I venture over from time to time to see how the left is feeling about their current candidates.  I once engaged in a conversation about universal income, because it was a new concept to me, but when I asked about funding got crickets with an admitted $1T shortfall.  Sounds about right.

I love this lack of logic. You have no idea if he voted for Trump. I bet it feels better to get it out though. Not agreeing to your warped world view lockstep does not compute in your binary world. Your usual m.o. is to neg. I don’t want Trump re-elected. Will vote against him. As Bill Maher said on Friday night, Joe Biden is like non-dairy creamer. It works in a pinch. Need someone to calm shit down. Would rather have the libs win in 2020 to do it if that’s what it’d take.

Guys - this should continue getting discussed, but we have to keep the politics to a minimum. I'm going to start cleaning up this thread after this post with talk of parties/candidates/etc that can be for the CR thread. Policy discussion is welcome, just no partisan or politician bullshit.

If your post is edited or deleted it is not censorship, I'll move all posts to a CR thread. I have no interest in deterring discussion, but daily Texan isn't the board to talk politics even though this topic blurs some of those lines, I suggest proofreading your posts before just hitting send.

Also, I'm going to get much harsher on penalties related to calling for violence, this site won't be another fucking 8chan or whatever. I'll fucking ban everyone and burn it down before becoming a place where people can call for violence against others.

Serious question.

How can discussion of a politically motivated act of terrorism not result in the discussion getting political?

Expand

probably because instead of working on gun control, the real fucking problem, both sides make it a candidate/party issue and just cant wait until *inset tragic event to occur* to point fingers at the other side and say "your party is responsible for this".

Don't talk about parties or politicians. It's political, so please talk policy and your current observations about the world, but keep specific politicians and parties out of it.

Does this include the President?  because he’s kind of a central figure in this maniac’s manifesto.  Kinda hard to have an honest discussion about this with bringing up the elephant in the room.

I describe myself as right wing and avoid the conservative label since it has no meaning anymore. If Trump is mentioned in the manifesto specifically talking about his involvement, or response is appropriate - conjecture of whether or not he is inciting this action and others like it is not appropriate. That's what the Trump thread is for

Maybe if you know who didn't constantly demonize brown people on social media maybe people wouldn't feel like they had to drive 10 hours to El Paso to shoot a bunch of them at Walmart.

Is this how it is done?
